Is the pain that comes out of her aria so vivid, that my heart cries with her. I do not know if she has good or bad voice, but I know how she makes me feel
Way Bandy was a Famous Make-up Artist in the 70s & 80s for all the top photographers & Fashion magazines. A True Artist 🎨 of Make-up, especially for Scavullo. When he was dying of AIDS, he was listening too Maria Callas.🎶
Such a nice series of interviews, especially to hear Harewood speak more about his relationship with her. He really respected and appreciated her and never tried to belittle her and her talent like most others unfortunately did
I had the great pleasure of seeing Simon Callow, the presenter of this documentary, giving readings from Charles Dickens, in a Christmas concert a couple of years ago. He is an actor of great panache and sensibility, and obviously really appreciates Calla' art. A great little documentary.
She has a very particular voice -a couple of bars and you know immediately to whom.you are listening Great voices like Caruso Galli Curci Melchior Schipa Chaliapin etc had also that great advantage with such very "particular " voices And as a singing actress she was and is still unequalled. And her personality was such that she could have walked out on a stage ; read the telephone directory and held an audience spellbound -who else could match that .!!!
Her mother lost a son. When Maria was born she didn't look at her for 4 days! She wanted another son. I know exactly how it feels when you are not loved by your mother... She made her perform to soldiers $$ and wrote a book about her $$... Unwanted children ... They know it... They feel it... They live it!
Yes. I am not sure she sung when "performing" for soldiers... I'm sure ppl can imagine. Her mother never recovered after her son passed. I think she had post partum w Maria & other mental health problems. But she was still an awful mother person to Maria
"The man who thinks madam Callas a perfect vocalist has no ear; man who fails to see that she is one of the supreme artists of our day has no taste". Thank you, great documentary!
It depends, potentially, on how you define the “perfect vocalist”. If you consider the perfect marriage of voice and lyrics/meaning/emotion, then, yes, I would say Callas was the “perfect vocalist”. If, on the other hand you have a superficial interpretation and depend solely on a bland, but pure, vocal quality and line, then Callas would not fit your definition. For my ears and sensitivities, she is, indeed, perfection! And I thank God for her having lived to share her musical soul with us.
@@humbugone1715 When he said "the perfect vocalist", I think it was supposed to refer to that bland and pure vocal quality that other singers may possess more of, but Callas sang with more soul than anyone I've ever heard.
You'll pardon my ignorance, but two questions about the duet at 15:40 - 1.) Am I correct in assuming that this is a recording of Dame Sutherland and Madame Callas? 2.) Which duet is it? Thanks so much.
Not very nice comments from Sutherland particularly about being big. Sutherland was huge, ugly with good but tiny voice, and paled in comparison to La Divina the best With no equal so far
Is this whole thing sound like it's being played a bit too fast? I think the rapid and drastic weight loss had everything to do with her vocal problems. You hear a distinct change in the voice from 1953 to 1954, when she still lived the life of a nun and before she became entangled in the cafe society and the jet set. And this is the time when she lost all that weight: the voice became slimmer, less plush, and less powerful. The quick and free trills slowed down, the wobble began to appear, and the highest parts of the voice no longer came as easily or as freely.

Thank you God for this wonderful gift to the world. Maria is divinity personified, she makes my heart ache.
I could breathe my last breath listening to Callas!

So fortunate to have known of Divina Callas; may she be very happy now!

Such a beautiful woman, amazing singer and artist 💕
Long live the Opera and I’m delighted to see Greek Heritage showing up on my UA-cam!
Amazingly gifted and beautiful
Это дуэт Нормы и Адальжизы из оперы Беллини " Норма".
Now THIS is the way an interview memorial should be put together.

I'm confused... I love callas for her soul & I think she sings perfectly...
We have plenty of proof of the Perfection she was capable of. We have plenty of proof of the Imperfections that came with it. They are both Capital.
🌹💐❤️
Какая красавица! Очень рано покинула этот мир. Золотой голос Каллас звучит и сегодня ,это счастье.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Пуччини Опера Тоска
Исполняет Мария Каллас
The Press & her Fame came BEFORE Onassis 🎶
дуэт у Каллас скорее всего с Кристой Людвиг меццо сопрано.

It’s Stignani, her singing with Simionato is incredible as well.
It's Callas and Stignani. It's from a live performance of Norma in 1952.
Sutherland played Clotilde for Callas' Normas in 52, their duet is on youtube.
Music lessons singing lessons why not!
