Ooh a 360 in the Challenger. What you just did was DOUBLE the Challenger’s power.
Negs about ads are ignorant. Are you calling the any other forms of media sellouts for selling advertising? He should be compensated for his effort and entertainment value. If you don’t like it don’t watch.

Ugh!!! I just wanna power wash it so bad!
there is a little bit of car in your dirt
😂😂😂😂
Lol
That dirt is factory.
Burleon some tires in your mud
That's a good one 😂
I’m not a car person at all, but I do admire them as a piece of engineering. They’re such a common thing but they never get boring, everyone loves are car chase even though they’re in 90% of movies and tv shows. I’ve seen many old restoration videos of cars like this where they basically cut everything out of them and keep maybe the bottom of the chassis and replace everything else. This guy is doing everything he can to keep as much of the actual car as possible. All without glaring drum and bass music blasting throughout the video. Just the sound of a human trying to fix a piece of hardware, it’s just so satisfying to see.
Yes, so many UA-camrs think background music enhances their videos, when the opposite is true. We've got music apps for music, just talk and do, please!
Amazing he does that
Not a car guy? Go watch kitten videos.
Mark me down for definitely wanting to see what has the engine seized.
My money is on rings. Or rusted valve guides.
I bet it's stuck because of the way that it is.
Why not use the original motor and keep it a numbers matching resto?
@@ThePhillyfingers Economy of time and money. It would cost him time and money to tear down and free up the original 318. He has a 340 ready to go. By the looks of his channel, original is not really his thing. He is keeping the motor in case he changes his mind.
@@ThePhillyfingers Agreed. These cars are rare and way more rare with original number matching components. Easy mode with a junker swap is a shame to see when you can do it right with a rebuild. "Economically" shouldnt be factored in when taking in a project like this. Time and money should be expected to lost in great quantities on a pleasure project like this. Would like to see these revivals done with that in mind.
....but it's his car in the end. His video..our entertainment free of charge. I can appreciate that.
I absolutely love how instead of just drilling out the trunk lock, smashing the steering column, you took the time to take out the back seat, disassemble the steering column and do it right. Huge respect my man. I know it's a rare car and you have to save what you can, but I have seen so many lazy people in a hurry take the easy road and just start bashing.
Facts
It’s good to see young people like yourself working on the classics. Love the channel.
Is not a classic is a legend:)
Agreed
Can't wait to see how this build turns out!
I'm disappointed that you're not going to go through the original engine. It's such an unusual factory optioned car. Base V8, 3 speed trans. and no power accs. Maybe you'll reconsider? Sometimes these supposedly "stuck" engines break free with the heads removed and some gentle pounding with a dead-blow and a chunk of wood. While Hot Rods are fun and unusual, a rare car is only original once. Please think it over.
Or at least keep it stored!
Yes, u the man Chuck!
it might be 'unusual optioned', but it's the least desirable options. He's already got the patina body charger, so i'd like to see him do this one back to factory-fresh.
Evil Ash I mean factory fresh would be keeping it with the weird options haha.
I would agree, unless he has no intentions of totally restoring this to showroom condition. Right now everything matches. My 2 cents worth of keep it that way. It’s not like it was a Hemi.
5:11 the amount of poisonous spiders on the back of that seat man
I like his approach to take it easy, part by part for restoration and explaining everything while doing so.
Hey buddy be careful those are brown recluse spiders there. I Know those ones are dead but probably some live ones around too. Only thing wrong with your videos is there's not enough of them. Lol. Enjoy them very much. I'm a Ford man but also have a soft spot for old mopars too.
Brad Price
I love these too. I know they are hard work to do, but I could watch for hours. Beats the tube.
Naw, them wasn't brown recluses. Those are sac spiders, or southern house spiders. I'm from Florida, and we have them all over. Very frequently confused for the BR by folks.
Still it doesn't hurt to keep alert and use caution.
@@simeon2851 sure looks like them to me. Maybe I was wrong.
Everyone these days thinks everything is a brown recluse. No they are not. 90% of hospitals, clinics, and supposed experts (pest control) cannot identify a brown recluse. Stupid news media f'n with people for years with this retarded hysteria.
www.wired.com/2013/11/poor-misunderstood-brown-recluse/
spiderbytes.org/2015/06/08/how-to-tell-if-a-spider-is-not-a-brown-recluse/
Don't worry. Be happy. But do look out if you live in the states with the known populations of recluses.
2 people from the same house were bit by brown recluse about a mile from me in Michigan. I worked with them. They we're both out of work for about a week and when they came back they both had an "IV port" in their arm because they had to go to the hospital every day for the next week or 2 and have continuing IV treatments.
Nasty little F'ers!!!
I think I can smell the mice crap from here good times with old cars.keep it up💪
That 360 will shake the rust off that challenger
Nice archeological expedition on this old Challenger, looking forward to dropping that 360 in it.
said it before Dylan, but....sitting here sick and home from work....wife at work and kids in school . good i love these moments " with you " you make an awesome job - love to see how you spend some time with your " old " dad ...good i miss those times myself
I like how working on old cars can tell you small parts about its history, my ‘68 SIIA ex army Land Rover had “KR 87” written inside the radiator fan where it bolts back to the water pump. Back in ‘87 KR changed the water pump. This is why restoring old cars is cool!
Received my 2nd order of shirts and stickers this week, thank you!
The way you clearly carefully prepare and pack them is appreciated. You're a good guy, Dylan. I wear these shirts everywhere I can!
Probably swapping the engine was for the best anyway. That thing was dirty inside like no other and the replacement engine sounds great.
@9:57 - "check out what we can do now.....nice." Its the simple things that make us the happiest.
Outstanding stuff sir. My son and I watch your content and can't wait for more. Got 1969 Bee and at 67 440 Coronet. No Car like Mopar.
the sound of all the chunks of rust stuck inside the hood and trunk was pretty crazy,
Coldwarmotors has an interesting way to unstick motors in the Straight 8 challenge. Maybe you can get a hydraulic ram with a fitting that will fit the spark plug threads.
Coldwarmotors should have many more subscriber's. Especially since they have been making videos for years.
My dad was a challenger fan he owned in his youth, he passed away today and I came across your video. Thank you he would've loved this so much!
Sorry for you loss. May he Rest in Peace. Prayers for you, family and friends.
Being a Mopar guy, I subscribed when I found your videos a few mins ago.
And thanks for James 5:16!! I needed to read that today. 🙏🙏
Thanks Dylan!! - Joe V
Your editing is awesome on your way to the top on here brother
Congratulations you almost have 200000 subs good for you you deserve it

@@estonianperson1112 211k lol
The cool thing about this video is that it's simple. A passionate guy with simple tools not an advertising channel about someone who's bragging about how good they are...
I have really fond memories of my dad and I overhauling the 304 out of my 79 cj7. This reminds of that time, thank you.
Thanks for another entertaining video. It's been a very long time since I've watched one ot your shows because of recovering from a stroke. Keep up the great work young man. Itseems you've built quite a following, and sponsorship too! I'm still very much a fan of yours. All the best to you and yours.
I _hope_ that you're planning on keeping the external look of the car as close to stock as possible. I _LOVE_ classic muscle cars, I admit I prefer GM -vs- Mopar, but ANY classic muscle car is well worth restoring!
Thanks Dylan McCool's Dad! Awesome support of your son! Thanks Dylan McCool for great videos.
BTW - I look forward to finding out what happened to the original engine.
ALL NEW Abandoned Challenger Shirt Pre-order!
dylanmccool.bigcartel.com/product/abandoned-challenger-t-shirt-pre-order
Nice car. Id keep it original numbers matching. If possible.
Ha P.E.T.A will be filing a formal protest against Dylan for leaving all those rats homeless that were living under the back seat!!
I was just watching this video again and thinking even though it is rusty from sitting outside for 35 years it's awesome how this thing is basically unmolested like probably 99% of these cars have been by now. PO put him some chrome splash guards on the rear, changed the oil when it needed it, and took down a fence post/mailbox with the drivers door one Saturday night prob and parked it when it was about 10 years old. Also, ignore the ones complaining about all your different projects you've got going, this thing is what's gonna get the views and subs! Keep it up
I don't know what is more amazing: How much you know your way around, and have access to, such beautiful Chryslers, or the fact that you have one of the last three 1st gen Kia Sportages that still runs! LOL
I have a NOS ignition cylinder plus key that should work for this car. Still in the box. I won't charge a arm and a leg for it. I just really like this car lol
If you had commented before I got one I would've taken you up on the offer! Thanks 👍🏻
@@DylanMcCoolVideo put the 360 in it and use some gloves and a dusk mask! oh yeah paint it hemi orange!
Maybe a finger and a wrist? Or a knee cap and a skin graft for that cylinder?
We knew there was no way you were going back with a 318! Haha. Cant wait to watch this build play out Dylan. Good luck Buddy!
Man...brings back memories of me working on my 1973 Challenger. It ran but needed a bunch of TLC. I also had a 1971 Challenger that I rebuilt the motor on it. Just great cars and great memories.
It's shot, BUT we can fix it... BUT we aren't going too... LOL... Love the video...
I have been waiting for this video!!! I can't wait to see the progress!!
What an amazing find it's truly sad that cars like this that are basically abandoned by people with good intentions are simply rotting away.
Everyone now thinks that the car they've let sit in the elements for the last 30 years or more is worth a pot of gold.
318 with 340 Heads, Intake and Six Pack will make that car a beast or yes the 360 would be a good choice.
Sorry I'm one of those idiots who comments as I watch...LOL
I like this car, and I like your 460 block, you should consider making this car a full resto and dialing it in as it has potential.
Awesome job Dylan. Meticulous approach wins the race. Great vision. I’m seeing this video for the first time, all of them so I won’t skip forward. Thanks for the stoke! Budlight
A good video and an interesting car. Manual brake, manual steering with either a 3 speed or 4 speed, I didn't catch which it was. The rear defroster is not to uncommon as they were very popular back at that time. It was only a few years before they went to rear windshield electric wire defrosters. Sometimes with a low optioned car like this you will see a rear speaker with a fader switch on the dash. When you are missing a set of keys on old cars feel under the dash for a magnetic hide a key. I have found more than a few when keys were missing, again popular back at that time. Easy to figure out if the engine was numbers matching by the vin on the block. Same goes for the trans. The 360 is a great idea. Those are really good engines that get ignored. A lot of people want the stroked 318 or a 340. I have had a few 360's and they always impressed me. I like the car especially the purple interior. Cool stuff.
Him touching the paper with all those spiders right there gave me goosebumps and almost made me throw up
First Sponsor ad I ever encountered that I enjoyed😂...I fell for the shifting😅😅🥲
You don''t play around my brother! Outstanding video! LOVE your MoPar addiction. Got one myself. Thanks so much for your efforts, your genuineness and pleasant nature. You're a joy to watch!
I can’t believe you found all hubcaps
My gosh I’m this channel makes me so happy!
My Grandmother was a McCool. Lucille McCool married Earl Sarles and my Mother was their first of 8 children. That was in Mayville Michigan. We are probably related. I love old cars too and was a mechanic from 1972-1991. Now I like to work on motorcycles because all parts are smaller and I am upper 60's & not as energetic as I once was. Like watching this stuff you are doing.
One of the few channels I do not skip through!
Awesome work as usual . 👍🏻
Please rebuild the engine
If the car is in such a good shape stock you should keep it like that
Dr. McCool breathing new life into old Mopars!
Hey Dylan, big fan from Brazil here!!! I love your content, specially the Charger vids and now this beauty!! Keep up the great work!!
I really enjoy watching you keep busy with your hobby. The engine bay cleaning was really satisfying. Keep it up!
When you lifted the hood it sounded like an avalanche lol. Awesome vid bud keep it up
Maybe you ought to make that 318 into a 390 stroker!
Thanks for uploading, I'm really enjoying this series. Keep the videos coming!
Thats cool you to see the trunk open! I wanted to see what was in it but there was no quick easy way to get in it!!! haha Awesome progress man!! keep it up!! Super excited for the 360!!!!
I absolutely love the options on this car, gotta admit I'm pretty envious too. Been trying to get my hands on a rough old Challenger for a while. Sorry I haven't been commenting much lately, been a terrible combination of very busy and in bad health. Had to go to the hospital the other day because I was so weak and sick I could barely move. Turns out I have a really bad bleeding ulcer. I lost so much blood I almost needed a transfusion.
Get well soon buddy
I hope you're feeling better now!
@@DylanMcCoolVideo Thanks man, I'm doing much better now but still recovering. Gotta go back to have a camera stuffed down my neck soon.
@@samarthbhargava7945 Thank you very much!
Nice challenger man, cant wait to get my 70 going.
I'm so glad you decided to go with the 360. Nothing against the 318, I had one in my truck, but it's always more fun when you drop in a bigger engine :)
Dylan excellent progress on the Challenger! To bad it sat out for so long! A lot of rust repair in front of you but I am sure you will make it look good again. Looking forward to the next video!
A built 360 short block $500. WoW !! SCORE!!
I'm excited for you should be super McCool
426 stroker kit for the 360 would be the ultimate. Maybe a little pricey. I didn't know they existed until I seen it on Nicks garage channel. Ultimate chrysler small block
@@nbowling10trio Nick's garage is great channel could offer up some good info
Good price for the 360. I just bought a complete Pontiac 400 4 barrel engine for the same price. Maybe I should film while I'm digging into it.
Plz do sir 🙏🙏
@@bradleyjohnson2273 Oh, thank you. I didn't know there would be much interest.
If that original engine was still in that Dodge Challenger today, the original engine would’ve celebrated its 50th birthday!!!!
At the start of this video, Is praying Dylan understands the phrase "original engine" especially as you have the build sheet.
A tip: Remove/loosen that alternator belt before trying to spin the motor.
Why are you removing a hood by yourself?
ASMR - put up the underhood cleaning video at real-time speed. We motor heads love that stuff.
Hey man love that you're getting into that Challenger. I'd want to see the 360. But that's me. My wife's 71 Challenger is probably going to get a 318 until I make the 360 into a 408.
You deserve more subs
Thanks for the update video. Looking forward to more🤙
Love it!
Arctic Blue, three speed 318 just like my 71 Long box Dodge, and a rear defroster just like my former 74 Challenger.
I'm laughing so hard from that clip I actually thought he was driving😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Cars sold in New York State required a rear window defogger that may explain why this low option car had it. I like the 318 with the 3 speed stick. Does it have a foot operated pump on the floor for the windshield washers?
Curtis Fleabag The early Barracudas had a floor pump for the windshield wipers. It’s OEM, Mark Worman had one on Graveyard Cars.
Curtis Fleabag. I’ve seen this one from a restoration of a 1971 Barracuda. share.icloud.com/photos/0LkSFQBPwVc_3IGESqFL4C-1w
Sweet deal on the 360 engine 👍..I’m so glad you choose to do this build .. I’m really enjoying it .. always liked those cars can’t wait to see the next vid Dylan.. 😁
Hey Dylan I am really enjoying the videos. Sometimes I find going through the backing plates and loosening the adjuster wheel helpful when removing stubborn brake drums
"I even have a 360 I may con--" Yes.
Nice engine, it's almost a crying shame to bolt it to a 3 speed! ;)
I'm loving the progress! Keep up the great work!
6:17 "Spooky" 🤣 , i saw many years ago some animated show where the spider with big eye's did exactly the same face while peeking behind house radiator
Wear gloves bro.. Dont touch that mess with your bare hands
Some respirator or at least a cheap face mask would also be advisable... god knows what shit is lying there in the dirt invisibly...
@John Doe Which one? If you mean my profile pic, it's not, my Trabi is yellow.
Kerosene in the cylinders will break loose an engine
You can also use compressed air on your compression gauge extension to force the oil kero, atf, mmo etc mix into the cracks and crevices to help break things loose.
Diesel fuel will do the same
@@denmann364 Well diesel and kerosene are essentially the same
To be honest if I were to rebuild that 318 I'd turn it into a 330 stroker
Den Mann Yes sir. Diesel and transmission fluid mix will do wonders.
Wow! I really like watching your builds. I have a 1963 Lincoln Continental in the USA. I am out of the country right now. I was traveling the world. Covid 19 hit and I am in Thailand. No worries I love it here and it is super safe. Man I wish you would help me with my car. If I were there I would definitely send in my project.
Seeing 14 extensions always makes me smile.
Glad you're saving this car. I'm wondering if the cylinders on the 318 are rusted or grooved.
You can replace virtually any body panel and suspension and drive train part on these E bodies.
Really excited for this build. Thanks for sharing
Great series. I really enjoy your description of you progress. Keep up the good work.
Удачи тебе друг, смотрю твой канал, ты молодец
You just put Super Soul out of a job with that speaker. 🔊.😬
I’m learning a ton from your vids man, love your channel, thanks.
Most good locksmiths can take the trunk lock cylinder and cut a key for the vehicle. The trunk cylinder has most if all tumblers to match the vehicle
Good ol' mopar
U cant trust someone who is advertising technology and still has an iPhone 5
I'm happy to see that the Mustang is still around. I enjoy your channel and I came here from Junkyard Digs and Thunderhead289 so I'm a Ford guy like them but you do great work and I am happy to see these cars saved.
I'm always in awe of guys that really know their stuff.
"tiny radiator... but it did the job"
Every Chrysler product i've owned from the 70s had overheating issues with a stock motor and needed an upgraded radiator.
Most of chevys problems now 😂
Nice job
I could never do that in a million years
Dylan, I admire what you do with these old Mopars, but I do have a request for ya. Take one of them and do a complete restoration. I know it may take a while, but it just may be worth it.
Maybe a truck one day.
Lookin awesome man!! Love watchin some old fashion MOPAR love!!
