I really like "Brotherhooves Social" We don't often get a chance to see Big Macintosh shine, but this episode more than does him justice. I also like that everyone recognized him immediately, but they were all willing to just go with it.
"Crusaders of the Lost Mark" is one of the most pivotal episodes of the entire series for obvious reasons. It is a beautiful culmination to an arc that has been building since the first season. I'm also so happy that this happens in the middle of the series instead of waiting until the very end.
The designs for the CMC marks are really clever. The shield shape seems to show up in marks that are related to helping or protecting others, like Shining Armor's mark. The background colors are a combination of the colors of their manes. The purple shape in each mark represents the three pony races: Scootaloo has a wing to represent pegasi, Apple Bloom has an apple to represent Earth ponies, and Sweetie Belle has a star to represent unicorns (stars often appear in marks for magic-based talents). The smaller pink shape represents the three of them as individuals: The lightning bolt represents Scootaloo's love of speed, the heart represents Apple Bloom's compassion, and the note represents Sweetie Belle's musicality. It's fantastic.
Well the shield shape is for the “crusader” part of their name. Since a shield is often associated with knights and crusaders. But I agree with the rest.
What I love about "brotherhooves social" is that it really sets up big mac as being a closeted trans woman.

@shadamyandsonamylover it's not a wild take, it was actually talked abou by Peter New, the voice of big macintosh. Not to mention the moment in season 5 ep 3 "do princesses dream of magic sheep?" , when big mac is told the can be ANYTHING, he immediatly turned into princess big Mac, even with a higher pitched, more fem voice. The reason big macintosh almost never speaks is because she hates her masculine voice. Notic how big mack said more words in one episode as orchard blossom then she did in the rest of the show as big mac? That's because being orchard blossom was the most comfortable she has ever felt.
@@hlessiavedon I still don’t believe that. Was it confirmed canon by the VA? There is literally so little to go on to make that conclusion. Also, just because Big Mac chose to turn into an *Alicorn* doesn’t mean he wanted to be a princess. Just because we didn’t see any male alicorn’s doesnt mean there can’t be any.
Crusaders of the lost Mark is literally my favorite episode of this season. The music is fantastic and the emotions are on point( we made our mark literally almost makes me cry)and after so long The CMC finally have their cutie marks
I like this season finale but it is top 3 or 4 episodes of this season for me

The only problem I have with the episode is pacing. It would have felt better as a two parter, but then again, a CMC two parter would have been pretty obvious that they get their cutie mark.

The pony that I want to be was a huge turning point for me in life. I really had to sit back and reflect on myself and my views, so I guess in a way this episode was a real life moment for me.

Brotherhooves social is one of my favorite episodes. I've always related to Big Mac, but seeing someone who's usually quiet open up really hit me in the feels.

As my mother pointed out when we watched that episode, that dress that big mac wears is clearly in his size, so it doesn't belong to any of the other Apples, and he had the wig and the voice ready too

I remember watching this ep on TV. As soon as they started singing in the FIRST minute, I knew it was about to be special, because the first instance we have of a song starting the episode is the season 3 finale, which was, y'know, pretty big. Oh, and then we get a casual 4 more stacked on top. I knew what was coming as soon as it hit the 3rd song.

THESE ARE LITERALLY THE 2 BEST EPISODES BACK TO BACK!
I don't think they're animated so maybe not for a react video sadly (I'd still watch it even just listening to the music tbh), but two of my favorite fan songs are about the CMC -- the first, Crusader (Are We There Yet), is about their Crusader adventures throughout the show, and the sequel Here We Are is about this episode and them finally having their cutie marks! My favorite part is that the VA for Applebloom actually sang in Here We Are. They're both by BlackGryp0n if you were interesting in checking them out at all.

I feel like season 5 feels better because it centers more characters/interactions differently and I definitely started to really get into the show around s5 /6

This is one of my favourite episodes in the series.
Really good music, the CMC’s getting their cutie marks, and a new chapter in their story. (Now it’s gonna get fun for them!)
Btw Sweetie Belle lore, her cutie mark was originally supposed to be in music. (That was hinted in the episode where they did their punk rock performance at the talent show)

Fun fact: all the apple siblings share the same colors.
Yellow - applejacks hair and freckles, big mac’s hooves and freckles, and apple blooms body
Orange - applejack’s body, Big mac’s hair, And apple bloom’s eyes
Red - big mac’s body, apple bloom’s hair, and applejack’s cutie mark and hair tie (not sure if those count)
And partly green because applejack and Big Mac both have green eyes
These two episodes are definitely among my top 10 in the series and also part of the reason why I think season 5 was peak MLP.

A good episode followed by what I consider the best episode in the entire show, openings and finale's included. Not to mention a great reaction. Shame that you got spoiled but even after knowing what is going to happen crusaders of the lost mark remains the best episode in the series.
Don't worry though. The second best episode is yet to come. So you have plenty left to look forward to.

If you remember back in Season 3 they did the same thing, with first seeing Spike handling the pets as the Mane6 go off to the Crystal Empire and then we see the Mane6's adventure in the Crystal Empire. Well, ok, there is a bit of a debate on that one seeing as some airings spaced out those two episodes. Here, this is the order: The big sisters go on an adventure, and then we see the consequences of that.

This episode was pretty good, except for all the cringe in the middle... But that last scene, I realized what this was sort of going for. A little bit of a gender reversal, but I got the feeling of war soldiers with families. A father or brother, they've done their service, they build a family, the younger/st looks up to this "awesome guy who protects them"; a "super hero"! The downside is that they can be called at any minute and have to miss out on some kind of event in the kids' lives (school play, ball game, trip to disneyland, etc), and not knowing when the "hero" of the family will be back, if at all.

So, this episode... THIS EPISODE! OH MY SWEET CELESTIA was this episode an emotional rollercoaster! Good start, frustration, satisfaction, feeling unexpectedly sorry for somepony, worry, pride, sorrow, and crying happy tears. People lost their everything! With the number of musical numbers in this episode it was kind of hinting towards something big. People were actually predicting this was The Episode they'd finally get it, and were not... quite... disappointed. Some people were actually disappointed in how similar they were. They were hoping for something more unique rather than the CMC Shield for all of them. So lets review, shall we?
Scootaloo - her wings be buzzing lightning fast, even if she cannot fly. Some early art gave her a wheel with a lightning bolt.
Sweetie Belle - she was the one that starting humming the CMC theme when they were fixing up the tree house, and did most of the lyrics. Beautiful singer, but she did not want to sing in front of a crowd. Although there was this one dream she had of auditioning for singing.
Apple Bloom... Apple... Bloom... Blooming heart... Well, she was the one who founded the CMC in a way. "Now that we're all friends, how about we form a club? How about The Cutie Mark Crusaders!" She was also the one who had the heart to go after Diamond Tiara and forgive. Thus the heart in the apple; the heart of the club, and a big enough heart to forgive all that bullying.
I thought this was in season 7, I'm lost 😂

So bummed you were spoiled. This is one of those episodes that would have been infinitely times better if you hadn't known the outcome. 🥲 I was watching this show as the episodes were coming out, so it's almost like I didn't have the opportunity to be spoiled. Seeing this for the first time without knowing was SO HYPE.
That’s very true, but also, he most likely would have figured it out within the first minute of the episode because of how the episode basically spoils it for you by making the episode visibly and vocally spoilery. Seeing that it’s about the cms and starting the episode with a song, and seeing that the episode is a musical, I think anyone would have known. HATE that he was spoiled, but still, it’s Scoot
Something interesting, out of the comics: Big Mac, while being just "yep" and "nope" outside, has all the complex thoughts inside. So i imagine how he felt when Apple Bloom asked if AJ is the best apple ever.
These three becoming notable figures in their hometown. So happy for them. I LOVE the little detail of _Princess Luna_ showing up to see the photo. She was like their counselor in some parts so it made me so happy to see she was still invested in their cutie mark journey. I know why Celestia got the photo, given the CMC have also learned lessons, but Luna joining in added joy to my viewing experience.
They have a stronger bond than Twilight and her Friends.

Congrats once Scoot, For you have witnessed one of the greatest moments of the CMC's arc the episode where they finally got their cutie marks! So many people were so proud of the CMC's they finally fulfilled their series long goal, Though I can remember some people thinking that season 5 was far too early in the series for the CMC's to get their cutie marks, At least in terms of character development. But I love the episode I even loved that Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon finally reformed however they kinda just faded into the background after this episode.
As for "Brotherhooves Social" I found it to be both weird and kinda touching at the same time. Because on the one hoof seeing Big Mac dressed in drag like Bugs Bunny was weird, But on the other hoof it was really sweet that Big Mac just wanted to spend time with Apple Bloom and wanted her to look up to him again.
I do love how (almost) everyone instantly knew who Big Mac was and just thought "eh, I see the point. I guess we'll roll with it." It's a nice change from other cartoons where, even as bad as the male characters usually are at pretending, no one figures it out until the big reveal.
Man hiatus times really add to the suspense of plot lines. Being a fan of a show as it’s airing hits different.
That scene with Big Mac opening up to Apple Bloom has always been one of the most emotional scenes in the entire show for me TwT
(also so how do we tell him that was Diamond Tiara's last speaking role and meaningful role of the entire show? ._.)
And here it is..... First we have what could so easily have been a cringy attempt at "Haha, dude in a dress!" humor, that ended up being an amazingly sweet, wholesome look at a character who we rarely get to truly understand what they are thinking about. No one mocks Big Mac or laughs at him, or treats him at all odd for dressing and acting like a mare, and what jokes or "Seriously?" he gets are entirely of the "You know you aren't fooling us, right?" type. Then we get that amazingly heartfelt scene between him and Applebloom at the end and it is just.... *Chef's kiss*. Especially love how despite all this, at no point does he ever seem to resent Applejack for any of this, he loves her just as much as Applebloom does... he just, wants to feel appreciated now and then too. So dang great.
Then we have the big one.... hooves down one of only two contenders for "most beloved episode of the show". We finally see the end of one portion of the CMC's journey... in a way no one saw coming yet, is utterly brilliant. While also getting us to feel sorry for, understand, and ultimately cheer for Diamond Tiara of all Ponies. Yeah, one of the best episodes of the show.

OKOK HERES SOME FUN FACTS ABOUT EPISODE 18!
these are mainly about lyric changes in the songs and honestly in my opinion make the songs more meaningful. but some are just interesting
1. in Pony I want to be, she was originally supposed to say when it showed her cutie mark "I have this mark on my flank that I don't understand, I thought that I had it all the whole world my command. No matter how hard I try it just all feels the same. I wanna feel others joy and not just ashamed" and then goes back to the chours and its pretty much the same as the original from there.
2. in Light of your cutie mark (the chase song)
When diamond says "you don't understand the meaning of my fall. What my family would think if i ever fail at anything"
she was originally supposed to say "What my family will do"
3. In we'll make our mark (reprise/ the last song in the episode)
Rainbow dash was supposed to say "I'm so proud of you little sister" instead of "little buddy"

A lot of early demos of MLP songs were uploaded by a youtube channel called "MLP Music Demos"
Some of the demos are honestly better than the finals in the show.

Crusaders of the Lost Mark is easily among my top 5 favourite MLP episodes. I cried so much for them, especially when Applejack said their parents would be so proud of Applebloom. I'm tearing up just thinking about it. They worked so hard and they finally accomplished thir goal. I'm so happy and proud of them. I was so eager to se your reaction and it did not disappoint. YES!!! You've finally reached the most beloved CMC episode that is many people's top favorite! (including mine). Man, it's been a long journey for them. The way "Crusaders of the lost mark" was constructed is truly genius in so many ways.
Also, making it revolve around Diamond Tiara is the perfect choice because she was the main reason CMC made it their goal to look for cutie marks, and now she is the very pony who let them get them!
