The second day I had them on I was walking into a store and a kid walked up to my car and pointed at my wheels and yelled to his parents "look how big they are!" and I knew I made the right choice lmao.

They look kinda similar but the spokes on the 98 Cobra wheels have a more aggressive bow to them and the spokes are slightly thinner than the 95 Cobra R wheels. As a Camaro guy, I like your style. Simple, quick and effective. I love that shade of blue. I've cut the springs on a lot of cars and never once had a problem. Great work overall!
it definitely looks way better. I can't wait to see what's next ... Mini-tub? And all the other suspension and engine upgrades! Hopefully the HOA stays semi quiet about your line of work.
Those were all the right things to do to start out. Nice job. I would have done the same. The cobra wheels are actually 1998 cobra wheels. They were a 1 year only wheel and I had them on my 98 cobra. So they are not the 95 cobra R wheel even though they look similar.
I heard somewhere where there is some kind of spacer for the rear wheels so that they're extended out. It's either that or get wider wheels and tires. The nice thing is that there are mods and upgrades that can be done that makes the car more modern looking. As long as one has the bucks to do all this. My hood has peeled after 21 years but it'll cost $1500 just to paint the hood. I can get the whole car painted for about $7k which will keep the paint matched.
Cut springs aren't always terrible. When you cut them, the spring rate increases... which is usually what you want with a lowered car so they don't bottom out quite so easily. Most of the problems come when people cut multiple coils out and use the stock shocks, leading to a really bouncy ride. With only one coil out, the stock dampers should be able to handle it pretty well.
I am so conflicted on these cars. I never minded the looks of them that much, but there's no question they aren't the most beautiful of all Mustangs. The chassis are a significant upgrade to the Fox body Mustangs, so that's a plus and they can be improved easily and significantly. The 2v engines...man, I don't know. You can get a significant power bump out of them but it isn't cheap. And they're never going to pull those high revs that are so much fun. They sure can sound great.
When cutting the springs, make sure you paint the part where you cut so it doesn’t rust. Especially seeing how it’s gonna be in the elements, it will rust pretty quickly and that’s not a part you want that to happen to
I have a 1999 GT that I've owned for 23 years now. It is my daily driver. I've done wheels and tires and had a paint job done put a cold air induction system, and Flowmaster on it. That's it. Five speed loves the car, but I agree that the stock stance is way too high. Few years ago I decided to put some lowered springs on it but soon after had to remove them because the steep angle of my driveway at my new house would not allow me to get in and out of the driveway.
As a fellow 03 mustang owner, something that changes the entire look of your car is to get rid of the honeycomb grill and make the horse emblem floating. If you are a DIYer, its free. If your not, the true mod cost around $90.
Doing the same thing with my 2001 V6. Working on a LS Turbo swap and shooting for around 600-700hp. 4L80e and all that jazz. I actually bought a real Saleen body kit (front bumper, rear bumper and decklid with spoiler) at the big show in Charlotte earlier this year for $400. It totally transformed the look of the car along with the 17x10.5 wheels in the back. :) Nice thing is I got the car so cheap I feel like I can go to town on it and not be worried about doing something majorly wrong. This way I can keep my Shelby safe of any more mods. LOL

I have one of those Lenox steel diamond coated cut off blades. In my experience. The best thing about it is the fact that it stays the same size for the life of the blade. Otherwise I believe they are more louder/ higher pitch then normal cut off blades and I believe are slower to cut. So definitely wear ear pro. And don't be in a hurry to finish the cut, let the diamonds do its job. Cutting the coils actually increases the spring rate, which is good! With less available travel, you need a little higher spring rate to keep from hitting the bump stops. The spring rate change is directly proportional to the coils-before divided by coils-after. Your inexpensive drop and wheel upgrade really look nice!
I was going to add this, and also, since the end he cut isn't flattened and tapered like the other end (at least the fronts anywway), and because he actually measured and didn't go for a slammed look, this really doesn't look like a terrible mod. Inexpensive, and maybe not ideal, but still way better than it could be.
Unpopular opinion but I actually like the stock height on these. I would not consider lowering them to be an example of "De-ricing" as you said, but actually an example of ricing. No hate though, it looks good lowered too, and the SVT wheels look much better than what it started with. Also looks much better with the stripe delete.
Those wheels may have a Ford part number cast into them, but they were only available to the general public through Ford Racing. The only cars they were ever put on from Ford was the Cobra R models. Never factory installed on any other year/model of Mustang. They’re basically Ford’s own Cobra R replica wheels.
got the same wheels on my black newedge, they were a highschool graduation preset from my old man. still have em rockin on the old black car today! i had deep dish in the back. really look great. i have 255 in the front 295 in back sits great
Looks SOOO much better.. now swap out those 99/00 headlights for some OEM blacked out 01-04s and it's all set. Also, those are 98 Cobra wheels and they are different than the 95 R style.. more curved and better looking IMO.. get some small spacers and call it a day to complete the look.
So my first vote for an engine was the 7.3 Godzilla. I still that that would be awesome, but I have an even cooler swap. Ford Barra engine. Less weight, big power, and unique.
I swapped my 98 cobra wheels with terminators but they look great on that new edge. Also the 95 cobra R wheels are different than those wheels. The spokes have different curvature.
@@LawrenceTolman they might still have a 10.5 rep 98 cobra wheel I'm not entirely sure but I definitely think the wheels you scored are an oem 98 cobra wheel which is way better than a rep wheel imo.
I would not have guessed that they were factory wheels. They look like the type of aftermarket wheels that was popular 10 - 15 years ago. But i like them on the car!
I just put 2015 oem gt wheels on my 2014 and it’s amazing. I put some eco boost wheels on my 03 back in the day and it also looked amazing. Oem wheels on the car from before or after the oem design somehow always looks rad. Although the fact you lowered the ride and it still looks like a truck off the line is a testament to how insane Ford is
I don't cut many springs anymore with how cheap they are. When I do cut them though I'll usually drill a couple holes in the perch and wire tie 90 and 180 from the spring tail as you usually won't have a flat coil to seat it on and helps with it not moving if the shock fully extends.
Just needs the front chin spoiler and some tint and it will look perfect and you'll love it more. Also going with 275's for the rear were the perfect fit I found when I had my New Edge.
I realize this is just opinion, but I think the black rims looked better than those stock stang rims. The lowered stance does help make the wheel wells look more filled in.
My favorite New Edge is the 1999/2000. They didn't have the taller bolted on hood scoop (I believe started in 2001). The spoiler was different (again, changed in 2001). I like the wheels so much, I want to get a set and put them on my 1986 GT.
If it's a daily car, just be careful with how low you make it, especially with big ass rear wheels (like me with my 17x10.5) because you will be smashing and bending your fender with your tires, and cut the tires up. I'm stock height and have no issues, but my buddy who has the same setup but is lowered slashed his first set of rear tires, he got his fenders rolled so it's no longer a clearance issue anymore, but something to keep in mind.
You want some wheel gap man, This is a muscle car, Not a tiguana special. 1 inch lower in the front is perfect, you don't even need to lower the back because a mustang or Camaro is supposed to be slightly higher in the back then the front. When you slam any 90s to 2000s Ford, Taurus, Mustang they look like a UFO from those old movies from the 50s.Just stupid
good choice on removing the decal. The wheels the drop everything. my 02 gt is stock height. I bought some Eibach pro-kit springs just for little drop, The sportline springs would be to low for the roads where I live. Beautiful mustang.
I’ve tried the diamond cutoff wheels and went back to a fiber wheel. Yes, the diamond wheels last a long time and don’t erode, but they also cut slow. In the end I felt the added wheel cost wasn’t worth it.
I have zero issues cutting springs. Long as their over done to have no bounce then it's nit an issue. Everybody does it. Even bug name shops on tv cut them
Those wheels are actually OEM 98 cobra wheels like you originally said. They are not the same style as a cobra R wheel. I have the 98 cobra wheels for my fox and love the look.
Purchased a 2004 for my son. Feel like I’m riding in a wagon. Purchased new tires but still an issue? Can you make some suggests? Changed front struts as while and rack and pinion.
I like blue but I think the Sonic Blue looks better. I thought about replacing the K member and installing a lowering kit but it seems like keeping track of where all the nuts and bolts go might be a challenge - not mention the cost. I plan on doing a coyote swap when the 2 V finally dies or when I win the lottery. I won't do a turbo or supercharger though.
Not sure if this would help you but I had a "sticker" stripe on my GT and I used a cheap heat gun from harbor freight. Just apply a little heat to the sticker and it peeled right up. Took several minutes but a lot less effort.
Thank you for saving this Stang…Azure blue is a great color. I hope you buried the wheels that were on it so nobody else could ever put them on a car again.
That color itself isn't bad. However, the shoddy application and lack of proper prep work leave a LOT to be desired. Gonna have to undo some major missteps to correct that paint job. However, get your plan going well enough the only time anyone will have to pick apart the paint will be in the pits and at the tree. Beyond that, all they'll see are your taillights.
TL it does look improved ,but i think it would look better a bit lower. What's the max you could cut safely out of the springs? and yes to the bigger rear tires too!
Those wheels are 1998 SVT Cobra wheels. Not what you're referring in the video as 1995 Cobra R. They're the most lightweight Factory wheels, lighter than 95 or 00 R wheels too. By the way you can put Brembo Cobra R big brake kit in those 17 wheels without any clearence issue. Non of the OEM wheel have this opportunity. Also those are the most hard to find SVT Cobra wheel (not including Cobra R wheels). So know the value of them.
Hey, so just started getting into cars and I've been wanting to buy an 04 GT as my first project car for a while now but not sure what a good mileage and price would be for one. Any thoughts and what should I look out for first when buying one of these?
I like to know what you use to remove the white stripes I thought you would have used and then you lowered your car I wish I could get my original springs put them back in
You should buy a 4.6 or 5.4 4v and with a turbo it will make a lot of power that’s what the terminators had and they make a lot of power when tuned right
I guess we just back up till we hear a crunch LMAO 🤣😂 Keep up the great work LT I love it. I being a rotary addict and builder am also into things that are different like yourself. 👍

Had those SVT wheels on my 98 Cobra. Replaced them with staggered set of 18" Bullits that came out awesome on the car. Perfect offset all around.
I just put 2015 oem gt wheels on my 2014 and it’s amazing. I put some eco boost wheels on my 03 back in the day and it also looked amazing. Oem wheels on the car from before or after the oem design somehow always looks rad. Although the fact you lowered the ride and it still looks like a truck off the line is a testament to how insane Ford is
Got to stick with a big block theme. Maybe a Cadillac 500. Bored and stroked with a compound procharger and remonted rear turbo setup.
315s are perfect for the sn95, I think their too wide for the new edge though
I will admit, your videos on the 8.1 Vortec make me want to swap one into an El Camino. Not the ones everyone thinks of, a 70’s or 80’s El Caminoz
You should do it!
Massive improvement. Those first black wheels were so gross. I'm not really a mustang guy, but I'd drive that
I realize this is just opinion, but I think the black rims looked better than those stock stang rims.
That does look better. I definitely would have cut 2 coils though, still plenty of wheel gap.
SpinTech mufflers sound GREAT on Fords. Just thinking that it might be a nice change ....
good choice on removing the decal. The wheels the drop everything. my 02 gt is stock height. I bought some Eibach pro-kit springs just for little drop, The sportline springs would be to low for the roads where I live. Beautiful mustang.
Try to get your hands on a 7.3 Godzilla engine, that would be awesome for this older mustang
Sharpie paint correction awesome I might done myself a time or three
if it works, it it wrong? lol
110% better looking car. Definitely improved the looks. 👍👍
Damn..... I feel very confident in that cut spring method now.
Those replicas in the rear would look perfect 👌
I’ve tried the diamond cutoff wheels and went back to a fiber wheel. Yes, the diamond wheels last a long time and don’t erode, but they also cut slow. In the end I felt the added wheel cost wasn’t worth it.
Made it respectable looking much better than it started when ya got it.
agreed! still not the best looking car on the planet, but a lot better than what we started with
I have zero issues cutting springs.
Clean low and oem is the way to go. Some bigger tires and rear wheel spacers would set that tiny lowering job off more.
Night & Day difference. Love the channel. Happy New Years! Triple
Not sure if this would help you but I had a "sticker" stripe on my GT and I used a cheap heat gun from harbor freight. Just apply a little heat to the sticker and it peeled right up. Took several minutes but a lot less effort.
I tried that on these, but they were so old and brittle they kept tearing into tiny pieces and you couldn’t get a good “peel” started
Go with 315’s in rear
Thank you for saving this Stang…Azure blue is a great color. I hope you buried the wheels that were on it so nobody else could ever put them on a car again.
Which blue is that considered? I had a majestic blue.. but it’s long gone now to that racetrack in the sky.
I have a 2000 lx V6 laser red, & a V8 1999 GT black now. But I like that blue a lot
this was a repaint in Azure blue, the 03 Mach 1 color
Awesome content. I think you went the right route on being independent. Cant wait to see whats next.
Mach 1 chin spoiler and grille insert are mandatory on New Edge Gt's.
Definitely looks better, I'm just not a fan of that body style. I prefer the 10-13 body style when it comes to modern mustangs. But it looks good.
Make that scoop functional if possible
Amazing what wheels and stance does for a Mustang
I love using the wheel eraser!
I would cut one more coil at all 4 corners tho.
Yeah, it could’ve gone a tad lower for sure
Hey, so just started getting into cars and I've been wanting to buy an 04 GT as my first project car for a while now but not sure what a good mileage and price would be for one. Any thoughts and what should I look out for first when buying one of these?
I put 2005 mustang gt rims on my 94 mustang. I put a 2 inch wheel spacer on the rear and 1/4 inch spacer for the front to get the flush look.
"The tires on this things, the guy told me, they're old..." My first thought was: "BUUUUURN-OUUUUUTS!!!!
I like to know what you use to remove the white stripes I thought you would have used and then you lowered your car I wish I could get my original springs put them back in
I firmly believe the New Edge has aged the best out of all of the late 90s pony car designs.
Is spacers a good idea to the back wheels
You should buy a 4.6 or 5.4 4v and with a turbo it will make a lot of power that’s what the terminators had and they make a lot of power when tuned right
My favorite body style. Love the color and the wheels as well.
What is that ring that came off with the wheel at 6:51? Looks like a centering ring but those wheels don't look like they require one.
I guess we just back up till we hear a crunch LMAO 🤣😂 Keep up the great work LT I love it. I being a rotary addict and builder am also into things that are different like yourself. 👍
