  • Our guest this episode is Whitfield Crane, singer for Ugly Kid Joe who has recently released a new full-length album titled Rad Wings of Destiny. I met Ugly Kid Joe (and Whit) on tour 10 years ago and became fast friends with all of the members of the band. This friendship eventually led to me doing some touring with the band over the summer of 2022 and I will continue performing with them for some UK dates in November 2022. Rad Wings of Destiny is a well-rounded rock album with strong riffs, clever lyrics and great hooks! I recommend checking it out and do catch the band live if you're able. Whitfield is one of the most criminally under celebrated front persons in rock music and the band is running hot! I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.

I've been a huge UKJ fan since their first album. What amazes me is how, unlike many (maybe most) other bands, their quality never decreases despite how much time has passed. Even's Whit's voice.

The new album, Rad Wings of Destiny is definitely some of their best work. Saw them in Pittsburgh last weekend. They played for every single one of their fans. Highly underrated. Must see.

I got the tremendous joy of introducing a friend to UKJ at the LA show. UKJ has always been that band for me that I get to show other people. Thanks for making me seem cool over the years!

I’m jealous of your friendship! I have been a die hard fan since their Ugly As They Wannabe days!

I saw UKJ the other night in Sibiu, Romania. It was super. Whit is a super cool guy, in all he does. It reminds me of that US I used to love back in the nineties.

Nobody mentioned "Not like the other". That is not just the song of the album, it's the song of the year.

Thank you for this interview, so relaxed and cool... This is the first time that I've seen Whitfield so inclined to confidences. It's rare that he opens up to this point on 2/3 details of his private life and feelings ! It shows what kind of guy you are and how much he trusts you! Thank you for this beautiful (and long!) moment of sharing and contact in all simplicity 😀 I loved it!!!

I smoked a joint with the singer from fishbone along the eel river. He was asking me what its like to live up in the redwood forest. Really nice guy. My brother smoked a joint with OZZY once! I'll always be jealous of that.

Mike you probably figured out that I do not like when bands do covers, but when UGJ came out and I hear their album tracks I thought there was a lot more to them than those copies hits. After listening to the EP and later material, I can see why they came back. I’m glad you got to tour with these guys.

Good stuff but it would have been cool to see him talk about Richards/Crane, Another Animal, Medication and that supposed solo record he was doing
