The lotus leaf wrapping is not meant to be eaten 😄 it’s just to shape the rice for steaming, similar to a tamale. Those Shanghai dumplings are supposed to be “soup dumplings” so they’re supposed to have a broth inside and be soft, but those did look a little underdone for sure.
I’ve been watching your videos for a decade now. And I really love how much you’ve grown! Kudos to you for trying new foods and being super polite and respectful. Nothing but mad respect for you Timmy!
Timmy that last dumpling (the Shanghai dumpling) resembles a Xiao long boa, which is traditionally a soup dumpling. It is comprised of pork and pork fat that has been solidified by freezing and then as it steams the fat melts with the seasoning to create a "soup" of sorts. In my opinion it looks exactly how it should, not undercooked. Just trying to release your stress about undercooked meats. Love what your doing 😘
I can't deal with fat at all either, you really don't need to apologize. Almost EVERYone has a taste/texture they can't handle. You tried so many new things here and you did an amazing job! 💜💜💜
Me knowing most of these foods contain mushrooms and seafood *sips tea/yum cha* jk xD Btw, I can't say 100% for sure, but I don't think the meat in the Shanghai Dumpling (xiao long bao) was raw. The meat is usually mixed with gelatinous broth before steaming so that there is soup broth within the meat and dumpling when eating. This gives it the mushy/juicy texture. Also, pork can sometimes remain slightly pink even after proper cooking. I have had many Shanghai Dumplings like this, mildly pink and mushy, and it's normal! Thanks for being an open and respectful queen to the food and culture though, much love Timmy!
The ground pork in green wrapping with fish roes on top is called Shumai. It is not the same as beef ball. Seems like they messed up your order more than just one item.
I kept yelling at the screen from the beginning (not at our beloved Timmy) THAT IS THE SHUMAI the whole time. LOL It is pork and shrimp filling with carrots on top (and most places put a little mushroom in it too).
I'm so late to this party, and many other comments have already said this, but that soup dumpling was not undercooked, but of course it's totally okay to not like the texture of it. I'm definitely impressed with your open-mindedness and willingness to try new foods, and how you don't let the ones you dislike affect your opinion on the other dishes. Based on your descriptions, it might not have been the best dim sum restaurant in your area. I think it could have been beneficial to have had a little more guidance as you haven't had any dim sum before.
This was so suspenseful! I kept waiting to see when the raw pork would pop up. I was all "Is it going to be in that spring roll?" while my fingers covered my eyes as you took a bite. This was a proper thriller movie!

Love you & your videos. I eat vicariously through you. Would enjoy seeing you try all the treats & tea you get in the Japanese boxes you show occasionally.
Timmy - your facial expressions, sniffing things, etc. had me rolling. The Lotus leaf is there to steam and flavor the rice mixture vs. eating it. Who would know that unless you are of the culture utilizing leaves for steaming food. I would liken it to when you eat Kalua Kalua pork at a luau - you don't eat the banana leaves the pork is roasted in. I love your videos and your adorable animated face !!!! Cheers !
Loved this video. You got the pork ribs timmy! They were in the clear kinda container. That's my fav. Also the pork looks like that, it's not undercooked. Thanks for giving it a whirl ❤

When you mentioned you didn't like eating globs of fat when you opened the steamed pork spareribs, that's when I knew you might not like chicken feet cuz (to me), that's all it is and it's just eating stuff for flavor. LOL. Personally, I don't like chicken feet because they're a pain in the ass to eat for what I should be getting out of it. The lotus leaf sticky rice, I just describe it as a "Chinese tamale". The wonderful thing about dim sum is that there are so many dishes, there's always something for everyone! The next time, you should get are the egg tarts and steamed custard buns as a dessert if you ever do a round 2 of dim sum. I get steamed beef balls all the time, they forgot those on your order. They're literally steamed meatballs semi-wrapped with bean curd on the bottom. They usually come with a little cup of black vinegar (for whatever reason, it tastes good with vinegar, probably cuts through the savoriness of it, I dunno why). "Bao" is the Chinese word for "bread" or "bun", so when you see that on a menu, you'll know it has something to do with that. I had a feeling you'd love the BBQ pork bun. Haha. Keep up the good work! This video was fun to watch.
My dad is southern. He would make lots of stuff for himself he knew we (us silly ass kids) wouldn't be open to. One of which was chicken feet. I think he would stew them in gravy over rice. You were a real trooper. Good job!

That lotus leaf is just used to steam it for the aroma but you’re not supposed to eat it LOL

Omfg the way you high-fived the foot 🤣 I'm so grossed out lmao
My dad is southern. He would make lots of stuff for himself he knew we (us silly ass kids) wouldn't be open to. One of which was chicken feet. I think he would stew them in gravy over rice. You were a real trooper. Good job!
