For transparency, I don't own more than a single one of 5 of these cards. 4 of them, I don't own any, and #5, I own 3 because I run the beast in multiple Commander decks :P I hate #mtgfailnance. Most of you know I hate it. You could look all over the internet and you won't find me selling any of these cards. Hopefully you can grab some before they go crazy.
What do you think of a reserved master. A gold bordered set not legal in any official tournaments. Just for those of us who want to run a tabernacle in commander without having to spend 2 grand.
That sounds like papering over the cracks that the reserve list has created in eternal formats. For some people it's not having access to reserve list staples for commander, but there are plenty of people where that same issue stops them from playing legacy or vintage. The funny thing is that the more buyouts of magic cards happen to reserve list cards, the closer these failnance fools push wotc to having to do something about it, be it officially abandon the format, alter the reserve list to re allow foil printings of reserve list cards, or toss the damned list into a fire.
I bought Anvil of Borgadan back when I was just starting to play magic because I thought it looked cool, and for three or four bucks I bought it. I had no clue until recently that it spiked over $10. Good to know!
While it's a little expensive for this list, I'd recommend grabbing your copy of Dream Halls if you need it for an EDH deck. It's 28 bucks right now and the effect is something they'll probably never do again.
Sheriff K I tried it once but it failed spectacularly in a 1v1 because I only got a huge board with muldrotha and my opponent immediately comboed. In a multiplayer game, if you don't win immediately, your chances of surviving until your next turn are slim.
I think most of the cards on the list should stay there and never get reprinted (IE The power 9) But remove the duel lands for karns sake. People do play commander you know.
sloth9669 it's a shame that 80% of players can't participate in half of the formats available. It isn't about budget. It's about getting new players into the game and maintaining a stable player base.
This "buy now, fear of missing out" is exactly the attitude that the speculators and finance shills are looking to impart on players. By playing into it in this video, it is indirectly rewarding this toxic behavior. We are all better served by walking away from this mess and letting them hold the bag.
Not under 20 for long. City of solitude and Thawing Glacier just spiked up to 30 each! Although it sucked for the people who didn't pick up a copy I think their spike was inevitable and this video just sped up the process. But great video Wedge! I always enjoy your content!
I remember discovering Scorched ruins 5 years ago, it seemed crazy that a card that makes 4 mana was dirt cheap. As a newbie back then I had no idea the reserved list existed, but my current self is very glad to have these awesome lands since back then
A great example of why the reserved list sucks: a bunch of cool cards that should be regularly reprinted favorites, but instead are liable to be overpriced and forgotten.
And all because a bunch of collectors were super butthurt about their cards being less valuable when they were reprinted. WotC still hasn't dug themselves out of the pockets of those people.
Wedge I would like to recommend that you keep doing at least 1 of these a month to keep bringing up awareness to the reserved list cards that are relatively cheap
I really wish they just reprinted the Reserve list with silver border, so casuals could play with them without ruining the demand for competitive play. Too many people are proxying the game bc they want to play at a casual level but don’t want to pay over two thousand dollars for a single commander deck
Weird thing. I won a five player edh game with yennett, cryptic sovereign. the deck was 48 bucks, with eight of it going to panharmonicon. the deck just wins or manages to stay in the game, and its under 50 bucks. there were some 75% decks at the table too. edh is fuckin nuts
Never understood the reserve list. I always saw it as a tool for investors & collectors to keep a stranglehold on popular & powerful cards which I get, but it hoses the player base. And while I feel there should be a balance so that all sides get what they want, I do feel it is a VERY tenuous balance for Wizards to attempt.
What you say is true, except there is no balance, it's heavily weighted towards the investors and the players and game suffer for it. It was created early in the games history after the release of Chronicles (look it up), in an attempt to protect the secondary market from collapsing after the great deal of whining to restore confidence and we have been suffering ever since.
I don't see why wizards should care about the people the reserve list effects. The people they need to keep happy are stores and players nothing else is really that relevant. As most people who want the reserve list aren't store owners. Now I'm not saying reprint power 9 or actual collectible cards that are iconic from the start of magic and don't see play anywhere. As most shops don't see much of a change from when cards they have are reprinted as if they have that many that they would be effected they weren't selling them at that price so it did them no good anyway. As i know a store that collects fetch lands and even with the reprints in masters and Khans block you know what he said pick them up while you can they aren't going to stay 10 15 dollars for long. He follows he own advice and buys them as well as he knows modern and commander players will pick them up. Stores only get effected if wotc floods a market which was the fear of hazort being printed in the challenger decks. Even that didn't even hurt the stores after all was said done. They were only slightly hurt by all the people who went to Wal-Mart and bought Wal-Mart. Though if a store sold it for a fair place to start with it didn't hurt their sales.
Welverin yes it was to protect the secondary market because the reprinting of the cards almost killed the game. The confidence was needed so people would buy the cards again thus saving the game.
Love the beard Wedge! And good video too, a lot of EDH players simply don't realise what affordable RL heavyweights exist out there to turbo charge their decks.
Yeah i've also definitely taken a notice to the sudden massive R-list buyouts happening, right around shortly before dominaria. Been buying up pretty much any r-list cards I know I will eventually need while I can. Was definitely an amazing decision as almost every card I bought a couple months ago has nearly doubled in value as of today
I might need to get a City of Solitude if Talrand becomes a mainstay in my commander group, haha! Great video! I honestly didn't know most of the cards on this list, and they're all pretty strong for the price tag!
A couple of weeks ago I entered a Legacy tournament at an LGS, nothing big, just the locals having fun with old cards for low stakes. Seeing as I have large gaps in my collecting mostly between Planar Chaos and BFZ, I'm missing some big hitters that I don't have the resources to play. For this reason, I played a modified Browse/Digger set-up. It didn't win, but it was hella fun busting out my Outposts and Glaciers.
Yeah, I've spent a lot of money magic this month for commander because of these dam buyouts. Great recommendations! Winding Canyons is still under 20 bucks, works nice against Rifts.
Good video. I've been wanting to get into rl cards but always thought they were to expensive and thought I missed out on most spikes. These all look great yo grab a couple of copies of and see if they go up in value
Not for long! Anvil of Bogardan combos best with Chains of Mephistopheles (a reserved list cart NOT under $20). edit: It's funny that Anvil and Teferi's Puzzle Box are from the same set.
Teen Shinobu Is best Waifu Buy one before someone else does if you’re so sure this is what will happen. Either you’ll make money or you don’t believe what you said.
sloth9669 that's ridiculous, why should I gamble my money on the reserved list? I don't speculate on cards to make money, the only speculation I do is to figure out how I can save money on cards I want to play with. I don't play the eternal formats so these cards have no value to me.
Thank you Wedge! Great video. Happy to pick these up before the trends continue. I think people are unrealistic about the abolishment of the reserved list and even more unrealistic about the future of the game if it goes away. New cards that break the rules of functional reprint are coming. We see some in Battlebond!
Hey Wedge! Great video! It's good to have you back :). It definitely is important to keep cards and their prices in mind when looking for Legacy, Vintage, Commander etc., so information is good. Keep up the great work!
I feel like it's important to talk about issues like these. Wizards is obviously aware that the reserved list is ultimately hurting the game the more they move forward, and they have shown signs of addressing it, with cards such as Starfield of Nyx and Growing Rites of Itlimoc to give players access to the effects cards on the reserve list have. I personally stand on the hill that the reserved list should be abolished, under the condition that tournament level play requires those cards. If the health of Vintage and Legacy isn't strong enough to support it, then at least unreserve the lands for commander players. I for one would love to draft vintage masters in paper.
All Wizards need to do is amend the reserve list so that functional reprints are allowed. Your investment won't plateau or disappear overnight and we get expensive cards in new product. Otherwise we can expect powersink to continue inexorably. Eventually, something has to give. You can't rareshift everything forever and hope the problem goes away.
I agree. I think functional reprints, or cards that are at least similar enough to reserved list cards, are the best solution to the problem. The collectors who are in it for nostalgia can still have their cake, and the people who just want to play the damn game can do it without having stacks of cash to spare.
This is a fun list of cards. I'm fortunately that I've got at least one copy of them (though my poor Rofellos doesn't get to see the Commander love). This is what I get for playing Commander... and continually building more decks. Speaking of which... time to work on a new deck...
Well at least I know to keep an eye out, and to dig up my Kjedorian Outpost I swear I have, also Shallow Grave is still under 20 I think, its basically Goryos Vengeance number two, good for highlander and cube and casual
I enjoy seeing this type of content, everyone hates on the RL but people ignored the sings for buyouts for years. like it or now, carts are getting snaped up and everything slowly ticking up.
I'm not a fan of MTG Finance either Wedge, but I have no problem with making this video. This is because your video is bringing it mostly to the attention of PLAYERS who want these cards to PLAY with them. There's enough videos and content out there aimed at MTG finance types so they'll be buying it anyway. Best to warn players to get in while they can before speculators drive prices up anyway.
Funny to watch this a year later and look at all the cards on mttgoldfish. They all spike right after video and have slid down ever since. I bet a lot of timmy's lost their shirts.
What's with the mental difference between Europe and USA prices I know exchange rate is something but there's some big differences with some of those cards
Yea I was thinking mainly all the cards in the video, but there are some that are over 20 before the video even released. I don't think Karn and Ertai will spike aggressively, but the lands most definitely will
I think I'm on to your Master Plan, Wedge. Spike all of these prices for paper cards, which will drive people to play Magic Online, where the prices for these cards are still affordable (As of me writing this, Peacekeeper was now $50 dollars in paper, less than a dollar for Magic Online).
Chas Carpenter When a card is on the "reserved list," it means that Wizards of the Coast has vowed never to reprint that card... well, sort of. As Wedge mentioned, some reserved list cards have been reprinted in the From the Vault series of premium products. But the vast majority of them have not, because Wizards wants to keep the investors (people who spent hundreds and thousands of dollars investing in old cards) happy.
Feels bad that nearly every card on this list recently spiked. What feels worse is looking at cars prices from around Return to Ravnica (2012 timeframe) and realising I should have built 100 decks and saved TONS of money back then. Good grief!
philip Basically a bunch of old cards that will never be printed again, because Wizards of the Coast was bullied into a promise not to by people who wanted those cards to stay expensive.
I approve of this video. Personally I won't be buying any of these cards because I dont have a need for any of them (don't like to invest much into commander and i'm not building another legacy deck for awhile) but there are plenty of commander players who are screwed out of cards they want for their decks and this helps prevent them from getting burned by a buyout
Atmapalazzo I want a Ferrari but can’t afford one. Would you say I got screwed out of it or simply say I can’t afford it. I drive a Ford because it’s what I can pay for and my edh deck has tap lands because I can’t afford duals. It’s how life works.
Honestly as a person who doesn't play edh I don't really care about most of these, however with that being said I'll probably pick some of these up so I can sell or trade them later, also yes it was entertaining
Not to mention tcgplayer doesn't much care for the price spikes. As it tends to mean less cards are sold. They prefer fast seller just like most stores. Unless you are a person who just bottlenecks cards a business is better of just flipping quick for profit. Sitting on 9 black lotus is cool and all but good luck getting their value anytime soon. It's why most stores push standard and modern the cards sell faster as meta shifts. As ussualy cards don't stay above 20 dollars for long unless they are the busted card of the moment looking at you karn, scarab, and haz to name a few that were or are $$$ even with how circulation and turn over rates. So tcgplayer will be happy that a bunch of these cards just got bought but it is unlikely that they care to much beyond oh we got an extra 300 dollars moving on. I just know this because I am good friends with a lot of store owners and one of them sells a ton with tcgplayer.
For transparency, I don't own more than a single one of 5 of these cards. 4 of them, I don't own any, and #5, I own 3 because I run the beast in multiple Commander decks :P
I hate #mtgfailnance. Most of you know I hate it. You could look all over the internet and you won't find me selling any of these cards. Hopefully you can grab some before they go crazy.
Should probably pin this or add it to your description.
What do you think of a reserved master. A gold bordered set not legal in any official tournaments. Just for those of us who want to run a tabernacle in commander without having to spend 2 grand.

It's decent in Muldrotha EDH.
Theres some cheaper copies on tcgplayer.

I’m bracing for impact.
TheManaSource boi people are gunna think you got a ton of these cards and you are trying to spike prices :(
TheManaSource good video,, but you owe us a worst cards video for torturing us with the reserved list 😁😉😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
TheManaSource at least wait for me to buy them out jeez.
F*ck the completely outdated concept of the reserve list.
That is all.
I think most of the cards on the list should stay there and never get reprinted (IE The power 9) But remove the duel lands for karns sake. People do play commander you know.
I support this content. It brings attention to mtg's biggest problem: cost to play.
Brady Seigfried play to your budget and your concern will never be an issue.
sloth9669 it's a shame that 80% of players can't participate in half of the formats available. It isn't about budget. It's about getting new players into the game and maintaining a stable player base.
I'm actually happy after seeing this video, i forgot about some of these cards so yeah great. I dont care if my playgroup doesnt agree
This "buy now, fear of missing out" is exactly the attitude that the speculators and finance shills are looking to impart on players. By playing into it in this video, it is indirectly rewarding this toxic behavior. We are all better served by walking away from this mess and letting them hold the bag.
Exactly, it's bait and it's why this video is a stupid subject.
The bitter Irony of this video is that the prices of the cards you discuss in this video instantly spike in price
Not under 20 for long. City of solitude and Thawing Glacier just spiked up to 30 each!
Although it sucked for the people who didn't pick up a copy I think their spike was inevitable and this video just sped up the process.
But great video Wedge! I always enjoy your content!

And all because a bunch of collectors were super butthurt about their cards being less valuable when they were reprinted. WotC still hasn't dug themselves out of the pockets of those people.
The real. Clearly you were not around for chronicles and what it did to the game. The reserve list saved the game and reprints is what was killing it.
Wedge I would like to recommend that you keep doing at least 1 of these a month to keep bringing up awareness to the reserved list cards that are relatively cheap
this seems like it's a self-defeating video if you're sharing this with your audience and the jokers who are doing all the buy-outs do just that.
I really wish they just reprinted the Reserve list with silver border, so casuals could play with them without ruining the demand for competitive play. Scorched Ruins doesn't go into it's owners hand if you don't sack the 2 lands, it goes into the graveyard.

Why are you telling me that?
Thank you, Theros block, for making me buy a foil Opalescene in 2014 for 9.35. for my pantheon commander deck.
Love the beard Wedge! And good video too, a lot of EDH players simply don't realise what affordable RL heavyweights exist out there to turbo charge their decks.
Thawing glaciers was just bought out on ebay, didn't take long for that.
You were right, this video was a bad idea. Now none of these cards will be under 20 a month from now, except maybe rofellos.
Squandered resources has been one of the best cards in my muldrotha deck with all the fetches i run. Seriously underestimated
honorable mentions: Hall of Gemstone, Zirilan of the Claw, Null Chamber, Rainbow Vale, Koskum Falls and Harbinger of Night
Funny how one of Peacekeeper's best applications is alongside Alesha, who's not exactly a peacekeepery character.
Just realized this is two years old. Curious what the cards are at now.......
I hadn't even known that Dream Halls was reserved list until it shot up in price recently due to Muldrotha Got it at 5€, so that's neat.
Wedge, it’s fantastic to see you looking much better physically and emotionally! Thanks for the great content!
I might need to get a City of Solitude if Talrand becomes a mainstay in my commander group, haha! Great video! I honestly didn't know most of the cards on this list, and they're all pretty strong for the price tag!
How about a Top 10 Worst Reserved List Cards under $20?
Grave Robber
Pygmy Hippo
A couple of weeks ago I entered a Legacy tournament at an LGS, nothing big, just the locals having fun with old cards for low stakes. Seeing as I have large gaps in my collecting mostly between Planar Chaos and BFZ, I'm missing some big hitters that I don't have the resources to play. For this reason, I played a modified Browse/Digger set-up. It didn't win, but it was hella fun busting out my Outposts and Glaciers.
I just bought four Gustha's Scepter for a spicy hollow one brew for legacy this morning! Video is cool!
Yeah, I've spent a lot of money magic this month for commander because of these dam buyouts. Great recommendations! Winding Canyons is still under 20 bucks, works nice against Rifts.
Felidar Sovereign wins come pretty easy with Winding Canyons.
Somewhere, creepy Rudy's taco went crisp.
now all these cards will be bought out... yay reserved list buyouts.
I picked up two a while back. One for a commander deck and one for an Avegners themed Deck to be Doctor Strange
Thank you Wedge! Great video. Happy to pick these up before the trends continue. I think people are unrealistic about the abolishment of the reserved list and even more unrealistic about the future of the game if it goes away. New cards that break the rules of functional reprint are coming. We see some in Battlebond!
No conch horn or soldevi excavations?
What’s your opinion of investing in Japanese RL cards, especially on some where the supply is basically inexistent?
Hey Wedge! Great video! It's good to have you back :). It definitely is important to keep cards and their prices in mind when looking for Legacy, Vintage, Commander etc., so information is good. Keep up the great work!
And when you do your next deck tech can you do it over a red blue Jhori, Weatherlight Caption deck.
I heard you say thawing glaciers and said, "hell yeah it is" immediately.
It is great to have you back
I feel like it's important to talk about issues like these.
I own a copy or two of a fair number of these. I might have to get a few more that seem like fun Commander cards.
Promised myself I wouldn’t buy any more cards this month yet here I am ordering a Scorched Ruins for my Jhoira of the Ghitu deck, thanks wedge 😒
RoninTraveller Did the exact same thing but for my Karn, Silver Golem deck. Which already has a few reserve list cards.
Matt Born Glad I did now as gone up from $13 to $18 since this video!!
All Wizards need to do is amend the reserve list so that functional reprints are allowed.
Your investment won't plateau or disappear overnight and we get expensive cards in new product.
Otherwise we can expect powersink to continue inexorably.

I actually cracked Peacekeeper out of a pack last year that I bought. This whole time I didn't know that I was a rare OR on the reserve list!!!
Good video! Keep it up!
Wedge you are looking great, love the videos. Keep it up!!
Love the transparency of this video keep up the good work wedge we love you dude
This is a fun list of cards. I'm fortunately that I've got at least one copy of them (though my poor Rofellos doesn't get to see the Commander love). This is what I get for playing Commander... and continually building more decks. Speaking of which... time to work on a new deck...
The Reserve List is a problem? Didn't it save Magic? Why, we wouldn't even be talking about the RL right now if wasn't for the RL in the first place!
"I don't know UA-cam sucks" lol I nearly died laughing, love the salt Wedge!
the link of the cards didn't worked pls fix it
Hey your link doesn’t work, might want to fix that just to let you know.
Erati plus arcane lab was a deck I did that really ticked off my friends way back then
Rofellos is on the reserved list? I had no idea. I run two of him in my legacy green ramp/stompy deck.
The good thing about casual commander is we can fight expensive cards with one thing...proxies.
DFW I got Scorched Ruins a month before Blood Sun was spoiled.. FeelsGoodMan.
Well at least I know to keep an eye out, and to dig up my Kjedorian Outpost I swear I have, also Shallow Grave is still under 20 I think, its basically Goryos Vengeance number two, good for highlander and cube and casual
Also hall of gemstones is a solid pick up right now.
I enjoy seeing this type of content, everyone hates on the RL but people ignored the sings for buyouts for years. like it or now, carts are getting snaped up and everything slowly ticking up.
Top 10 reservedlist cards which will have a buyout by tomorrow
nice.. thawing glacier could be a repeatable shuffle as well
Damn. I need to pick some of these up....especially that Rofellos fellow.
I find mtg finance really interesting despite the hate it receives. Thanks for putting your own spin on things Wedge!
This video is amazing! Thank you.
isn't opalescence just a worse starfield of nyx that was only good with the leylines?
I'm not a fan of MTG Finance either Wedge, but I have no problem with making this video. This is because your video is bringing it mostly to the attention of PLAYERS who want these cards to PLAY with them. There's enough videos and content out there aimed at MTG finance types so they'll be buying it anyway. Best to warn players to get in while they can before speculators drive prices up anyway.
Funny to watch this a year later and look at all the cards on mttgoldfish. They all spike right after video and have slid down ever since. I bet a lot of timmy's lost their shirts.
Copy Artifact is my favorite budget RL card. Card is so good.
What's with the mental difference between Europe and USA prices I know exchange rate is something but there's some big differences with some of those cards
I only own one card that's on the reserved list and that's Radiant, Archangel because Angels.
Jared Sardella some cards on the list are a quarter. Like any other card if it sees play the price goes up.
This video will be outdated within a month
jzreo I am betting on 48 hours
Peacekeeper is already $50
Yea I was thinking mainly all the cards in the video, but there are some that are over 20 before the video even released. I don't think Karn and Ertai will spike aggressively, but the lands most definitely will
A month? I'm guessing there's going to be a price spike within a few days of this coming out as people get on the bandwagon.
Ha thawing glaciers is about 40 now
I think I'm on to your Master Plan, Wedge. Spike all of these prices for paper cards, which will drive people to play Magic Online, where the prices for these cards are still affordable (As of me writing this, Peacekeeper was now $50 dollars in paper, less than a dollar for Magic Online).
Stupid question... You mention that these cards can't be reprinted...why is that? And how do you know when a card can't be reprinted?
Chas Carpenter When a card is on the "reserved list," it means that Wizards of the Coast has vowed never to reprint that card... well, sort of.
As Wedge mentioned, some reserved list cards have been reprinted in the From the Vault series of premium products. But the vast majority of them have not, because Wizards wants to keep the investors (people who spent hundreds and thousands of dollars investing in old cards) happy.
I bought the number one card a while back for pennies. Nice to see the spike.
Took me a while to understand that skipping your discard step is like having no maximum hand size, Old text IS weird on magic cards
Cool idea and nice cards
Feels bad that nearly every card on this list recently spiked.
What feels worse is looking at cars prices from around Return to Ravnica (2012 timeframe) and realising I should have built 100 decks and saved TONS of money back then. Good grief!
What is that thing called reserved list ?
philip Basically a bunch of old cards that will never be printed again, because Wizards of the Coast was bullied into a promise not to by people who wanted those cards to stay expensive.
Hey so about Peacekeeper...
Thawing Glaciers coming into play tapped doesn't make it the slowest mana filter ever? :V
I bought a copy of Opalescence for my Karametra Commander deck... little did I know that it was a reserved list card. TIL I guess.
Now I have to go through all my old bulk a lot of those look very familiar😕
This list is irrelevant the moment you release it. These cards are going to skyrocket due to speculators, even if they suck.
Dang. Didn't realize my foil Rofellos was worth this much.
Confirmed. Wedge selling his soul out to the speculator cabal to price spike these cards.
I'm such a shill to #mtgfailnance!
Link doesnt work to the cards
I approve of this video. Personally I won't be buying any of these cards because I dont have a need for any of them (don't like to invest much into commander and i'm not building another legacy deck for awhile) but there are plenty of commander players who are screwed out of cards they want for their decks and this helps prevent them from getting burned by a buyout
Atmapalazzo I want a Ferrari but can’t afford one. Would you say I got screwed out of it or simply say I can’t afford it. I drive a Ford because it’s what I can pay for and my edh deck has tap lands because I can’t afford duals. It’s how life works.
what?
Atmapalazzo No one got screwed out of anything.
Honestly as a person who doesn't play edh I don't really care about most of these, however with that being said I'll probably pick some of these up so I can sell or trade them later, also yes it was entertaining
While this is great and all....when are you going to finish the guild color combination videos?
yeahh...Peacekeeper spiked like crazy.
audio is kinda low in your videos
Even with the sponsorship being very transparent, it feels weird having a "buy these spikable cards" video with a website looking to sell said cards
I don't get commission. Just a video idea I had so I made it.
Yyyyeah. Videos like this just make the cards spike higher. Just saying.
Oh man that's clever to capitalize on the massive buyouts props my man
There is nothing wrong in making this video
