Keep your head up bro. I'm gonna give you a story my Dad gave me 25 years ago. He told me "Son keep your head up. B*tches are like buses there will be another one along in fifteen minutes. All you have to do is be patient and keep your eyes open so you don't miss the next one". At 40 years old I can tell you this is a fact. I recently shared this with my 18 year old son. Sure enough another bus came around and he picked it up. Keep your head up everything happens for a reason. It was likely for the best.

I’ve told my kids and I often remind them well into their thirties: You will find out who your true friend (maybe *two*) is by their display of loyalty and respect. They will be loyal to you regardless of the situation and respect your actions within that situation-and you will reciprocate without question. A true friend is a rarity. The rest are acquaintances, pals, buddies, associates.

Thought I had a group of buddies until my mother and brother went on hospice from cancer and died months later. When it was all fun and motorcycles it was great, but once things got tough, they never called me once and asked, how I was doing mentally as I was my mothers caregiver and watched her slip away day after day. It's hard to trust people when you get seriously let down like that. And one of them trash talked me to a guy I genuinely consider a friend.
Some people that you think are your closest friends can be the biggest snakes. Especially when they are jealous of you!

Covid showed me the reality of who the people around me really were. When I sold everything to get out of CA & bought land sight unseen, I was shown again who was not really "for" me but actually against me. It took me about a year to get over the hurt & betrayal, but I am 1000x better off without the dead weight.
I am not a bigger person. I will not accept people back, that used me, called me hateful names & turned into sheep. I get messages all the time now, apologizing & telling me I was right. I dont care. I wasnt trying to be right, I was being honest. I dont even respond. They are on their own.

I agree. Another point is that if you are the type of person who can't stand to be alone, you need to fix yourself. I had a friend who would jump into one bad marriage after another because he couldn't stand to be alone. Work hard to fix your own issues and be happy with yourself. The right woman will come along in due time.

I recall a bible teacher speaking about when you marry, you are to hate your parents. He was a scholar of the old languages and explained that the transliteration of the word "hate" acually meant "love less". Meaning your husband becomes the most important part. If your parents don't get that, its time to leave them behind. Good message. Thanks for that reminder.

Good talk! It hit home with me. I was in a position at work where a friend of many years was my boss. I respected his work ethic and was loyal. Over the past 3 years he changed, almost like he was bi- polar. I had several conversations with both him and upper management. He would be good for awhile, then would blow up and degrade people below him. I was kind of a buffer between him and other staff. It came to a head one day and I said enough. Talked to management and got moved to another location. I drive farther to work now, but the crew I work with now is stellar. What you say is so true, respect and loyalty go a long way. When it’s not given back, get out of that toxic environment. I was miserable. It was affecting my family. Now I’m happy and so are they.

Am this very moment texting with someone close to me who has someone very close to them who they depend on doing this to them - I'm telling them yet again, they don't need to put up with that in their life and it's no wonder they are struggling. YES it can destroy your life. Agree completely & you've expressed it beautifully.
Thank you for caring to cover this very needed topic.
Jack you saying if you could find 10 men like that, reminds me in the Old Testament of God asking Abraham to find Him 10 good men, if there were even that many left on the Earth at that time??
    And there weren't.

Very wise words! Sadly, there are far too many narcissists everywhere we encounter them. Be it family members or friends, or spouse, co workers, or people in general don’t know the true meaning of respect and loyalty. I lost a friend I’ve known for 15 years. When I cut her off, she literally tried to slander and dragged my name across social media with bunch of lies. She even spewed some of the most vile statements against me and said she to me to drop dead. It hurt but I had to do what I had to do. Cut her off permanently and forgive her. Let her go gone! She was never a true friend to begin with which is sad. People reveal their true colors through so many different ways that you would have never thought. I gave her a second chance before and that was the last straw for me. Second chance to me is just a myth. Loyalty and respect is earned. Well said Jack.

You are so correct Jack, I have drilled this in, within my kids, the ability to build a family is one of the most difficult tasks, I think it is equal to building a fort. The three questions of family bond, are 1. If you knew you only had 5 hours to live who would you want to spend the 5 hours with. 2. Does drugs an alcohol have a status or priority in this relationship? If so, your family is weak and VERY open to issues. 3. Would you sacrifice life or limb to make things right for the family? I am all over this one. I am not perfect, and have made some pretty bonehead moves, but straight up Jack you got this nailed down.

Now I have to friend's from back in the day. They are all that is left. Most are dead from drugs or gang banging. Some are doing well some on the homeless side of things because of drugs. Been married for 5 years but with my ole lady for 13 years. Respect an loyalty is everything towards the one's who deserve such a thing. So three people in my life an I'm 42 lol. Thank for the Advice, & I learned your message later in life. I disconnected myself from people who were destructed in my life, including Family Members. I would rather have no friends, than destructive people in my life. The friends I have today, are few but loyal & respectful & we all are working together for the same cause.

Honestly Jack my wife and kids are absolutely amazing. I don’t agree one hundred percent with absolutely everything my wife says or thinks. And the other way around. But we respect each other and we always have each others back. She is an absolutely amazing woman. We completely trust each other.

I had to learn this the hard way even though i knew it was going to happen, i did try tho after i had changed my mindset and finally grew up. Happily divorced with 4 children and taking one day at a time but i do realize from years of living more about myself that i reaped what i sowed but whats important is i learned from my mistakes and bad decisions like marrying a stripper......yeah i knew better but .....yeah, now i try to just take the Word of God seriously while working on my weaknesses and sin still tempting my flesh and thats about all im going to say in the comments
