My theory is that these are all different events that occurred to him in various timelines of his life: he was a child to his parents, a friend in a group out partying, a boyfriend in a turbulent relationship, and then a husband with a beautiful family. Throughout, he felt like he never fit perfectly into any of these roles. In his journey of self-discovery, he encounters another human, Kim Minha, who is as lost as he is in the maze of societal roles and expectations. However, after they have a conversation on the couch, he realizes that it's not just him; this is the reality for most people, and life is never going to feel perfect. Cut to him being transported to these scenarios again, but now he is happy because knowing he is not alone in the journey makes him appreciate life and its imperfections more. In the end, it feels almost like an enlightenment where he is freed from the shackles of pursuing a perfect life and now understands the true meaning of living. You see him walking through the forbidden door with Kim Minha, both now happy and content.

Fr this is a short cinematic movie. The director is also the guy who directed the show "Beef" and one of the actors on it is in this mv as well as the actress from "Pachinko" which explains why the cinematography is so good. I had to listen to this song 3 times before it suddenly hit me that RM is actually singing not rapping I was too focused on the lyrics and trying to understand the video 😂
The more I listen to this song the more I love it. It's very mellow, artistic, and deep with a beautiful meaning as one would expect from Namjoon.
Apparently he already sang it at Suga's D-day concert months ago and I had no idea that this was the same song he was releasing today. There I was patiently waiting and thinking about how the song's gonna sound when he'd already spoilt it a long time ago 😅
You're right though he said it on Suchwita he doesn't care about the charts he's just making music that he really enjoys and feels.

With such a deep meaning and at the same time with such a pleasant atmosphere, a light vibe, one might say, of a weekend. Many may not have expected from RM just such a song, in this direction.. But for some reason I thought that there would be just such a performance in the genre of indie pop or jazz.. He is a genius! It’s so beautiful to reveal the topic of standards, opinions and the internal struggle of a person with these standards imposed by society… acceptance of oneself, one’s desires… and freedom from them, which makes it possible to live one’s own life with joy and happiness..
I could do this, in such a way style, only an amazing leader and a wonderful person - our Kim Namjoon. Best! 💜

I'm personally not an Army, but i personally really enjoyed this song and MV ! :D I think he did a pretty good job with the deep meaning behind this MV. (I also think that BTS is a pretty good and funny group, so whenever i have the chance to i'd like to try and learn about them, or maybe stan them! I think that would be a really good opportunity.)
Oh you're going to absolutely love them! Besides their incredible talents and versatile music covering all genres they really are the most genuine and nicest people ever. Not to mention that they're full-time comedians. I only became Army a year ago and I fell in love with everything about them instantly it's a whole different experience that you have to go through yourself. Maybe start with their carpool karaoke as a fun watch and go from there. You could also tell us your favorite genres so we could suggest you some songs if you want💜

You were spot on on your theory! Here's mine: I personally think think that chick is not a love interest but a symbolism. It's his resolve from his whatever issue on why he can't seem to be present and enjoy the moment (hence, Right Place, Wrong Person). He has to come to terms with whatever issue he has with himself in order to become the person that he's supposed to be. Notice how the chick appears to be lost too when she appeared and he notices her. He found her when he saw himself. He became comfortable with her. Notice the next time she appeared, he was in a good place having a good time. She appeared in the dark like your dark thoughts appearing even when you seem happy. He came up to her and the light changed. They finally opened the door and it wasn't just like any other door (life) but it's a door to the whole set which means once you acknowledge and work through your pain or issues, you can pretty much live any life you choose and be present with it.

I think you touched on something, no you were to reaching. Before Namjoon met the main girl, he was miserable. When she came into the picture he was happier and was able to embrace everyone. He was even able to open a door that was locked to him earlier. This is art. Art has its own interpretation. Indigo was a similar vibe, he created what he wanted and he said if it goes to the top so be it, Namjoon is doing him, and I am all here for it. For some reason I got “Fri(end)s” vibes. I don’t know. As usual, I love your reactions.
Doors have always had a lot of symbolism. The door with the three different colored circles could mean PAST, PRESENT and FUTURE . Triptych architecture in history has also had symbolisms for past, present and future or for harmony like life and death, man and woman, Yin and Yang, the moon and the sun with the middle piece being the connection, our enlightenment, a third eye, a doorway to inner happiness.
Also the different colors and lighting keep changing and I believe when they finally go through the door the three colors on the door are red, green and blue and I know RM has mentioned RGB before. He's also mentioned multiverses and reading The Midnight Library (many similarities to the MV).
Right Place, Wrong Person. It's conceptional. The place isn't wrong but he (we) might feel wrong. The conceptual understanding is that we need to find ourselves, our own happiness to feel right wherever we are.
The music director says RM and him shared a lot of stories and came upon a story about a man that was stuck in a house with his PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE.
U are right. This song is for him & for all d people that would enjoy it. Imagine releasing an almost 6min MV? The full audio is 6&1/2 min. Who else does that today? In a time where artists release 1.5-3min trendy and catchy song.. Here you got Namjoon prioritizing art and love for music more than anything else. Like fcvk the trendsetters, right? Timeless. I believe this is namjoon's genre. Song that isn't shocking, but a classic that you'd see urself listening for a very long time. And he said it during suchwita. Just an amazing person! That's bts, bts members, they are allowed to release whatevee music they like, the way they want to. 💜

I had the same journey through this song as you, Nigel. It didn’t grab me from the get go but as it moved on with the imagery the two arts - visual/musical - weaved together into such an art piece. It totally makes sense that this is like an “art gallery”. Agree about needing to watch it many times to explore the many roles… Watching with wen the end came, the phrase ”All the world’s a stage” came to mind…we are actors with all the roles we play…..

I agree I mean a 6min song is crazy, especially with how songs are become shorter and shorter. Like RM said during Suwitcha he wants songs that will be on a playlist for a long time (timeless) and not necessarily abt being #1 or topping charts.
I have the same thoughts with yours. I'm glad that I'm not alone😆 I think this song is about the searching for his true self. Once he find it, he can still being him while adjust in any situations, any realities. He can brings happiness to anyone around him without losing his own self. In this state of him, now he can go in his journey of searching for his purpose in life. This may be a long journey, but now he can walk this path securely because he already knew his true self that will always walk with him side by side.
And about the music itself, I really really really agree with you. Namjoon always created music of his own taste, his own visions. But I have a feeling that it is way moooore "Namjoon's signature" to this album.

If you know RMs work every mix tape and album is different from the last. He is continuously pushing boundaries. In way thats what is also happening in the mv. RM wanders around confused and unhappy through all these potential lives and expectations never being comfortable. We see this has been so since he was small. At some point he becomes more comfortable and accepting, in each scenario but still doesnt stay, he moves on finds himself and accompanies the woman out of the maze of societies expectations to find non of it's real. In the light he sees its all fake sets designed and created by someone else. There are several clues for ARMY buried within the MV. Pain Devine. During a conversation piece with Pharrell Williams they discussed judging lyrics by how painful they are to produce ...pain divine, devine inspiration?

I like that he is portraying himself as a grown ass man who will have girlfriends, a spouse, children, a whole life outside of the industry and he will have it regardless of outside circumstances or opinions. People better get used to it.

The "this doesn't seem like a song if he cares gets worldwide recognition" was also used for Wildflower and the rest of Indigo, and while I get what you mean, I'm tired of only Namjoon's music getting this comment. And going by what Namjoon said on one of his lives, he DOES care. He said he sees all the other members doing well and winning awards and it made him feel like he should do well too. This man has been talking about Grammys for years, let's not pretend he doesn't care about awards. He didn't win one award for Indigo, can you believe that? An album that everyone called "a masterpiece" didn't win any awards, all because the support just wasn't there in the numbers. So please, please, PLEASE, let's not rest on our laurels AGAIN and mollify ourselves with the excuse "well as long as Namjoon likes it, that's all that matters" - let's SHOW him how much WE love it and make this a global success.
