The last memory Grand Pear will ever have of his daughter while she was alive was when he disowned her. That's.... rough.
same for her, that was the last time she saw him:(
Dang
Definitely..
"That's rough, buddy"
-Prince Zuko
"My *daughter* turned into *a corpse* " "That's rough, buddy"
The heaviest line I've read pertaining to AJ parents being dead comes from Applebloom. "Can you miss someone that you don't remember." Get's me every time because she was too young to remember her parents.
Oh my god... that's heartbreaking
Isn't that Sprig's line from Amphibia? 😭
@@someteennamedcharles2035 THATS WHAT I THOUGHT WHEN I REWATCHED THAT EPISODE HAHAHA
When did she say that
Granny Smith doesn't necessarily get mad when the Pears are brought up. Applejack says she "gets so upset she can't talk."
My headcannon is Granny feels guilty for perpetuating the feud, to the point that Granpear disowned his own daughter (you can see the shock on her face when he says it). She clearly regrets it, but is too ashamed to tellbher grandkids howbbadly she hurt their mother, even unintentionally.
Hence, "upset." She's been wracked with guilt!
Yeah or maybe she is mad...at herself. But that's still rooted from the guilt 😅
She could also just be so mad at Granpear specifically for disowning his daughter. Family was supposed to be important to both pears and apples but to him it wasn’t important enough
“Are you making me choose?”
“Then, yeah. I guess I am.”
Those lines still hurt so damn much 😢
Rarity definitely makes the best noises in the entire series lmao. Tabitha is such a good VA.
Thing with Rarity is that she seems to be two-dimentsional on the outside. Typical, fashion and popularity obssessed drama queen, but over the course of show, we find that there is much more in her than it seems. It took me a while to start liking her, but now is is one of my favorutes with Luna and Chrysalis (and definíitely favorite from mane six)
@@Daralyndk Her over the top personality is one reason why she's so funny to me, Rarity investigates is the best noir episode, but she's been one of my favourites since Season 2, Sweet and Elite was really the beginning of Rarity's character growth.
Fame and Misfortune was probably one of the more “controversial” episodes of the show, namely because certain people in the fandom were thinking that the crew didn’t like them for having these opinions/criticisms of the characters. I think it took the director releasing a statement that basically said, “We didn’t actually want to green light this episode but we had to work with what Hasbro gave us” before people backed off
I love how to this day "The Perfect Pear" is considered to be one of the greatest episodes of the FIM series! It was so awesome that we finally got to see what the Apple siblings parents were like before their off screen deaths, In fact Bright Mac and Pear Butter instantly became two of my all time favorite season 7 characters!
Just as "The Perfect Pair" song instantly became one of my all time favorite season 7 songs, I can't help but cry a little every time I listen to it. It's just that damn wholesome and romantic!
It was also interesting that the writers decided to give the episode a bit of a Romeo and Juliet type of twist to it. But I remember a lot of people in the fandom not liking it back in the day and on some level I could see why, Hell I certainly hated it when Grand Pear disowned Pear Butter all because of a stupid and petty feud.
And by the time he decided to patch things up with Pear Butter it was too late, But even though Grand Pear was too late to patch things up with his daughter. At least he met his grandchildren and getting to be part of their lives is the best second chance that Grand Pear could've asked for, In fact I have no doubt that all of them being a family again is exactly what both Bright Mac and Pear Butter would've wanted for all of them.
It goes without saying that "Fame and Misfortune" is one of the craziest episodes of not just season 7 but the entire FIM series. Though it was very interesting to see the ponies of Equestria form a fandom within the show itself, Even if it was meant to be a nitpick at both the mlp fandom and Brony community.
I felt really bad for all the members of the Mane 6, Applejack was letting strangers live at her farm, Pinkie Pie was being insincerely laughed at, Fluttershy kept getting pestered for not being assertive all the time, Rainbow Dash was basically being stocked, And Rarity's fashion empire was being boycotted, All because of the dumb friendship journal.
But the facial expressions that were made in this episode were both creepy and hilarious, Like when Rarity lost her mind and made "stress couture" I mean I felt bad for her but the face she made when Twilight and Starlight visited her was funny.
Anyway. I absolutely loved "Flawless" it instantly became one of my all time favorite songs in the series just as it became a fan favorite for many others in the fandom!
Props to Scoot for being able to watch another episode after the Freight Train of emotions of Perfect Pear. The first time I watched it I had to take a break from all entertainment and just think about my life and family for like 20 minutes lol.
Yeah plus this is also when he finally gets to encounter William Shatner Pony that of course being Grampear
I think they have hinted at how the parents died. In season 4 Somepony to Watch Over Me, AJ was acting more protective of Apple Bloom. She never had a problem in the past leaving her unattended. When Bloom heads off the swamp to deliver the pies, AJ panics, asking if Bloom had taken various items, then becomes distraught saying she may never see her little sister again. It may have been a Chimera that got them during a delivery in the swamp.
Her overprotectiveness was there for the whole episode, and for most of it was completely unfounded. Concern for Applebloom after she found out she'd gone into the fire swamp was not. The seemingly random list of items was actually a checklist of tools for safe travel through the swamp. Flameproof boots because of the sudden eruptions of flame from the sulfur pools, and I'm pretty sure everything else was specifically for dealing with a (the?) chimera.
This episode still breaks my heart 💔 I cry every time I watch it. It's so heart breaking he let his anger keep him from his family until his daughter was already gone 😔
The ep with AJ's parents made me cry, cause their so cute together, and they had such a passionate love for eachother and didnt give up no matter how much troubles they had going on. And we never got any screen time of them. 😢❤
Fame and Misfortune is actually about the Brony fandom. The ending with the kids learning the lesson and the adults still arguing, is about how MLP is made first and for most, for the kids. And if the kids learn something then they have done their job,
This season in particular was jampacked with subtlety in its writing.
With grandpear’s lines at the end, you really get a sense of his pain.
(he voiced by William Shatner by the way)
“I was just so angry… but I didn’t mean…”
“I can’t believe I let a silly feud… keep me from my family”
I love both these episodes this was the show’s way of confirming that Aj’s parents are indeed dead, everyone refers to them the same way you would speak of the dead and also Applebloom, their youngest child is still quite young, it’s hard to believe they’d just suddenly up and leave after having three kids, so most likely their parents died shortly after Applebloom was born. One fan theory is that they lost their lives to Timberwolves. The show did that while also giving some closure about Aj’s parents, I really appreciate that since Aj is the only one of the mane six who doesn’t have parents.
The Fame and Misfortune episode was a direct dig at all the complainers in the fandom, “Just be assertive already”, “Twilight was better before she got wings”, “It’s not realistic that the six of them would be friends”, all of these and the other complaints are exactly what some fans were actually complaining about. We also got one of the best songs in the show. This is also one of those episodes for me where Starlight doesn’t feel out of place.
Something I noticed about one of the reasons why people (including myself) enjoyed the show, we tuned in every episode just to see what our beloved characters were getting up to, like checking in on a friend. That’s it and it’s so simple I don’t know how I never noticed before.
out of all the mlp parents, meeting AJ's was the most anticipated within the brony community, especially when up until that point we'd been wondering how they died- good thing the show showed us how they lived because we got a tear-jerker of an episode (imo)
the perfect pear was such a diamond in the rough for this season, literally will never recover from it it's such a heartwrenching episode and im so happy how they handled the story of applejacks parents
Calling The Perfect Pear a diamond in the rough makes the rest of the season sound really bad compared to the rest of the series.
Bright Mac and Pear Butter are absolutely adorable and the episode is absolutely heart wrenching
Grand Pear recognizing AppleBloom so clearly bc of her color scheme too aaaaa
Burnt Oak reminds me of my own Grandpa. He died over a decade ago. I don't remember much of my Grandpa, but I do know he was something like Burnt Oak. Cowboy hat, hard worker, grey unkempt mustache, low gravelly voice. I know he's modeled after his VA, and it's sorta weird to pin a connection on a random man I haven't met, but all the same. When this cartoon depiction of a man made pony cries, I cry.
The Perfect Pear is one of my favorite episodes. It also has one of my all time favorite songs too.
Perfect Pear is one of the best episodes in the entire series! I love the setup of the siblings going to different people who knew their parents to learn more about them. And yes, it's pretty clear that the parents died, but the series never actually says as much. Personally, I think that's a pretty dumb decision. If Sesame Street can talk about people who died in a child-friendly way then My Little Pony can do it too. And especially considering how many children have had family members who have died, an episode like this provides a great opportunity for kids to talk about it.
Fun fact: In Greek mythology there is a story of a married couple named Baucis and Philemon. They earned a blessing from the gods and were given the opportunity to ask for anything they wanted. They said that since they loved each other so much their greatest wish was that they would die at the same time so neither one would ever have to be without the other. Several years later the time came for them to die, and the gods turned them into two trees which sprang from the same trunk and had their branches forever intertwining. I don't know if the apple/pear tree is a deliberate reference to the story, but it works out perfectly, and it does indicate that Bright Mac and Buttercup died together.
Their parents' fate is hinted at in season 4 episode 17 "somepony to watch over me". They mostly likely met their fate in that swamp which is why AJ was so protective over Applebloom and didn't want to leave her.
We never find out what happened to apple Jack's parents but it believed the hot killed by some thing in transport like how apple bloom almost got killed by that mantacore
the later seasons are pretty weak for me but the perfect pear and even fame and misfortune are two back to back BANGER episodes that i literally love and hold so dear to my heart
im so so so so happy scoot finally got to this episode ong
One of my favorite episodes love the song too ❤❤❤

Both these episode are probably in my top 10, they’re S-tier.
The perfect pear makes me cry every time
So regarding the whole debate as to whether or not their parents are regarded as having past or not, in Apple Family Reunion there are a couple times you see a pair of shooting stars going over Sweet Apple Acres. The first time Applejack notices them as Granny mentions "we got the whole family together this time round, who knows if they'll all be able to make the next one." It was even brought up by Lauren Faust herself that they were not intended to be outright dead from the start, but that's more so how she would have gone with it if given the chance.
These two episodes are great! Heartwarming Apple History followed by the biggest middle finger to the fanbase. I was never super integrated in the MLP fandom, I knew of like...2 fan songs and that was it, but I even was overwhelmed with how toxic the fanbase is (or any fanbase TBH). It's a great reminder to the people who got WAAAAAAAAY too into it to remember, this was made for the kids, and you can learn too, if you just allow it to teach you and enjoy it for what it is. Sure, there are some REALLY heavy misses (Spike's development being a big one for me-or how the Yaks are presented), but in general I'd say about 90% of the base lessons are important for anyone to learn. And ironically, is applicable to real life as well with social media. Putting someone on a pedestal, or dehumanizing them because of what YOU'VE gathered, is a toxic parasocial relationship that needs to be squashed asap.
Fame and Misfortune is one of those things I think everyone should watch if they consume any kind of media, because its a great reminder to:
-Let characters develop in the way the artist intended (Or stop "headcanoning/shipping" real people)
-Stop expecting perfection, that'd make the stories REALLY boring (Also show me a perfect human before you judge someone real because they're "an influencer".)
-People heal backwards, before they heal forwards, so mistakes are made more than once (Give people space to breathe)
-Missing the point of a story or piece of content is one of the most insulting types of "fans". You can disagree with a point, art is meant to give feeling, but if you completely disregard what they stand for because of YOUR feelings, and then get mad because they don't do what YOU want, you're not really a fan.
There was no real way to "challenge" the ponies outside, because they reflect the very real fans of the show who are too delusional to realize they're a problem. People have tried for years, and its a sad part of the truth of popularity. Look at some more current popular content: Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss. Once again, I'm not a big fanbase kinda person so I don't get too in depth, but TikTok loves to throw really wild videos about the show and it just boggles my mind that people are so disconnected with real life and the complexities of media and human relationships. People hate being told they're wrong, no matter how polite you are, and its a rare green flag to be able to have a civil conversation about disagreements, or point out something that bothers you without making it personal. Just to throw a wild example, apparently there was someone who tried to hold Voltron content hostage (blackmail private content not yet for the public) and only said they'd keep it private IF the creators made a ship canon. People get way too engrossed in their fantasies and completely forget the main purpose of whatever media they're consuming. And hot take, I think these kinds of people SHOULDN'T watch fiction, or at least not be able to interact with the online world with it. Because they make spaces so unsafe and unhealthy and active endanger others who disagree with them.
I think actually having the gang NOT fix it on screen is a bigger middle finger, because it doesn't give these hyperfans the closure that "they're good people who got too excited" or damn them as "bad people who hate fun". It's much more nuanced than that, and something the show-and most creations online tbh, can't fully tackle without breaking a few eggs. And for a kids show? That's too messy for them. Something like Rick and Morty would pull I'm sure (i've never seen it, but I know its known for being edgy to hell so I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to tackle the crazy fanbase).
Long comment, but fanbases are something I'm super passionate about because in concept, they're great. But the further you go, the worse they are.
I'm so excited to watch this. Love ya Scoot! 🙏 Stay safe!!
I love these 2 episodes
SO MUCH
These are two of my favorite episode. Episode 14 was incredibly meta when it aired because a lot of the comments the fan ponies were making were junk the adult fans were actually saying and the two younger ponies who talked about what they learned from the journal were meant to represent the target audience.
Welcome to what is generally considered as one of the highest rated mlp episodes
During an Apple family reunion episode when talking about family 2 stars in the sky twinkle implying that the parents are dead/ up there in the sky.
Most anticipated episode for me
OHH HELL YEAH THIS EPISODEEE
Trivia time:According to IMDB ratings, The Perfect Pear is the single best episode of the series
And Fame and Misfortune is probably the most contentious episode of the series, with people either calling it a much-needed riffing on the worst elements of the fandom during its peak years, or a mean-spirited middle finger at the fandom. Doesn't help that even the writer himself has disowned this episode, saying that the hasbro execs basically forced him to make the episode so mean-spirited.
Both episodes are really good but of course fame in misfortune made me laugh with the botany refences and somone who grew up with g3/g3.5 and still love them freaked out seeing Toola Roola and coconut Cream Too bad starsong wasn’t in the show but theirs cool fan art of her in g4 style
I swear on my life you’ve already posted this 😭 like..I’ve watched it before today. Am I trippin?
13:47 got me 😭
the perfect pear is one of my favorite episodes in the series. it's such a beautiful story, and it never fails to make me tear up. fame and misfortune is one of my least favorite episodes in the series. they combined critiques of the fandom with critiques of parasocial relationships and it just doesn't mesh well, and also they just kinda ruined everyone's lives only to ignore that forever? the song slaps though
FINALLU I’VE BEEN WAITING
Perfect Pear is considered to be on of the best episodes in the entire show
Fame and Misfortune on the other hand is believed to be a nudge to certain parts of the fandom that were complainnig about everything. Now, I mean people who constantly complain because the characters don't fit their own headcannon, I don't mean people who point out something here and there
I was very excited when you finally watched these episodes!
FINALLY A MLP SHOW
Good old family drama :3
Does anyone els remember a different ending to this episode?? I remember them looking through photo albums with him at night, then it zooms out and we see two shootings stars fly through the sky
🩷🩷 maybe I'm crazy
I think you’re thinking about the apple family reunion episode
@@rockyme100 I might be? I didn't even think abt that 😭 I kinda wish it was the ending for this episode tho
That sounds like the family reunion episode but i havent seen it in a while
I've been hyped for this episode for a solid month😂😂😂payoff was good
I know this is obvious but I think the second episode is what the hater back then I think the ponies who were questioning the main six are the people in real life who either judge hate and love them
I have see a lot of "Romeo and Juliet" parody in my time, but "The Perfect Pear" has got to be the most beautiful and sweetest ones ever! 💖🍎🍐
Oh shit here we go!
The perfect pear is one of the saddest episode it hits way too hard
Both episodes are definitely easy s tier for me especially the perfect pear episode I don’t know one person who hasn’t watched that episode and not smiled through out
Toola Roola, Applejack and Pear Butter are some of my favorite ponies of all time 🥹 I used to have a mlp gen3 coloring book when I was little, like before gen 4 even started, and I thought toola roola was the coolest because she was always painting/drawing like me
and then when I started watching gen 4 I became OBSESSED with applejack, I don’t even really understand why, but my parents got me all of the merch of her and I loved her so much
I think my own mane six ranking would be
1. Twilight
2. Pinkie
3. Applejack
4. Rainbow
5. Fluttershy
6. Rarity
although 1-4 are all very close because I can’t decide which ones I love more
Honestly if youre excited about the new places, cant wait for you to see the mlp movie
There have been some hilariously sad reactions to that episode.
I've learned to just ignore it. Scoot will always have the most unhinged food takes
This story is very Romeo and Juliet Esk. 12:19 Coconut Cream and Toola roola Are g3 ponies. And so Are Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle. This whole episode is just Background ponies being the mlp Fanbase. 19:05 Her Character, Twilight and her Friends are “Real” Ponies. I saw that with Quotation marks. 19:23 This episode is Just the Fanbase Screaming in the Ear of Laura.
I can't wait for shy guy and samerye jack reaction to season 7 episode 13 one day
I heard somewhere that Aj’s parents were attacked by Timber Wolves and that’s how they died, is that true?
That's a fan theory, but as far as I know there's no official word on how they died.

Second ep was defo Bronies vs The target audience xD
The BIG one.....

Hi papi
Im just gonna call you papi from now on

This episode will always be half ruined for me because of that leaked email 😭😭
I hate pppears I only like apples, grapes and sometimes oranges
FIRST HELL YEAH

There is this comic where Grandpear is getting letters from his daugter for years but never read any because of how angry he was. At some point the letters stoped coming and for a while he thought that she gave up but then as years went by he started reading them and found out about BigMac, AJ and Apple Bloom. Then when he finally wanted to reconcile he found out why letters stopped coming: AJ's parents are gone (as always nopony specified if or how they died)
is it fan comic? I never heard about it but I would check it out
@@Daralyndk yes, it's fanmade, I recomend listening to Scribbler's reading version. It's called "The Life I Never Had"

@@fluttershyisnotadoormat4678 weeeeeelll... "like it" depends on context. It was a tearjerker, but yes, it hit me hard
Perfect Pear is peak MLP. It's more relatable than Romeo and Juliet and also hits harder. It just gets more tragic the longer you think about it. Also that heart shaped tree at the end is a real thing that can happen to trees planted really close together.
If the trees were given constant nutrients, that is. Left unattended, those trees would most likely have died.
@@WyvernScribe they're on an orchard so the land is perfect for growing trees
As a kid you think Granny Smith is just mad about the feud between them.
As an adult you realize it's the fact Grand Pear disowned his daughter and never returned.... and now his daughter is dead.
While we finally get to learn about the Apple siblings’ parents, I like how this touches upon a sensitive subject about being disowned by a parent on an animated series aimed towards kids. What their maternal grandfather was very harsh to do that to his own daughter 😔, but for Granny Smith to witness that happen to her son’s new wife? At least she welcomed her new daughter-in-law with open arms. 😌
Perfect Pear episode was very emotional. It's one of the best and saddest episodes I've cried. Learning about Applejack's parents was very touching and heartwarming, especially their song. I feel bad for Applejack, Apple Bloom and Big Mac
🍎🍎🍎🥹🥹🥹💖💖💖
Ah yes, Fame and misfortune, fandoms are voletile, gave me a good laugth when it first aired, recognised the complaints from seasons 3 to 5, that got riffed on.
From time to time, you do need to get that reality check for your behaviour. I remember a bunch of people getting pissed with Fame and misfortune. They did not like what the mirror was showing them.
19:29
Congratulations, you have obtained, context!
Starlight does _not_ play when it comes to defending her friends. If this were a different show, she would be the assassin Twilight sends out.
Perfect pear bought close to the wonder if AJ's parents were still around. It was a very bittersweet episode, and a tearjerker for sure.
That was made clear two seasons prior in Crusaders of the Lost Mark. 'If mom and dad were still here, they'd be so proud of you'.
@@devonm042690 it was, and it wasn't, they left it a bit too open to interpretation and a lot of people in the fandom argued about it.
With Perfect Pear, there was no question about it, they are gone. it ended any ambiguity about it.
I love how this episode was presented as an “Applejack’s parents” episode, but really it was just Pear Butter’s episode and about just how adorable she was.
I know everybody is talking about the perfect pear, but I’d just like to shine some light on the episode after, fame and misfortune.
this episode was basically parodying the brony fandom with how all the ponies who read the book talked about and reacted to it. the diehard rainbow dash fans, collectors, people thinking rarity is pompous and stuck up, how people complained that fluttershy kept learning to be assertive, and even people saying twilight was better off in canterlot and without wings, etc. it’s difficult to pick up on that if you weren’t there in the fandom at the time.
Fame and Misfortune is great
Pear Butter is voiced by Felicia Day, by the way. And yeah she has an amazing singing voice, as most nerds have known for like 16 years. And Grand Pear is voiced by none other than William Shatner.
Also, this episode was written by the amazing Joanna Lewis and Kristine Songco, who also wrote the best show ever, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts :)
And the other episode is 100% dunking on the fandom. It's like the opposite of episode 100. The song is great though.
This episode reminds me how I never met my grandfather. He passed away years ago when my dad was young. I still think about him and love him so much
😭😭😭💔💔💔
The backstory for Apple Jack and the other parents is super interesting and beautiful.
'The Perfect Pear'
- Basically, a Romeo & Juliet story
- Both families have feud that stemmed from who-knows-what
- Bright Mac & Pear Butter are the forbidden lovers
- Grand Pear & Granny Smith are the Montagues & Capulets
- Mayor Mare is Friar Lawrence & Chiffon Swirl/Mrs. Cake was like the Nurse.
- At the end, both are deceased (except here, we don't know exactly why)
'Fame & Misfortune'
- I believe that this is the show writers responding to the fandom about all of these crazy theories, preferences on characters & the haters.
- I only realise this now returning to it older & more mature.
- I like that they did this, just makes the whole episode just more special.
The Perfect Pear is such a nice episode, I love that we get a backstory on the apple siblings parents. Especially since we had no information on them except of them dying off screen, until this episode. I don’t care if it’s a bit Romeo & Juliet like, I think it kind of fits. I also love the song definitely in my top 10 mlp songs. It’s just one of those wholesome songs in my opinion.
Fame and Misfortune is kind of interesting, seeing how the ponies themselves would react to these events. But the one thing I absolutely love is the song Flawless. I feel most people can relate to at least one of the mane 6’s personalities, and that is why it’s in my top 5 mlp songs. And even if you don’t you can still relate to your own personality and flaws. I personally fit with Fluttershy and Pinkiepie. I am normally reserved and take a while to become confident like Flutter. But once I get past that I am full of giggles and a bit of a bubbly/happy personality like Pinkie.
17:16 Rarity is my fav character, she is simply the definition of hilarious and spectacular i love her
in the mlp game for fathers day they had the mane 6 with their dads and apple jacks was transpirent like a ghost
Honestly you got a good eye for color Scoot. If you ever try The Arts, color is hard to get into at first, but I think you’d be a good painter. Or pixel artist.
This episode is considered the most emotional, love episode among MLP fans. The story about Bright Mac and Pear Butter in a Romeo and Juliet love story situation. All the hardships they had to go through till their love prevailed. Only to not see them in the present with AJ and her family. It truly is heart wrecking and tear-jerking episode
12:32 I remember getting excited about seeing those 2 ponies, cause I actually watched a lot of g3 when I was little. I specifically remember toola-roola. I think though, if i'd never seen g3 before and only saw g4, I would also think it looked weird LOL
i’ve been so excited for you to get to The Perfect Pear, genuinely one of my favorite episodes and the song always makes me emotional :”)
Pears are the BEST fruit. No contest.
They both died when they came down with a bad case of tragic backstory.
I screamed out Yes when I saw this.I have been waiting for you to watch this.
It's cute when they do it but when people count it out loud,it's annoying.
I laughed at 12:37.When they ran in on the second episode,I knew the episode was coming.
