Your diesels are never boring. I started watching your channel many years ago at uni when I was model railwayless. Two years ago I was employed to run and maintain a large model railway in the South West and decided for practical purposes and from inspiration from your channel to re set it in the 1980's. It pained me when you took out the original layout, but best of luck with you're new layout. Most exciting times!
Super start! That’s how we (of a certain age) rocked! The 60s were a thousand times more exciting than the millennium! “Hey there, Georgie Girl” being a huge hit! Anyroad, we moved with the times and here we are watching someone else in another part of the Country (and World) doing the thing that brings us together - hobbies. Carry on, some of us will be leaving it all behind soon! Cheers, enjoy.
Wow, I was amazed when the steamer showed up and the music came on! I kind of got mesmerized and I didn't even notice the black and white until you brought it all to a screeching halt! Holy smokes! What was I even thinking?!!! I reckon I wasn't thinking! I should have known better! Lol! The storage is great though! Cheers, Dan
Just a thought can we see a video of a trains full lap around the layout and though the fiddle yard I think a lot of us would like to see where the trains go after the scenery section.
Just caught myself chuckling like an idiot at the start of this! Great to start see your videos appearing on UA-cam again. Can't wait to see the scenery updates.
Georgy Girl nice touch. Being Australian and a child of the sixties. I remember the Seekers song Georgie Girl from the Michael Caine film of the same name.
The film you are referring to is the 1966 movie starring Lyn Redgrave, based on the novel by Margaret Forster and was directed by Silvio Narizzano. Not Michael Caine - unless he directed the more recent re-make.
Better late than never - was just revisiting this vid and decided to read comments. My first reaction was also Michael Caine. So to prove me right, I looked up on IMDB. Wrong! Michael Caine was in "Alfie," also released in 1966. Time flies, takes memory with it.
There is something very satisfying about storage, especially modular storage systems - appeals to my OCD! Great videography at the beginning as well - those shots of the Black 5 pulling those Mk1s around that sweeping curve, and tracking shots, were really impressive.
Superb video, really enjoyed the trip down memory lane for a bit of good ol' nostalgia! Really like your workbench overhaul, has given me plenty to think about!!
It's a lovely system and well worth the extra few pennies. I've been using it for a few months now, as my update video from last week mentioned. Just as well I didn't release my video on building it this week too, else it'd have been me, you and Charlie all doing videos on the same thing in less than 7 days! Lol 😜
The diesel running is not boring but seeing steam run on your layout looks amazing. Really was able to see the smooth curves and super elevation in good effect. Great work, Clint
Loved the steam running even the black and white and the music. Hattons will be pleased I'm sure the storage units will be flying off the shelves after that review. Good video Richard. ......David.
Hey, it went black and white, and I just immediately went to John, Paul, George, and Ringo in "Hard Day's Night." ""Hey, Mister, can we have our ball back." "Don't take that tone with me, I fought the war for your sort..." "I bet you're sorry you won."
Hi Richard you could put a small screw through the top above each side of the draws obviously starting at the bottom first that will stop them coming out putting the screws through each side will stop you catching your hands getting things out. Kind regards Sean
Beautiful Richard. Love seeing a steam train.....Most of my layout will be running diesels but will have the occasional steam train running on my for nostalgia. keep up the great work
So refreshing seeing a steam engine running around your track. With the storage system, I suppose you could go at least one level higher giving you much more capacity.
Wow, Hobby Zone is getting aggressive. They also had Charlie at "Chadwick" do a video on them. They are quite nice for what they do and look very professional. Thanks for the look at the fuller range of product. As always, great video, and I will recover from the shock of seeing steam on your tracks! :)
Great video the steam loco going round the curves on the lean looked very impressive and real, it just shows you building those curves up on one side does. I am also impressed with the storage system looks good and give you lots of storage I may be getting some of them. Regards. George..
The only thing I'd be concerned about is the fact that I've got several paints of the same colour, and I'd prefer a rack style system so I could see how much of a particular colour I had at any one time, and, then on the next visit to the hobby shop, restock appropriately. Does look really nice though, hopefully an Australian stockists gets on board with this as postage, and import taxes can push the price up quite significantly for us here in the colonies.
Thank you for running the steam engine , I really enjoyed that. I have two suggestions for improvements. 1 I think it would have looked better on the outer flat track and 2 a red led at the fire box to simulate a fireman shovelling coal would be great.
The storage system looks really very smart indeed. At an absolute guess, they left the stop off so folks like me can remove the drawers entirely when rummaging - I concede that they could have put them in the box and left it up to the end user though. As always, thanks for a cracking video.
Clever old Hattons marketing ah giving a few of you lads on UA-cam this storage system to show us lot! ‘Speculate to accumulate’ as we’d say in advertising!
Very good, informative as ever and well worth watching. I would add a light to the workbench with inbuilt magnifier, but I guess your vision hasn't gone the way of mine.
just a idea for you, put something under those organisers, like a kick board because it wont take you long to load up your bench with junk and then wont be able to slide out the bottom draws without things in the way.
I recommend looking at some of the videos on Adam Savage's tool storage stands and such, might be good just to put some tool racks on the back or side of the bench where they're easy to grab but don't get in the way of the flat bench area.
Seems to me that putting one’s with stuff you need near the layout on the top would allow you to take one or two and put them on a trolley where you are working. Also, small rubber feet or pads on the bottom would help when using the boxes “in the wild”. Easy enough to drill a small relief on the top of the boxes corresponding to where the feet are mounted to let the boxes stack flush and it would increase the interlocking of the stack as well. I’m not a fan of raw MDF due to its desire to soak up any spills. I would probably spray the lot before white before assembly. White inside boxes helps with visibility in the boxes. I agree that a draw stop would help. Often you can slightly round the back bottom side of such drawers so that gravity and draw sag keeps them in when they are against the stop but lifting the front of the draw will allow removal. Thanks for the review it has given me plenty of ideas. I’m unlikely to buy them as MDF is weighty and postage to Australia on top means adapt and adopt for me.
Very impressive Richard sent from Hattons to review, ideal system in kit form and set up for all the bits that amount up over time. Neat and tidy all in one place A steam engine at long last, with Judith Drummer singing " George Girl".Ideal for its time.mid 60's.In black and white just added to the affect. When steam was on its way out from 1962/3 by the Beeching cuts.May i suggest a mixed running session with stream as well, once and a while.I liked the banking on the curves, really sets it off.Was the kettle on ? So you had a nice cupper after doing this video ?? Always make a point of watching your process on the new layout.Since you pulled the other one down.Downloaded every one from your last build, always refer to sections of it.i.e coach lighting for one.To conclude well done just brilliant once again. Carol
Nice to see the Standard out and about again. Was a while last time we saw it. If only I actually had room for a work bench, I use my PC desk currently which is very annoying XD Those drawers look fantastic, I think when I move out I will get some of those and make a proper work bench.
You might want to consider moving the drawers up away from the desktop and using shelves on the bottom. Pulling the drawers open will reduce your workspace by the length of the drawer. You dont want to have to move a delicate model just to open a drawer.
Anon You beat me to it. Either the long thin drawers, so only one is blocked by the workspace, or as you say, shelves. Perhaps even a stand-off, so no usable space, but no fouling at all. For the paint racks, can you read the labels in the rack? I also wonder about frequency of use (at the workbench). How often do you use track-laying gear at the workbench? Or decoders? Seems like this needs to have the immediate workbench tools to hand. But I like the storage. In terms of bang-per-buck, less than 3 gbp per drawer is good for larger (stock storage), and the fussy ones depend on what you’re trying to fit in. Thanks for the demo.
He he, and now we have comedy too! Those storage units look pretty good. My work bench looks just like yours did, and as for dumping stuff on the layout where I'm working, er guilty as charged 😂.
How did you get the steam engine volume to be loud enough, I am wondering if you tweeked the manufacturer's speakers or was it dubbed onto the film or was it played through speakers under the layout as it sounded very impressive? I love the cynicism
Nice modular storage. I was about to chip in that Ikea have been making these for years, and you don't need to build them yourself, and then you wheeled out the corner ones! ;-)
beautiful! the only reason i wasnt a huge fan of this channel is because im not a fan of diesels, i really like steam engines. that train looks beautiful with the coaches and looks great running on that track. *clap*
Loads of comments about the steam loco and music Richard, looks as if you have struck a chord there :-) I saw the storage boxes when they first came out and wasn't convinced, but seeing your use for them, I'm hooked.
Given storage space, buys more accessories.... Put some talc in the drawers, stops them squeaking. Love having a bonus video, now I'm off to build some boxes!!!
You could probably make/purchase a name plate for the steam loco and dress it up so it could be some heritage/preserved locomotive that pops up every now and again on excursion
If I sent you a locomotive would you include it in one of your running sessions, it would be the current flying Scotsman, I think in 2019 it said it would be passing through Everard Junction on one of its runs.
Nice video and a great product. As always, when trying to get my hands on products like this (or anything else) the cost of postage will double the cost of the product. Re your suggestion about the stop blocks in the drawers, I would suggest that its not worth the effort because sometimes it may be best to remove the drawer to access the content in which case the stop would be required to be retractable. More engineering = greater cost. As you say, if you want drawer stops you can add them yourself, if you think it is worth the effort.
Amazing! Love seeing steam on Everard Junction! Hope there will be more of it in the future, although you’d have my Mum singing along with ‘Georgie Girl’. While I know you have lots of modern BR blue in the stable, is there more of the older stuff about too?
Hi Richard. Nice to see the steam loco!. On the subject of the Hobbyzone work bench, afraid Charlie@ Chadwick beat you to it. Hattons apparently asked him to do a build and review as well. Wonder if I could ask for one?.
They do look good, and if they come from Hattons are guaranteed to be good quality. However the whole reason for your new layout is MDF when it gets damp. IKEA do a very similar thing made from 6mm ply. Which is going to free of the famous MDF curves.
I appreciate your demonstration of how gravity acts on items in the absence of a baseboard.
Two videos a week. I could get used to this.
Exactly, this is almost too good to be true ;-)
Super start! That’s how we (of a certain age) rocked! The 60s were a thousand times more exciting than the millennium! “Hey there, Georgie Girl” being a huge hit! Anyroad, we moved with the times and here we are watching someone else in another part of the Country (and World) doing the thing that brings us together - hobbies. I really love how you bank the corners.... a small touch, but it adds O so much detail.....
Just a thought can we see a video of a trains full lap around the layout and though the fiddle yard I think a lot of us would like to see where the trains go after the scenery section.
Great idea Peter
That last shot was absolutely beautiful, the 47 looks amazing with that rake!
I’d love to see the storage solutions primed and sprayed in your favourite livery.
The steam action was a nice surprise. Great storage units might look at getting some for my self
I don't think enough has been made of how good that focus pull was at 00:36. That was real nice.
Just caught myself chuckling like an idiot at the start of this! Great to start see your videos appearing on UA-cam again. Can't wait to see the scenery updates.

And how wonderful that kettle looks on Everard Junction rails!
nothing like filling up new storage.
looks great.
I spent the ENTIRE video waitng for you to open that tall corner draw, it was painful. Love the vids and love the amount of content you put in em!
Wow! A new video 2 days apart! Love it. Loved the appearance of the steam loco too.
Chadwick reviewed the exact same units a week ago. They do look, as you say, very professional. Nice job. :)
It's a lovely system and well worth the extra few pennies. I've been using it for a few months now, as my update video from last week mentioned. Just as well I didn't release my video on building it this week too, else it'd have been me, you and Charlie all doing videos on the same thing in less than 7 days! Lol 😜
Been thinking about getting these since they became available on Hatton’s website. I think I’m sold now! Great review!
God Mr Junction, its killing me waiting for your next Video. You are the reason why i have got into model railways.
The diesel running is not boring but seeing steam run on your layout looks amazing. Really was able to see the smooth curves and super elevation in good effect. Great work, Clint
One of the fun part of a Hobby is getting all that stuff you Have to Have !!
You're really spoiling us with all these videos lately!
Nice camera work. The long zoom shot works well in the steam sequence. Loved the humour too, had a chuckle 😁.
Loved the steam running even the black and white and the music. Hattons will be pleased I'm sure the storage units will be flying off the shelves after that review. Good video Richard. ......David.
TWO thumbs up for running the good old steamer!
Love the kettle at the beginning Richard 👍🏻 Neat job the tidy boxes 😀
When I said put the kettle on..... ;-)
LOL
*Claps*
Neat organizers. Awesome runbys too. Have a great weekend. - Drew
Hey! Some of us danced to "Georgia Girl" in our youth. It's not that old. Lol
Georgie girl!
Hey, it went black and white, and I just immediately went to John, Paul, George, and Ringo in "Hard Day's Night." ""Hey, Mister, can we have our ball back." "Don't take that tone with me, I fought the war for your sort..." "I bet you're sorry you won."
It's older than I am, and I'm in my 50s LOL
Although, I do like the Seekers.
Its from before the end of the steam (and before I was born)...
Only two things missing for me Richard, a driver and a fireman!!
I liked the Black Five? Music was great. I am the same as you on storage, untidy. A nice design by Hobby Zone, and practical. What was the cost?
Beautiful loco, great running shots. The fade to b/w fit the scene perfectly, as did "Georgie Girl" (even though it was a bit before my time as well).
I started to sing along ... I'm getting old.
love your videos :))
Great video I’m currently binge watching to catch up as been busy building a koi pond and stripping my layout read to move house
Thank you Richard for another lovely video! Hahahah regarding the music; yes you can't beat that 80's vibe... Cheers, Joachim
Actually good to see as the pictures on Hattons show them all closed and that double draw set is really nice with the dividers. Also, more steam :)
Thank you for the demonstrating the floors of the open frame technique
It doesn't have floors. It does have flaws, though.
Nice all around. I'd love to see a small review of your container train. That's something I've not seen you dabble with before!
I fully expected to see Thomas the Tank Engine show up as a joke. Thank you for resisting the temptation. The workbench looks great.
Bonus video! You're spoiling us!
Nice storage, my Mrs would love it for her art stuff. Remember the variation on Parkinsons Law, "Stuff accumulates to fill the space available".
Can u do a video on storage and how to store items how to organise and label so can find things form track to pins trains to bushes
Amazing
Georgie girl was a nice touch 👍
I didn't expect to see you again in Just two days
Twice in one week , great video as always and I’ve ordered some
Great video the steam loco going round the curves on the lean looked very impressive and real, it just shows you building those curves up on one side does. I am also impressed with the storage system looks good and give you lots of storage I may be getting some of them. Regards. George..
Glad you were able to run a steam engine properly with a good sized train without it getting stuck on helixes :)
BNA models in Victoria stock them.
Thank you for running the steam engine , I really enjoyed that. I have two suggestions for improvements. 1 I think it would have looked better on the outer flat track and 2 a red led at the fire box to simulate a fireman shovelling coal would be great.

So, planning on painting the 5MT TOPS Blue to blend in better? Would look lovely! XD
Very good, informative as ever and well worth watching. I would add a light to the workbench with inbuilt magnifier, but I guess your vision hasn't gone the way of mine.

I was really surprised to find that this system is available in the states. And it is reasonably priced.

Black and white steam show. Yes. Fantastic footage too. Enjoy the day. Ray L

Bell Lines container is a very impressive period detail.

looked great on the super elevation.
He he, and now we have comedy too! Those storage units look pretty good. My work bench looks just like yours did, and as for dumping stuff on the layout where I'm working, er guilty as charged 😂.
You could always put scenic wallpaper on the back side to disguise your workbench!
Very tidy idea that, looks very neat
Diesel Trains are my favourite 👍🏻😋

beautiful! the only reason i wasnt a huge fan of this channel is because im not a fan of diesels, i really like steam engines. that train looks beautiful with the coaches and looks great running on that track. *clap*
What was the name of the steam train music? It sounded very familiar!
Great video - esp. the B&W nostalgic segment!!
Hi there, Iwas watching the video about automatic signalling which I think is great, Can you let me know what the part numbers are from Rapid.
Loads of comments about the steam loco and music Richard, looks as if you have struck a chord there :-) I saw the storage boxes when they first came out and wasn't convinced, but seeing your use for them, I'm hooked.
Gracious me. Tidy work bench, Georgie Girl and steam. Am I in the right place lol? I do like the storage boxes..might well go for some. Cheers, Bob
Given storage space, buys more accessories....
Put some talc in the drawers, stops them squeaking.

Dont you worry yourself about nostalgia Richard, it was great.
Curious to hear how your loft temperature has been in this colder weather ?
Amazing! Love seeing steam on Everard Junction! Hope there will be more of it in the future, although you’d have my Mum singing along with ‘Georgie Girl’. While I know you have lots of modern BR blue in the stable, is there more of the older stuff about too?

Very nice - looks great !
Man you have to keep us steam loves happy lol. A Heritage run every now and then would be cool along with a class 37 backing it up.
Now all we need is a Deltic and we're set!
What corner paint rack holds the Tamiya acrylics?
They do look good, and if they come from Hattons are guaranteed to be good quality. However the whole reason for your new layout is MDF when it gets damp. IKEA do a very similar thing made from 6mm ply. Which is going to free of the famous MDF curves.
Great video the road and the way the buildings look is great
Always great to see a steam engine
