We are in PSR troubles because of 10 years of mismanagement by the glazers. Not sure how this is INEOS' fault? We're at where we're at. Spend wisely in the next couple of seasons and put ourselves in a position where a few big name signings get us to the next level like Arsenal, like Liverpool under Klopp, like Villa have done etc. No need for panic stations

Also, I'm not sure INEOS promised to make the changes Phil suggested 'right away'. Think they asked for patience and said it's going to be 3 years before competing?? The club is a mess, don't think people can complain about the extent the bad management of the last 10 years has had on the club but then expect someone to turn things round in one summer.
Am abit confused as to who Phil expects us to be singing when we have just finished 8th with FFP regulations up our ass. Also Haaland is bloody rapid and bar one slip Branthwaite played him really well.
We are in europe so 8th doesn't matter much here. Also we actually have more than we're letting on. Like we could have got a loan in January.

Wether he goes now or not doesn’t matter, it’s going to be all about fixing glazer mistakes and basically buying a new team so even if Dezerbie or Tuchel were here, they would just be rebuilding

Phil asking probing questions is not a negative. It's a podcast and it's interesting. Agree with his point on signings; we are stuck. Can't spend big on names but don't want to commit to a rebuild. A clear message and plan from INEOS would help. Branthwaite is a complete waste of funds at rumored figures and I'd argue at 50m, even. Drop it and move on

Would love to hear what signings Phil would make on a limited budget. Had Murtough not splashed money on Mount, who I still don’t know where he plays and Antony, there would be more money available. Zirkee and Fofana aren’t sexy names but they are pieces that can help the squad.

None of our Premier League rivals, to date have made a significant signing. Moreover United have messed up because of excessive past spending, and have had to settle the future of the manager. So of course things haven't happened yet or been publicised yet. The biggest test Ineos will have is the impatience of we fans. It's ludicrous to suggest that we need to be competing with Real Madrid's signings. We need to get people out, get promising players in and rebuild over a couple of years. It's annoying, because we're constantly in this position, but there it is.

Branthwaite is poor at ball playing. United need someone good at feet. Branthwaite is a physical monster good box defender but on the ball moments Is crucial for modern cb and he lacking it very much. We saw how our defense balance when Martinez came because he carry the ball .while magure and lindelof also good box defender but they struggle to carry the ball and we suffered to play from back. So ball playing is very much needed in today's modern football

On the one hand, it is expected of ETH to be honest. But if a player who is one of the highest earners, cannot take criticism from his boss - stating a known fact, then no point of being a professional.
I know people have joked about this, and it may just be that he's Dutch, but it seems clear to me (having a 'neurodivergent' son) that ETH is on the autism spectrum. His answer on Rashford was obvious - he's played badly, like Grealish, so he wasn't picked. Yes, it wasn't diplomatic but ETH isn't.
Phil is insufferable, just waffles absolute nonsense. What the hell does he expect we've got issues with PSR and so many issues in the squad but he wants us just go out and buy world class players in every position. Even if we had the money these players don't want to be playing Europa league.
Phil, the club is broke. Where is all the money coming from for all these top level transfers you speak of? They’re not an attractive proposition for top players in any case, not at the moment. On top of that, the club is an absolute mess internally. Laurie Whitwell’s recent article makes that abundantly clear. INEOS have barely started. It will take years to turn the club round and return it to where it needs to be. Patience.
Very poor by INEOS to not have simultaneous conversations about ETH extension while going through the evaluation process. You need to know all factors to make an informed decision. They've killed their negotiating power with ETH and he's letting them have it. Fair play. That's business, as I'm sure INEOS would say

The issue is that they need to remove ETH's veto, they also want to make it easier to remove him with harder KPI's, in order to do that they need him to agree to a new adjusted contract, otherwise they simply could have extended his contract. ETH still has one year left, he knows they cant afford to sack him, so he has no reason to sign a new contract, lose his Veto and make it easier to be sacked unless the contract is at least three years and much more money.
I expect an average season at best and I am OK with it. Hopefully our tactics will reflect the players we will have. I won't judge the transfers until they have all been made.The Glazers screwed us once again by delaying the sale and the consequences are that the new structure will not really be in place until this fall. I support what Ratcliffe is trying to do; he has put in money and hired experts but it will take time to get things really going.
James literally said himself that he thinks the start of the ineos reign won't be smooth sailing and that has turned out to be the case. Man United is a big job and there will be teething issues. I don't think that ineos is perfect but they need the time.

It’s okay saying we need world class players we do but you have to be realistic at who will sign for us in the current position also with us reducing the wage bill as we should, unfortunately currently United are not every top players first choice until we are smart progression is required from the club on all fronts.

In order to make united a consistent team again we most build a foundation and a culture. Ten Hagg has done well with progressing the team in terms of culture. Each of these qualities in a top team takes time to build. Essentially a foundation takes more time than building a culture. As it takes multiple windows of failures and success. Im sorry i really do like phil but u do not build a foundation on world class players. U create a tenchically solid team across the front and back. Once that is done then u add players that transform the team.
Exactly. Increments. If Ineos get this summer right they can recruit and bin out the rubbish players over the next 3 transfer windows. It cannot be done over a summer UNLESS the fanbase is ok with another year of dross until the team clicks. That's the reality of our situation. We can moan that it will take a few more seasons but look at the teams that appointed the contes and mourinhos of the world. They get a couple trophies and it burns down after 2 seasons because they force everything out of that team, it cannot perform at that level for more than a couple of years. Or you build slowly and accept that you will have a few mediocre seasons until the manager makes all the mistakes he needs to learn the job and the team gels. Then it's about fine-tuning. We jumped the gun with van Gaal, he needed more time to set a standard, he's doing more or less what ETH is trying to do now. Mourinho bought for thw moment, older players he could really do battle with, which is why he loved tall players, then OGS poor SOB didn't know what he was building but it wasn't a team. Yes they did ok during lockdown but I remember he said he wanted to play out from the back them bought AWB and then he 'needed more legs in the midfiel'(he was painful to listen to). Our strategy was beyonf scattergun, and with 6 signings eth is supposed to have fixed all this in 2 seasons with no winter window and now no money? Even if the antony and mount fees were still with us they's only be 3 players max. That's not exactly transformative plus klopp and pep have PLENTY of misses. Now eth isn't in charge he can focus on coaching and ineos can bring their intellect and experience to bear.
The narrative that Ten Hag wants to be involved in recruitment has never been substantiated with any evidence.
The fact remains, the monst successful team Ten Hag has ever built, was at Ajax, wjere he was a coach with next to no input into signings, sales etc. It worked. So this narrative needs to stop, and needs to stop being pushed as a reason why ETH was getting pushed out the door. To be honest, there again has been nothing of substance put forward that Ineos had made their mind up, and anyone credible said Tuchel, our #1 target to replace ETH, did not pass the recruitment process, at a very early stage. It seems Ineos decided they wanted to keep Ten Hag on, very much of their own violition.

As much as I enjoy this podcast and the lads involved, I will not be tuning in next season to listen to Phil whinge because United aren't meeting his ridiculous expectations already. It took 10 years for the Glazers to drag United down to this level, it will take more than one transfer to see real meaningful progress. We don't even have the Head of Recruitment who is supposed to find these world class players Phil wants. If you have this little patience then you will just be miserable.
If I was Ineos, when considering what has happened re the manager, I wouldn't give ETH a new contract now.

He was as close to ninth as he was to 4th. He was 3 points off 6th. You need to chill because although the table doesn't lie it can look worse than it is. The great klopp finished 5th with 6 more points than eth had this season last season. This is 7 years into the Klopp project. Get some perspective. Just saying We're Man United over and over won't make us buy better players. Maybe the standards police can take a holiday so eth can build a squad that is balanced.

@@keithdesira9294 I think they think that if he doesn't have that extension the squas will continue to question him and his methods and will not commit fully. They've downed tools before. Not saying it's the right move but I think they want continuity. Remember when Ratclifde said Arsenal were patient with Arteta? I think they want someone medium to long term to help get the important parts of the project going: proper academy integration into the first team, discipline and a stronger mentality. That cannot happen if they think can undermine the coach and he'll just get the sack until the next one figures it out. The problem isn't about contracts and all that, they can write them so they ARE performance based. The issue is Ineos have looked into why eth failes last season and realized even though eth probably did make some mistakes he was simply reacting to a club in disarray. It's easg to look at the table and goal difference and simply throw your hands up and say he's a bald fraud. Clearly though Ineos did their research and realized eth's brain didn't fall out of his head or he forgot how to coach ball. Clearly they realized there were bigger forces at work that THEY could solve so he could do his job. Eth has really impressed me with how he's carried himself this season. I think he has the right footballing intellect, class and perfect temperment to be United manager. Tuchel would've been a disaster. He brought dier to bayern, he wanted to bring in rudiger to United, another guy on big money getting close to 30. Basically their worst nightmare. Hate him or love him we should get behind him as United fans. There really aren't a lot of top managers available out there right now.

The major transformative signings may not be this summer unfortunately. Our current level along with PSR restrictions would make it impossible to bring that type of player in and address all positions needed. I think selling players that don't fit the profile INEOs want and raising the floor level of the squad with players that can is first step. Hopefully next summer then we could go for players such as Neves who can really take us forward and to the next level. It's a 3 year plan, we need to be patient

I totally agree with you both about getting the right types of players in, but looking at the issues we have in regards to signings WHO do you both want us to get in that will improve the team, but also not cause issue with FFP, wages, etc etc.

Realistically it should be Rashford. The who £35m available, limited by PSR nonsense has been debunked by several football accountants/ financial experts.
Regardless, to help a reset there needs to be 1 or 2 big sacrificial lambs. Rashford and Casemiro should be sold. Rashford is pure profit. If you get £65 - 70m for him, 30-35 for Casemiro and move Sancho and Greenwood on, you're in a good spot. I don't have faith more than 2 of those mentioned get moved on.
@@Boylo2492 Agree with most of this but I'm not sure we are getting anything close to that for Casemiro. We might have to cut our losses completely if it's not Saudi. No one is paying his wages. Certainly not MLS and what Euro team wants him that he'd move to?
