Text in the video:
Arriving by train, the first eye catcher you will encounter is the Holsten Gate. A true symbol of the city. It used to be the third gate in line, but during the industrial revolution people needed space, and the gates were demolished. This one only survived because the Lubeck citizens voted it to stay, by a majority of just one vote.
You might notice the towers aren’t really leveled. The water around the old town and the lack of connection underground, made them two towers of Pisa.
The inscription says: harmony inside, peace outside. Remember Lubeck was a rich city, and war would just cost a lot of money.
The entire Old Town is a unesco world Heritage side, since the late 80’s
And if you love this Brick Gothic architecture, St. Mary’s Church is a must visit. It was used as an example for 70 other churches in the Baltic region. So yes, this is a building of high architectural importance.
Walking the streets I was surprised by the contrast within the city. You’ll find busy shopping streets, and lonely alley’s in less than a minute from one another. And keep your eyes open for signs like this. These are the gateways to the smallest streets in Lubeck.
What used to be tiny rooms back in the middle ages, are almost doll like houses today. Some of them over 400 years old.
If you see a gas lamp, the alley is not privately owned and you’re allowed to enter.
The old town is home to 5 large churches. Besides St. Mary’s church, St. Peter’s caught my eye. Go around sunset, and you’ll have a beautiful view over the city.
By far my favorite place in the old town has everything to do with theatre puppets.
The theatre is situated in 5 old merchant houses. Inside you find a complex system of chambers and halls, which really makes you feel lost in puppet world.
There are puppets from all over the globe in here. You’ll find loads of different techniques to play with them. From centuries ago, till very recent times.
It shows very well how big the world of theatre puppets actually is.
You might notice small models of the famous buildings, made out of Marzipan. And you guessed it: Lubeck is famous for it. Especially this shop: Niederegger. This treat, once being affordable by kings only, is to be found in numerous shapes and sizes. And if you get the Niederegger marzipan, it will be made without any sugar. Just
An other spot foodies might have heard of is Schiffergesellschaft. Surrounded by old model ships you feel like traveling in time. It’s a busy place, so make your reservation in time.
This popular spot made me wonder, what’s there off the beaten track?
So I took a little detour to Veg-at-table. A little vegan spot, with some great choices for lunch. They are just closing up in the late afternoon here. So after a good plate of food I asked them for a nice spot for an afternoon coffee.
That’s how I ended up in Marae. An other vegan place, with great coffee and even greater cakes. No sugar, but dates only :D
And yet again with very heartwarming owners.
They gave me the tip for our final, and best hidden gem: Café Bohne.
Just out of the Old town, hidden between the houses. You must go here on a Sunday morning. The owner makes literally the best breakfast buffet in town. With Mediterranian dishes, one even better than the other.

I visited Lübec in January of 1988, and was sent there for addition technical training and certification at Drägerwerk AG. Our company arranged for the two of us to arrive on Saturday, before the Monday-Friday course, and leave on the Sunday after the course. That gave us two full days to ourselves for sight seeing. Plus evenings walking about town and trying out restaurants and pubs. We had a fantastic week, and I was very impressed with the people, the sites, and the history. We also took a short bus trip to view the East/West border area, only about a year and a half before reunification.
I was lucky to have been stationed in Kellinghusen during the 80s. Loved the area and miss exploring Schleswig Holstein. Lubeck was a great place to visit.
A very nice and beautiful portrait of the "Queen of the Hanse". Thank you!
Cool! Thanx :D
Thats strange. Lubeca is capital of hanse but its not as big as Amsterdam stockholm or even gdańsk
We planning a trip to Germany this coming May (2023). Lubeck looks delightful. Thank you for your video!
I was there last April after last visdit in 1984 ! I love this city !!!!
The old part of the city is marvelous !!!💓💓💓
This is an amazing place, I hope I can visit again sometime in the future when all this is over. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much!
Its nice to See my Hometown through other Peoples Eyes , Fact is i was Born in Lübeck but i don´t know Cafe Bohnen :D Thank You
😃 I only got there cause the other cafe owners told me 😊 it's quite well hidden!
Beautiful❤ I was born and raised there and you portrayed it very well

great video! amazing shots! and very well put together!
Thanx :D
Those small alley are cool and clean. I would love to live in that kind of Place.
Great video. 👌🏼
+Pusong Gilas Pilipinas 😀😀😘😘
It was not mentioned in the video, but in my opinion one of the most important things to know about Lübeck is that Thomas Mann was born in the town. Also in his book "Buddenbrooks: The decline of a Family" full with autobiographical elements the plot takes place in Lübeck and most of the things happen in the family house on the Mengstraße where he was also living (the house with white facade - 2:44)
My great grandfather was from Lübeck. I hope I can visit some day ❤
I come from Wismar, which is located some 40 Km east of Lübeck. Really nice video! Now I feel homesick ;-)
+Chris in China 😊😊 And in China now according to your name? That's quite far from home!
Thank you so much for creating this informative video ! Learnt many things and surely visit this city in the future !

Thanx for watching and leaving your 5 cents :D
Lübeck played an important role in medieval times. It was the capital of the 'Hanse' an association of towns for free trade. These alliance extended Form the Netherlands via Northern Germany to the baltic countries.
very beautiful work
Such a beautiful town. Have not visited this far north in Germany. Well done. 👍 By the way, in the description box you accidentally used your *_Prague_* intro to all the Lubeck restaurants you visited.
Thanx Tosh! I copy paste the description of last vid and adjust, so I don't need to write everything all over again. But yeah, that's not supposed to be that way ;)
Wouldn't have seen it myself, so thanx a lot!!! :D
Wow nice video, love it. This reminds me of my days when I worked in Frankfurt. Ich vermisse Deutschland. Grüße von Manila.
Haha, danke :D I have never been to Frankfurt yet, but I guess Germany is so big, there are a lot of spots I should still see ;)

Do you know if there are lockers in Lubeck train station? Many thanks.
Very interesting.
What a lovely place. 😊
+Banal Na Aso 😊😊
Lubeck reminds me of Rothenburg. I love that even after WWII Germans manage to restore these towns. I'm suddenly missing the cold climate of Germany!
+BangsBucketList Haha - thanx Bang!! Ooh - don't remind me of the cold cause I'll miss the Philippines ;)
great video!
They didn't have indoor plumbing 400 years ago, so where does everybody shit and piss? Or do they still just dump it out the window as you are walking by?
Hey, do you know anything about Heiligen-Geist-Hospital or where to learn about it?
Not more than google can tell you I am afraid :)
I love your work .. and check mine for Lübeck . I went there ..

:) :)
Hehehe, my Hometown, i live there, and even made an own YT-Video about it.
BUT we are not that small as you may think, we have around 250K Residents
(so 1/4 million). and from its geographic size, we are the second biggest City in northgerman federal-state Schleswig-Holstein..
(Kiel, as the captial city of Schleswig Holstein is just slightly bigger and holds ~300K Residents )... Anyways, nice Vid from you, very sympathic :)
:)
Hey! I live and study in Germany, in Berlin. I want to do my thesis in Lübeck, and I want to know if people accept foreigners, like do they have some racist ideology?
:)
@@arwabenajiba3783 why should they be more racist then people in general?

+swissclimber1 Cool! And yes - it does this all by itself 😊
Europe is so full of history and beauty, wish I could take a year off just to travel Europe, to visit beautiful little towns like Lubeck! :)
Yeah - I sometimes don't realize that but you're right :) You could go from this place to the next, visiting 2 days each and enjoy yourself for years and years!
Can you tell me the name of the song?
Textile market bhilwara
Mooie reportage.
.
Ik vind helemaal moi
I live in Lübeck oups 🤭😂
Tell me some address in lubeck
