1985-1989 were the best. But people make too much of these two. They were great even if their round-robin relationship got maddening at times, but there was massive high drama between ALL the residents. Sue and Ali's relationship with each other was no less fraught or addictive, and their break-up showdown involving Ali's brother and wife via Donna was WAY more explosive than the divorce paper 1986 walkout. AND it involved the brilliant throwing of a chair in the cafe-why no one goes on about that?! And then the excellent and frightening showdown in the street at night when Guizin attacked Mehmet in rage after having the last straw broken and firing off to Cyprus and him following! Matthew's frightening morph from perfect boyfriend to wife-beating monster, culminating in a frightening atmosphere that two small kids were involved in. Colin's rage over Dr Legge keeping his medical problem from him, Donna's vomit-choking overdose death on Dot's carpet, the brilliant Walford Attacker's brilliant menace pervading the programme for the first 4 months of 1987 till he's caught-this storyline made for several brilliant endings and the duh duh duh drum beat ending cliffhanger each week was something we all looked for to. I'm sure many of us rated them out of 10. And there was the ever present firm who came firmly to the screen in 1988 once Anita had quit. Pauline and Arthur weathered many storms, Kathy's rape was horrific, Mary's continued attempts to raise her baby with all of its disasters, Pat herself would become one of the most important characters, who, like Sharon, long after everyone was gone, and like Sharon and Ian, stayed around to see the programme they started out in destroy itself in a morass of utter bilge.
luv ange, the best EE character EVER! loud, brash, flirty , devious, bold, kind, vunerable and tragic. What other soap character cud deliver all this ? Ange was defo the queen of the Vic
Angie treats everyone with respect and dignity. I may be new to watching EastEnders fully, but looking back I see Angie as the true landlady of the Vic than the iconic Peggy Mitchell!!!!
Angie Watts has always been the true landlady of The Queen Vic she just made eastenders watchable. Even thou Peggy Mitchell was landlady of The Vic for a number of years she is in no way in Angie's leauge. To me the closest think to a decent landlady of The Vic after Angie was her daughter Sharon who became landlady in 1991. Angie was killed of in 2002 but we only saw her coffin. They could bring her back to try and resstle The Queen Vic off Phil with the help from Sharon.
Bullshit, EVERYONE made EE the great show it was throughout its 80s run and ironically 1988 was a real year of fire, proof it could easily survive her big exit, besides we'd already lost important characters before her-and Mary left at the same time anyway, and Lofty a month before her. The Carpenters were pushed out the year before, Debbie too, Naima went end of '87, Andy was the first to be shoved out. Dobson's disappearance from programme was added to with Barry and Mags and Tina before end of year was up, and 1989 would see another hugely important handful gone, and for my money, a bit of my spirit died when Colin drove out and never came back, despite implying he would. His new boyfriend was promptly dumped out the show and then Sue and Ali, Guizin and Mehmet, Carmel and Matthew and devious druggie bitch Donna all sloshed off too. 1989's introductions were good, but fleeting, as they were dumped early 1990! The show managed to get through the 90s with other decent arrivals, some hung on to longer than others and a good amount of general worthwhile goings on, with a bit of nonsense and repetition with some characters here and there, but way too many deaths destroying the sense of credibility and companionship with the show. But by 2003, it was all dead. Nothing left that mattered of anything-not even a show. Just a pathetic, issue-free, badly acted Hollyoaks pantomime.
The thing is we have never had that storyline with the 2 most outspoken landladies of The Queen Vic Angie Watts and Peggy Mitchell. The same can be sead that we have not seen a rivalry or partnership between former Queen Vic landlords Den Watts and his former son-in-law Grant Mitchell. If EastEnders did this storyline between the 4 people who made The Vic what it is today it will blow the roof off.
“You’d have to be mad to think that Anita Dobson was some beauty queen.” What. The. Fuck?! 😡😡😡 that statement was disrespectful!! She was beautiful- and STILL IS beautiful for her being 70 years old!!
Even though I have never seen EastEnders but this character Angie is so hilarious with her voice espcially when she says "Get Out darling and what's the bloody point"?! 😂 😂 😂
@@jrgboy It's not the point. Anyone can 'die' of screen and then bounce up again-like Kathy did! The point is the actress doesn't want back, but they'd have to develop her more. The programme makes are more at fault than yourself for making her so dependent on Den, but come on, she's supposed to be an EastEnder and that means interacting with everyone else. But there's nothing to come back to. It's not EastEnders anymore, it's a Hollyoaks clone piece of shit that simply has Sharon and Ian stuck in it. It's nothing and all the best ones (and storylines) have long gone. Show died in 2003.
@@imreallydead.23 Not the point at all. Anyone can 'die' off screen, but if you don't see it, where's the evidence. Again not the point, the point being the actress don't want back. There were many reasons to come back long before the show died in 2003. Kathy (her supposed best friend's rape) in 1988 just a few months after she'd left, which her hubby had to deal with, she should have come back when Den went into the canal in 1989, and then Sharon traced her birth mother. Anita Dobson wanted no more part of it. And realistically, EE was about more than just her, it was about ALL of them.
Loved Angie!!! I saw her from 1985 when Eastie’s started. I was 8! Then she buggered off with Brian May!!!! Heart Broken!!!! 😂 still I have to say I adore Queen so He’s forgiven!! Freddie told Brian the relationship wouldn’t work!!!!! Well; it has hasn’t it xx
Do you think Angie and Bet, who was number one, would like each other if they met? Some of the comments shown were a bit unfair, Anita/Angie was very attractive, and Anyone Can Fall In Love wasn’t half bad. Bet Claire Sweeney and Sarah White were pig sick their Brookside roles weren’t as high profile as Angie lol.
Anita's performance in the Musical is so similar to US Soap Actresses who did Musicals most notably Grease before it became a Movie in 1978. In future years it would be Dreamgirls and Hairspray. Has there ever been a West End Version of Dreamgirls.
Wouldn't it be cool if it were discovered that she was Related to Bridget & Jerome Dobson who worked on various US Soaps like Guiding Light, Santa Barbara, and As The World Turns. Did you hear that Mal Young quit working on The Young & The Restless but Daran Little (Coronation Street & EastEnders) is still working on The Show who also worked on All My Children.
Who's that man on this clip saying Disrespectful rude comments and critising Anita Dobson 🤔 she's an iconic 👑 she doesn't deserve hate negativity and criticism😮
I didn't get to watch Eastenders because I live in Canada but they would show Old Episodes on PBS (An Educational Network) in the US on a Local Detroit, MI. Station. She could teach the "Folks" on Coronation Street on how to run a Bar. Even if they brought her back to the show, it wouldn't be the same because she wouldn't have the same chemistry with another Co-Star as she did with Leslie Grantham. Also a similar thing happened with Maureen Garrett who from 1976-2009 on and off played Holly on Guiding Light in The US whose relationship with Roger Thorpe played brilliantly by Michael Zaslow had this "dysfunctional" relationship but they thrived on drama like Den and Angie too. Sadly enough Michael would die of ALS and Maureen stunned fans when she came out who had been involved her "Partner" Janet since 1992. Sadly enough Guiding Light made History when Chris Bernau who played Alan Spaulding on and off from 1977-1990 became the Frist US Soap Actor to die of AIDS.
The writers of EastEnders should've not killed off Angie Watts off-screen in 2002 unless Anita Dobson has died. The rule of a soap opera which should strictly obeyed is to kill a character off-screen if an actor or actress has died.
It would be strange if Angie came back since she is a character from the classic era and it wouldn't look right for her to interact with the poor characters of today. It would be good to see Angie, Sharon, Kathy and Ian together again though.
It could have been so different, as Jean Fennell was originally cast but was let go after recording a scene after clashing with Julia Smith. Then Anita Dobson was hired at the eleventh hour.
I was not Hilda Ogden at all she was attractive ( Darren from Hollyoaks was just jealous of her limelight) and a very classy lady. I don't watch EastEnders no more but if Angie returns I will start watching it again.
The Den and Angie years were the best.

@K90_ 2019 Bit hard to that when people so fucking maddening.

Ange has always been one of my favourites. In my opinion she was and always will be THE queen of the Vic
Kathy back now why can't Angie come back
+BUSTY69 - Tiffany as well, please. And Cindy. Hell, bring them all back.
Angie was killed off many many years ago, it's 30 years since she left.. without Den to play off against what would she do ??
Yeah...how cheesy would that be.
She's dead that's why. She died from liver failure. She was a female George Best.

Angie is so pretty
Wow great but how old is this video? Most of the people have passed away now
first aired in 2002

Poor Den? Ange was more devious than Den? Do me a favour! He was certainly a lot more malicious than her!
Beautiful woman
The stretch 2000??
I got it on vhs off ebay a few weeks ago... Its soo good
Can anyone explain the context of why she slapped Kathy?

Who was that host at the beginning of the video?, she's hot
who number 1?
It was Bet Lynch.
ACTING BRILLIANT, EASTENDERS SHIT NOW, LIVED BREATHED DIED ANGIE XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
@crevrath well said!
I would’ve loved a Peggy and Ange Feud instead we had a Peggy & Chrissie Feud 😂
Even on shows like this, Angie gets slagged off.....
