KAYAK DEMO: Extreme portability with the Advanced Elements AdvancedFrame Ultralite inflatable kayak

- In this kayak demo / kayak test video, I showcase the unusually lightweight AdvancedFrame Ultralite inflatable kayak from Advanced Elements, with my experience using it for paddling all year round. It's actually one of the kayaks I've used for most trips over the years given how extremely portable this kayak is! It has its limitations though - more on this in the video.

once again a great video on AE craft - lots of fun on water craft
Thank you Robin! I've had a lot of fun with this one, as it is light enough to carry around to a lot of places 🙂Happy paddles!
Very nice overview of the kayak! I'm envious of your paddling locations!
I think, for the viewers without experience with Advanced Elements kayaks it would be useful to include a few words about setup - time, difficulty etc.
I have to say that I'm not really bothered by the saggy floor in this kayak, even thou I'm at it's weight limit, but I admit the Sport does feel better suited for my size.
When you travel with your Ultralite, do you use the bag that the kayak came with?
How do you manage drying your kayaks with fabric covered tubes it in the winter months?
@@jahoo2k Hi there! Thanks, and very good points. I expect to go into a more detailed overview of setup etc just as you describe in a future review. I would recommend videos from Paddling & Pedaling Florida (Dale Simmons) on this. I agree in that the floor doesn't bother me that much - it can be a bit of a curiousity to feel the waves more directly, but then again, I have multiple kayaks for different purposes. If I recall correctly the Ultralite has a carry bag only, but as I have many different kayaks, including several AE models, I tend to use a full carry backpack with straps from either Advanced Elements or Itiwit, and switch out kayaks in between where necessary. For drying in the cold season, I inflate the kayak indoors to dry overnight at least, as this takes a while. While in the field I wipe off as best as I can with a sponge or towel.
I don't like a saggy Bottom !!! 😂 Great information Patrik I can tell you put a lot of hard work into editing this video 👍
Just wondered if you watched my trolley review? I don't mind if you haven't because I know you don't use one so the video would be no good for you. 😢
However if you ever think about getting a trolley for something like the X500 for long portages, then I would recommend the second one because I did use it on my X500 and it works great.
😂😂😂 Haha, thanks George. I am looking forward to watching your trolley review, made a screenshot of it on my phone when I saw it come out to remind me to watch it as the theme is of particular interest to me. I actually have a couple of trolleys that I use at times, and a kayak cart, but for something like the X500 I would need a better solution indeed. I didn't have time to get to it yet but will check it out probably tomorrow! Great that you're providing info on these things!
@AirOnTheWater I didn't realize you used trolleys so you may find it interesting, hopefully lol
@@THE-RIVER-RAT I'm sure I will! I use them relatively rarely, but it happens, and for the X500 I'd like to find a better system, so I look forward to watching!
@THE-RIVER-RAT It was a good watch - great to see the overview! I've been lazy in recent years and for the most part used my lightweight kayaks for paddles where I know I'll have to portage, so less trolley use. But they've been instrumental during paddles with the heavier kayaks!
Hello from Germany and many thanks for the video. Ive been thinking about getting the kajak too, but at 183cm 78kg I'm concerned that it might be too. cramped. Any thoughts?
Hi there! This kayak can be a little bit cramped, but at just a few cm less than you and at similar size/weight while trying out this kayak I have made it work. The thing is that there is an inflatable footrest that is placed in the front of the kayak, and if there's an issue with length, that could be removed. The shoe size might be more of an issue if your size is over 45 - there's not a lot of space upwards for legs/feet. Another option could be the Advanced Elements AdvancedFrame Sport, which adds a few kg of weight but has more performance and might work better. If you have the option, it's always good to try out the kayak first, or sitting in a demo kayak! You can see more of the Ultralite in this playlist: PL0N7YXCEhFmd7l_HUemYEFgBwUMw_MaFk
This music and the constant text on screen is annoying. You might have more subscribers if YOU was more connected to your viewers. Come on mate dont fall into the youtube trap and just pump out cold video's. Talk more without music to your viewers.
Thank you for the feedback! I recognize that a speaker voice or recorded "talking head" speaking directly will be more effective and easier to follow. In this case though, I received questions from a paddler about this kayak, recording a speech presentation wasn't a viable option unless delaying the video, and thus the info on screen to help out in all cases. There will be a full kayak review at a later point where this will be different. Plus, you can hear and see me talking to the viewer(s) in many other videos. Happy paddling!
