    Thanks for making this video.
    Soon I'll be getting them from RFDesign too, especially the TXMod.
    It's a pity not many videos on UA-cam talks bout these radio, especially the TXMOD, it's WiFi Feature, and the support for many to many connection topology which is a big plus point for me.
    I will buy 3.
    A) The TXMOD with the tiny 2db antenna will go to my TX16S (obviously). It will also stream the telemetry to my Android tablet via WiFi.
    B) a RF900X will go onto my MFD Mimi Crossbow antenna tracker, connected to a Yagi and also a 5db dipole. This RF900X will also supply telemetry to the AAT via wire (or Bluetooth, to be decided later).
    C) a RF900UX will go onto the plane.
    A will talk to C directly when it's near and signal is strong
    A will talk to C via B when A-C signal is weak.
    The radio make decisions rather than just mechanically take input and churn output.
    Setting up is also pretty straight forward for those familiar with command line and scripting on PC/Linux/Mac.
    I can put my AAT tripod in the middle of the field, or on the roof of a building while I hide from the sun under the shades or inside my car, while not having to worry about signal strength. In hot Malaysian weather that really helps.

    another tip, microsoft surface LTE tablets are great to run missionplanner through wifi to the TX but also USB (mavlink mirror) to an antenna tracker like the MFD mini crossbow. Inav also connects to mission planner with the mavlink telemetry enabled showing the craft and some data through mission planner.

    Great video once more!
    Just one note: Crossfire has been found to loose quite a lot of packets while running both rc and telemetry at the same time.
    Also, the telemetry rate of crossfire is way smaller than RFD systems, so to say you can also use crossfire is true, but much limited compared to RFD.

      Charles I've found out the same thing after purchasing the equipment. I'm trying to return it atm. How are you getting on with it? Support told me that basically, this is normal on their equipment to which my response is this isn't ok.

    • @jotham123
      @jotham123 3 роки тому

      Initially I had 4-15% link quality with all other packets lost. Now it's about 20-40% and in certain situations just disconnects altogether, just sitting on my desk. Is that in line with your experience?

    • @charlesmarseille123
      @charlesmarseille123 3 роки тому +1

      @@jotham123 Support is honest saying that. It's the marketing side that is not precise enough. It's like saying you can acro with a arducopter quad... you can, but it's definitely not made for it.
      Sell your crossfire stuff used, buy the rfd900 and get on with it.

    • @charlesmarseille123
      @charlesmarseille123 3 роки тому

      @@jotham123 Yes, pretty much the same here. Know that this telemetry should not be used as a principal and sole telemetry system. It's either a backup, a quadsaver or a diagnosis helper for me as of now.

    • @jotham123
      @jotham123 3 роки тому

      @@charlesmarseille123 I'm not giving up that easily, its marketed as such, and is brand new I'm going to push for a return. If I can demonstrate its not fit for purpose.. its pretty grey area regarding consumer protection laws. It doesn't sit right to just let it go as if its fine. It's not. Sounds like RFD900 system is the way to go.

  • @DanWA
    @DanWA 3 роки тому +1

    I have been using RFD900x for a little while on 2 quads (16 inch and 7 inch) as well as a fixed wing, great and now the V2 JR bay module no longer needs a converter board for Sport for telemetry to the TX. One recommendation... get some short antenna extension cables as the antenna mounts on the board do peel off if an antenna gets stuck on the threads or takes a knock. Have had this happen and it wasn't fun.

    • @charlesmarseille123
      @charlesmarseille123 3 роки тому

      this is something I am always scared of knowing how the small connectors are only soldered and not glued or reinforced to pcb. I guess the db loss is negligeable for this radio system? cables and adapters introduce around 3db losses right?

    RFD is a great telemetry in terms of range and communication but the antenna on ground module are so heavy and if you drop it then pcb will break
    I don't like it's fragile design of the pcb and unprotected components.

    Hi great video about telemetry. and on this topic I have a question for you if I may. I am looking for a way to have telemetry back to me ashore from my RC sailing boat. I'm looking to get Speed over ground so probably from a GPS, a tracking so I can map out my sailing on a map to then extract my boat speed on each tack or leg of the course (seeing my boat overlay on a map). if I can getting the healing angle from some sensor (not sure which) and ideally windspeed and angle to the wind. I know the last 2 would most likely require some wind indicator and speed sensor. But starting simple having the boat speed and overlay my sailing track over a map would go a long way for a first attempt. I use a spektrum dx6 and a flysky is6 - any suggestion for me to start on telemetry on a budget with the view to then keep adding to it?

      @@Painless360 thanks will check your videos. I know Frsky used to have a fair no of sensors & gps but was wondering what is the best option - move to Frsky (knowing now they lock their code) or continue to use my flysky Tx/Rx but adding something like a pixhawk system with this kind of RF telemetry to send data back to a ground station.

    Hi Painless. I was wondering, do you have a video showing setup of the joystick for control through the drone thru telemetry transceiver from the laptop?
    Also, i checked out the link you posted to buy these radios, but they appear to be 900mhz.... Arnt the EU legal ones supposed to be 433mhz?

    Interesting. I wonder how it stacks up to Dragonlink 433 MHz? As I understand it, 433 MHz is legal both in the UK and the USA. So, I wonder why 433 is not used more?

    • @vince086
      @vince086 3 роки тому

      If memory serves, you can set the 868 MHz stuff at a higher power level than 433 MHz based on UK regulations. Also I would go for higher frequency to get better data throughput (assuming range wasn't the main concern).

    Just last week I purchased the full crossfire TX with the intention of using it as my control link as well as my telemetry radio. I have 2-way functionality via mavlink-2. What is the benefit of using this radio (in a 433MHz configuration) over using the crossfire for control and as my telemetry radio?

    • @AnasSuhaimi
      @AnasSuhaimi 3 роки тому

      Wait, now the full Crossfire support 2 way communication thru Bluetooth? Like a laptop running MP, linked to the Crossfire via Bluetooth can not only receive Mavlink packets but also send them to the plane?

    • @AnasSuhaimi

      I don't think RF900X (the latest generation, 32 bit processors) have 433mhz variant.
      It does support many-to-many topology, kinda like mesh network... I haven't yet seen how people exploit this for practical purpose, but at least you could have relay unit on an antenna tracker... Or theoretically have one of the planes act as relay for the other planes in the flock.

    • @JasonParham83
      @JasonParham83 3 роки тому

      @@AnasSuhaimi the many to many comment had me thinking... I wonder if a gotenna network would suffice over a dedicated telemetry radio. Hmmm. In any case, Holybro has a 500mW 433MHz telemetry radio. That's the one I was eyeballing before I got my crossfire working.
