I watched your chuwi aerobook and teclast f7 plus reviews last year, and finally I settled for F7 plus due to its price is far cheaper; however I felt perhaps Chuwi might be a better choice for user experience.

    1. It's good to know that it's a BOE panel, we need competition to the existing market dominators, but... Is it IPS? It kind of looks like IPS, since it doesn't have any distortion when shot from the side.
    2. Glossy isn't bad. It's actually better and superior. Part of the reason why extremely expensive laptops and monitors and pretty much all Macbooks are glossy - is because glossy doesn't mess up yours colors. Anything that wants to market itself as ANYWHERE near color-accurate - needs a glossy panel by defintion.
Matte screens are a modern, cheap solution for viewing things in the conditions that aren't meant to be viewed in. They are sometimes compensated by extremely good panels, up to Oled, but... generally Matte stuff doesn't advertise itself as professional or color-accurate. It can advertise the shit out of HDR, not that anyone gives a damn, but if anything wants to be "10-bit" or "color-accurate" - it's glossy-only.
It's clear that Chuwi wants to turn this thing into a poor man's MacBook PrOld or a cheaper Surface, maybe a more stable choice than a refurbished\second-hand version of these two ultrabooks, which is why it went Glossy.
    3. Chris... I know it's nitpicking, but... Do not. ever. look. period at the turbo clocks of any CPU, particularly Intel. Their 2019... or 2018 8-core in a Macbook with "4.5ghz+" boost resulted in... quite a bonfire... in all senses, including a media coverage one. Let's say that it struggled to sustain anything past 3ghz.
And, yes, I know that there is a difference between 2C and 8C, but... if this "elegant chip from a less civilized age" can sustain 3.5ghz... Then that's it. That's pretty much the efficiency roof of Intel 14nm, no matter the generation.
And... no. It's not "plus-plus" improved. The page you are viewing as you say this - clearly shows Q32015. That's... that's their first 14nm generation. Well, maybe a second one, first being a rather obscure Broadwell, but for most consumer-related things - this is where 14nm began.
This isn't 14nm+ Kaby Lake. This isn't 14nm++ Coffee Lake. This isn't 14nm++++++++++ Coffee Lake 2019. And, thank goodness, it's not 14nm++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Vomit Lake 2020.
And it clearly isn't their current 10nm laptop disaster.
    But it still sucks.
    4. "Shot on Galaxy Note 4". And that's still a better quality than what Chuwi used to shoot the advertisement for this "4k 100% sRGB" laptop. Lol.
    5. And yet Chuwi advertises it for editors. When it can't even view 4k content reliably. I guess QuickSync does miracles?
And good lord, that fan noise...
Overall... it looks like Chuwi sourced a batch of unsold Skylake processors at pennies on a dollar(probably the same place they source their incessant Gemini Lakes shits), and they have decided to use local cheaper BOE panel to put together this... 4k marketing joke.
I'm not sure any professional editor would go cheap on their hardware(unless they are from financially terrorized countries, but... I think even there professionals have better options), so, without this "4k" screen - there isn't really much going for this laptop. At all.
No mic, no webcam, maybe just better-than-worst audio. Maybe if all you want is viewing stuff with the highest quality... this 4k panel is indeed the cheapest you can get(IF it's IPS), but... I'd be more interested in a ~300$ transformer improvements with 1080p IPS.
And if anyone wants any kind of performance - just buy Zen laptops. Seriously. It's 2020, there's even Renoir inbound(though for 500$ you may only get lowest-binned 6C).
Intel did kind of catch up in GPU performance... and got a slight headstart in CPU performance with their 10nm parts, but they start at 700$ for i5. And while it is competitive until Renoir rolls out, below 700$ it's Zen-only zone, and once Renoir is out - even 10nm Ice Lake will be EoL.
Not as EoL as this Skylake chip though...

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  4 роки тому +2

Good points. Matte is a bit more practical but yes for the accuracy. Well in my defense I said it's not 14nm+ or 14nm++++++ I was actually having a wee go at Intel there. I would love to see some new Ryzen laptops from brands like Chuwi

I like the build quality and its sleek design, that's definitely one of their strengths now but for that price here in Germany I can get a Lenovo with the latest ryzen 4500U for just 500 euros or a matebook D for 550.
That 4k screen doesn't make any sense with that CPU, they should've put a FHD one in order to lower the price, it just can't really compete in that price range unless it gets a much better CPU.
Also really disappointed with that Linux support, that's usually why I buy these kind of laptop as a second machine.

The manufacturer usually put less power comsumption and less heat SoC.. So they can put so small heat sphreader and super thin battery to keep the body slim and light..
But the gaming oriented notebook is designed to make super fast as hell altough it can consumes more power and more heat.. It can be accomodate by the thickness of the body because manufacturer put larger battery inside and large heat sphread and fan.. So the overal weight is increased much..
Same as smartphone now. Gaming oriented phone has thicker body to accomodate larger battery and heat sphread. If u use thin smartphone for heavy mobile gaming, the temperature of the phone will increase fast and the battery indicator will drain fast too because of less heat sphread and less battery.

What a shame, bad timing from the Chuwi guys. It seemed like a great idea but it´s an old cpu and the market is changing. With the new Ryzen mobile 4th gen coming strong, and the Intel 8º and Ryzen 3-2º gens getting cheaper cause they are older, I don´t see the market for this anymore. Ideapad 5, Swift 3 and 5, Hp Envy and some others getting cheaper and nicer... Also, they (Chuwi) had some troubles with refunds and some issues with battery and some other stuff breaking. Also, great review! Nice job mate.

This laptop is really a mix bag for me. Around 500€ in EU you have a lot of very good options. With more modern CPU, local keyboards (some language cannot use standard QWERTY, like French for instance, we need specific symbols and it is painful without French layout )... But around 500€ there are not a lot of option with a 4K panel. So this laptop has some cards to play. Need a cheap 4k laptop, and not too much horse power? This could be an option. Unfortunately, the Linux community can not have it yet... Pity, I think for coding, development etc... This would have been a suitable option, and Linux is amazing for developing into Python (and many other languages!)

Like any of your reviews or all your reviews, it's just perfect. The answer to the question "should you buy?" it's actually very simple, for me at least. NO ONE should buy Chuwi devices!!! Despite the good build quality, design, performance, and value or the money, Chuwi is very bad in customer service, warranty and after sale support.
Two years ago I purchased a CoreBook by backing it on Indigogo and last year one more Lapbook SE, so I'm not an enemy of the brand.
Everything changed when the cover keyboard o the CoreBook started malfunctioning, several keys don't work anymore. After contacting Chuwi I've been told the following: 24 months warranty is for the tablet-pc alone; keyboard is only 3 months covered. Repair is out o the question as well as buying a new one since don't have it anymore. No whatsoever proposal or support in solving the issue, except "you can connect an external keyboard via BT". Basically f!?k myself and throw 500 USD it in the trash after not even 2 years of using the device.

Good review as always. However, they should have gone with a 7th Gen Kaby Lake dual core cpu which has an upgraded GPU with hardware HVEC decoding and supports Netflix streaming at 4K. Although it has powerful IrisPro graphics, 6th gen lacks the full hardware decoding and not supported by Netflix for 4K decoding.

    • @ragilmalik

dual core in 2020..... interesting why anyone would buy that. quad core albeit weaker celeron would be a better pick to handle background processes while doing some tasks. Well, we now have ryzen so even intel in the first place is not a good investment

    • @123Suryasis
      @123Suryasis 4 роки тому

@@ragilmalik No, Celeron will not be better. They are quad core for sure but they don't use the same architecture which Skylake uses. They borrow some features but that's it. This will be far faster than laptops with Celeron N5000. I do have a ZenBook with i7-5500u and a laptop with N4100..
BOTH with 8gb ram and the performance in ZenBook is way Way better.

Better use AMD Ryzen for cutting the price and 4K panel on 15.6 inch is overkill. Just use panel a little bit higher resolution than Full HD.
4K resolution but using super old gen CPU is bad decision because it will have some lag.

I have been looking for a full review for this laptop for a few weeks now, great review though I'd have liked to see you trying another linux distro or two after mint failed, just for good measure.
The 4K display is of course a waste as they could have used a 3K or even a 2K, and use the savings for a 4 core CPU, even if it's still 6gen intel.
I was considering this laptop as a possible purchase but it just doesn't make sense anymore, especially when you can get a secondhand thinkpad for about the same price, with a much better built quality. let alone a much better performing CPU with about the same built quality.
