    You never explained how you syced the global shutter with the flash duration of the 300 light? At full power what is the fastest shutter you can use - likewise at 1/4 - everything you did in this video is easily achieved with HSS - you were often in shadows and/or in doors. This really could have been on any system.

      Thanks for your feedback. I had to make the call on-location to significantly reduce the amount of technical information/demonstrations due to the extreme 100+ degree heat, and our models being exposed to the extreme mid-day sun in Bangkok. In addition, giving a matrix for flash duration setting at each power output and shutter speed was not my intention for the video. Hopefully Flashpoint will share a full matrix for us soon.

    I seen no advantage of having a global shutter on this shoot 🤷 all could have been done with normal ocf set up and any camera.

      Global Shutter is ideal in challenging light like this. I would have liked to show more samples of overpowering the sun, but like I mentioned previously, it was 100+ degrees and the models were overheating very quickly, so we left the direct sun at the temple pretty quickly. You can easily control mid-day ambient light with A9III using Global Shutter and a small 60W flash. Give it a try if you get a chance to visit Adorama ;)

      Not a great example buddy, how many pros do you know that only have a 60w strobe 🤷 and you had a 300w strobe with you.
      Seems like just a cheap advert for Sony. Shame it could have been an interesting tutorial if you had planned it all properly.

      @@derbs46 I know plenty of top flight pros that shoot with a 60W flash using global shutter to overpower the sun. Like I've said a few times now, I had to pivot the production plan on-location due to the overwhelming heat in Bangkok. It was my first time there and I wasn't willing to risk heat stroke to cover an extended technical playbook on flash timing settings in 100+ degree heat. It's actually way easier than you might think to demonstrate.

    I’d like to know about shutter speed and flash power rather than the inside color of your backpack.

      Generally speaking, you can use less flash power and have more control of your ambient light with Global Shutter. It's relatively simple with the exception of needing to find the correct flash timing setting at any given shutter speed and power output when using third party lights. Ideally I'd have a field guide for flash timing settings, but the guide would have to be based on a particular light, being that every light has different flash duration/power ratio. It can get over complicated pretty quickly, which is why I didn't focus on being overly technical for this video. It gets even easier though if you shoot with native Sony flash units. They calculate those settings for you at any shutter speed and power output.

    What is it about this shoot that benefits from the global shutter?

    • @RMalayeri
      @RMalayeri 3 місяці тому

      Greater ambient light control is the big advantage for flash with global shutter. You can get more power from your light without needing to use high speed sync.

      Thanks for the feedback. Gear and sponsors are what make shoots like this possible for full time professionals like me. I do this for a living and having sponsors is part of what makes it possible. I appreciate the feedback though, and will work on longer educational videos that dive deep into technical details moving forward.

    What type of global shutter power was shown in this video? In the examples given, any Sony camera will shoot exactly the same.

    Sigh...this is where practicality vs theory do not align.....if u shot subject with large aperture in day light where shutter speed might hit 1/8000 or more without HSS then we all agreed global shutter was used

    • @RMalayeri
      @RMalayeri 3 місяці тому

      You couldn't be more right! I had to decide between a long technical discussion or a quick overview due to the extreme heat. That was the practical decision due to the safety concerns for my talent.

    I dont get it - no advantage to high shutter speed here - maybe thats why none of the photos were provided with exposure settings...

    This video does not show how you benefit from the global shutter after spending the initial part of the video claiming the goodness and greatness of the global shutter mechanism. The video is more of your gear showcase rather. A letdown.

    Sony a9iii is full of it… they haven’t had a video yet since it’s been released to show how it’s beneficial… I can take those shots with my T6 and speedlites… the clients were in shade the entire video… no fast movement or anything smh…🤦 Sony know they are trying to hide the fact that either the sync doesn’t work properly or that it’s too difficult to nail the sync

    • @RMalayeri
      @RMalayeri 3 місяці тому

      That's not true at all. Unfortunately it's not very clear that I wasn't able to stand in 100+ degree heat for an extended period of time to go over all of the nitty gritty on how to overpower the sun. That wasn't my intention, but again, I wasn't going to risk heat stroke for my models and I intentionally put them in the shade for safety. We can consider a specific video on flash timing settings in mid-day sun if that's something you'd like to see. Thanks for your feedback.
