If a church puts limitation s on you, tells you what you can and cannot do, or say that you have to be recommended for certain activities etc. That is not a Church it is a cult. No one not even so called prophets have the right to judge.

@@Angelina-sn1pz No it would not. If you go to a church that does that, you need to run out of the doors . When Jesus died on the cross for are sins he ended the law. We will never be perfect people EVER!!!!!. But we also are not bound by any law or rules. There is one way to heaven, Its not eating or drinking certain foods or beverages. Its not wearing certain clothes ect... It is to give your heart to Jesus Christ. He is the only way. Nothing you do on this earth will get you to heaven.

Just came across this and it’s interesting in that I felt this way about some of my experiences in Catholic school in the 60’s. I remember being fearful of some of my teachers and told what I couldn’t watch on T.V. and the movies. Fortunately, my mother was like April’s and was more about kindness and common sense. Thank goodness for our mothers! 🥰

I think it’s really important you emphasized that they were generally really good people led astray. That’s wonderful that you don’t feel the hate towards them all that you love them and just recognize their current situation.

Brittany Nesbitt since love is not something you turn on and off with a switch. I can’t looks with hate upon the people I grew up with and love. All I can do is share what I know with them and gently encourage them to change. Hate is always the devils way. God loves them too. Just like the prodigal son those that are lost bring much joy to God when they come to Him regardless of where they have been.

27:30: Love and accept everyone - even homosexuals. The facts that this is preceived as an achievement suggests that the LDS church has a way to go with regard to love and tolerance.
I appreciate the honest and thoughtful video. I think you found a home in the LDS church because you fit into a mold of the acceptable member. But what happens to people who don't fit that mold? In my experience, they either spend a lifetime trying to change or they leave the church and are seperated from family and community.

I find it so interesting that your experience with FLDS seems to be quite positive. Did you not go to school or church with any of the children and families that were abused, poorly educated, etc like we see "escaping" FLDS? How did your family avoid any of the traditional stories we hear from ex-FLDS members in interviews, books, and court testimony?

My opinion is from having had enough experience with the people to know them personally and having the Holy Spirit help me know who and what was right. I have many wonderful friends that live there and frankly you can’t judge them all the same. It’s sad when they give their trust over to a man and follow him and don’t have a relationship with God himself. That relationship with God is how the Holy Spirit tells you how to feel about it. The world looks at them all as crazy weirdos because of what they hear on the news. I look at them as people that need love and guidance to establish their own relationship with The Holy Spirit so they can detect when they are being led astray. I can’t turn my back on them because they need love coming from outside their community to prove the rest of the world is not out to kill or hunt them. Which is what they have been taught by the Jeffs group. Last time I visited it is good to see how they are growing and learning to function.

Tessa Acree actually everyone thinks abuse was rampant because of what is in the books and on the news. The abuse is not the rule but the exception. There are thousands of families that did not have any abuse. Because they have been so shy of the outside world , what the outside world hears is what they think is the norm in all of the household. But it isn’t.

I have to say that I commend you that you don’t actually hate on people but you didn’t love all that went on. You stressed about how we’re to love our neighbor. It actually is not hard to believe that there are the crazy things out there that happen and you feel sad for people who just don’t know the truth or are fearful for anything. Your parents are so amazing. I’m sure it’s hard having family split like that. I go thru family disowning me and it doesn’t even have a single thing to do with the church. At all. I have been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for 48 years, and I have never once experienced anything like you are describing. I think you may be confused? I know that if you really wanted to know more about our religion, so that you would really understand what we are all about, you should pick up a Book of Mormon and read it, ponder about what you are reading and ask our Father in Heaven if these things are true, His spirit will bare witness to you that it is true. I know with all my heart and without a shadow of a doubt that it is true. It is another testament of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

April thank you so much for sharing and thank you for being so respectful to all the people you spoke of. Your Mum is truly a strong lady. I have watched you for years from the UK and literally had no idea. I suppose it’s like all religions. There are good groups who behave in what we’d consider a moral and correct way and those who become evangelical and fanatical and give others somewhat associated a bad name. It’s incredible that there is not more legal protection and support for those ‘trapped’ in that FLDS cult / church. God bless them all. There are charities like Holding Out Help who try and support those escaping but what a tough call for them.

What I don't understand, and I don't mean any offense by this, but I don't see how you could be so complacent in the LDS church given the shared history the churches have. I can see maybe because it's the closest to what you always knew and had a more comforting and loving feel, but I think I would be distrusting of all of it after discovering everything I'd been taught was based on someone else's lie /:

I believe it's because that's what makes lies effective. Take a truth and warp it to suit your needs. Politicians do it all the time. But the truth can still be there. Ultimately each person has to find what feels right for them. I rejected all organized religions and follow my own spiritual promptings. But I have seen some people completely turn their lives around because of the love and community they found at churches. Just depends on you.

I'll never forget talking with a woman years ago and she mentioned that she's one of 25 kids. I said, "Whoa! How'd that happen?" I expected her to say that a bunch of them were step-siblings or something. But she just matter-of-factly said, "polygamy." 😯 I asked more questions and she said that her mom married her dad and then her mom's sister married her dad as well and between the two wives there were 25 kids.
And I thought I came from a big family because my mom had 11 kids! Throw in half-siblings and steps and we're up to 20. That's crazy, even to me! No wonder my children don't want to do family history on my side... 🤣

I wish so much that this family and other Mormon families that are on this platform and are so popular would be open to the true Gospel. They seem so kind and loving yet under the hold of their wards and following a sad path of Mormonism in secret. I am not surprised April still is involved in Mormonism. Following Jesus isn’t shrouded in secrecy and it certainly isn’t based on what we do as followers. It’s everything that Jesus did for us and all we have to do is accept.

And to continue, pastors and priests aren’t prophets. Does God use them to lead and teach? Yes, but they aren’t given a special authority to tell their church people something that God wouldn’t tell them himself. We have Gods Word the Bible to show us how to live. If you have a relationship with Jesus, a “prophet” doesn’t tell you what God wants you to do. You seek God and He will tell you, He will lead you. Ugh, all of this is heartbreaking, for people who are so kind and loving, to be led so astray :(

    • @nizavalenzuela7352
      @nizavalenzuela7352 5 років тому +5

Smashing Roses We have a prophet to guide us in these latter days. We believe that he is inspired and receives revelation for the church of Jesus Christ, because it’s not the prophet’s church. We believe that he helps guide us especially with big changes that happens in today’s world. Though the prophet doesn’t tell us that we have to do something because it’s up to us to make that choice. Though like you said if we have a relationship with Jesus he will guide us and tell us what we need to do. That’s where personal revelation comes in, because the prophet can’t tell each family or person what they must do. We are all in charge of our own spiritual growth and we can ask for inspiration from our Heavenly Father to help guide us as individuals. Though you can’t just ask without putting in the effort to find the answer to your question. One has to pray and read the scriptures and act in faith. Also I’m so sorry for this long essay!! 😂

    • @ashleyrose8814

Niza Valenzuela my point is that your prophet isn’t a god or god-like. I believe he can lead and teach, but not have a superior authority. That’s the impression I’ve been given most times. I would say the same with the the Pope and priests in Catholic Churches.I do see we agree on faith and seeking Gods word the Bible in all cases. Just very curious about the secrecy and use of the Book of Mormon when we already have the Bible that we know is inspired from God directly. So many questions! Its all very interesting!

Smashing Roses that’s the thing we know and we don’t think that he is a god. We believe that he is inspired of god to help Jesus’s church. Though all the knowledge that we have of god and Jesus we have to get that on our own. And I also see the similarities in our faith especially with what’s in the Bible. And if you want to know more about the Book of Mormon and about it’s similarities to the Bible I would be happy to tell you and help you understand!! Just so you’re not confused we do believe in the Bible and the Book of Mormon does not replace it like many people think. We believe the Book of Mormon to be another testament of Jesus Christ!! I agree that everything is very interesting!! If you have any questions just let me know!!
I linked something that I thought you might want to watch!!

So, there were a lot of reasons I stayed with them at the time none of which had anything to do with me believing they were prophets. And Rulon did try to marry me off to someone who had several wives and I politely said I would pray about it and never spoke to him again. April’s dad is 6 years older than me and I did know him for a long time and I was not told I had to marry him I was given a choice. Most of the men that got multiple wives got them for sucking up to the so called prophet. I always felt creepy about Warren. Funny note both of Warrens wives he had at the time were converted by him when he went to the U of U. My father always told me that the things Satan has the most power over people with are 99% truth and 1% lie which makes it all a lie. Love you April. I knew too much about their lies to fall for it. I give God all the credit for the financial help they gave us because you should always thank God for everything He provides even if He sends the devil to deliver it.

Gramabair Hannah. I am so interested in your experience. Your family seems to have been a very different story compared to most in FLDS. Do you know why you and your daughters did not suffer the same fate as all the young women (and men too) that we see in court cases, documentaries and interviews? Do most under Jeffs just comply out of fear and you simply refused?

The gospel topic essays on the LDS church's official website do a great job of admitting and explaining that Joseph Smith had wives as young as 14 for anyone interested. Wives his first wife didn't know about, wives that were already married to other men etc... Warren Jeffs was basically the modern day Joseph Smith.

Over the last couple of months I've listened to 4 books written by 4 women (one of which was a daughter of Warren Jeffs) who were raised in the FLDS church and have now escaped. It's incredible what happens in that community. They all said the same thing about the people... that they are really good people. You mentioned your 5th grade teacher; it could have been Rebecca (Becky) Wall. She was married to Rulon Jeffs and began teaching right after she graduated. She wrote "The Witness Who Wore Red".

My grandmother grew up in a Baptist cult that was located in Arkansas. I’ve asked my mom about that cult sometimes (who did not grow up in the cult), and she said that her and her sisters lived in shacks, had nothing, and were brainwashed to no end. It honestly led her up to having some PTSD and she never stepped in a church again, and I honestly can’t blame her for that.

I’m not from a Mormon family. I grew up with very few Mormon’s around me at all. I went to a very controlling catholic school who used to teach that LGBTQ were just “attention seeking”. I remember the day I decided to research other religions. I was about 12 I looked into Mormonism and discovered the FLDS, looked and found similar situations in many other faiths also and it really made me want to work in human rights. It resonated with me. I no where near had the same childhood or anything quite like those growing up there my school wasn’t a cult. However I do understand how brainwashing can impact in your life they did control us quite closely with a lot of things. It’s very interesting to hear different peoples stories from situations like these. New motivations to continue helping others.

I spent time in a bizarre church with polygamist beliefs and yes they did indeed have their own school, my family had been homeschooled for years and we were looked down on even though my brother entered college right after age 16, they said good so as they could compare our education even though the school board did by law. They made us write many papers though. My sister and brother are having a difficult time due to their attitude on marriage...and my parents got divorced and we were told none of us can know true love but I know God's love.

I'm not sure why so many of us choose this path. But to suggest it's selling our children and that it isn't a legitimate job? That's just unfair and I wonder where that attitude comes from. So I know the concepts. Since the church split between the polygamist activists and the non. The fundamentalists went a different way with their faith and changed some of the ideas. Whole LDS has some different beliefs. The are basically the same. It’s mainly the polygamy that sets them apart

In the Beginning was the Word (Jesus) and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning! John 1:1
Jesus didnt work his way to God-hood, he was always God.
It is by GRACE you have been saved, through faith, and it's not of yourself it is a GIFT of God, NOT by works so that no one can boast.
You are saved by grace, without conditions, Grace is a Gift from God. The church says that you are saved by grace "after all you can do" Salvation becomes a You decision, not a gift freely given.

i understand why people are confused why she converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. A church that has the same foundation of the FLDS church. But just because someone starts their own church because the old one doesn’t support what isn’t right, and that person wants to continue doing that wrong thing. That doesn’t mean the leaders have the same intentions or two churches have the same teachings. I believe that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true because it uses both the bible and book of mormon, because of its teachings, the way it gives me comfort, and they way it’s completely centered on Christ. I respect everyone’s beliefs❤️ I just that it would be cool to share mine. Have an awesome day

This is so interesting and just crazy at the same time. I'm so glad your family got out of the FLDS.
