  • In this bonus episode of Basic Nigerian History, Dr Catel explores the ancient civilisation known as the Nok Culture found in what is now central/northern Nigeria. He also mentions some Nok sculptures, going as far as to name drop the famous Killmonger from black panther.
BNH is going to be like a crash course on Nigerian history, but along the way will also touch on other parts of west african history.

I learned the GBAGYI popularly known as GWARIS belonged to NOK origin. From these info I can tell the reason for their silence as Gbagyis are known to be peace loving people and the only tribe in Nigeria that has never gone to war we are known for our remarkable art in pottery. We don’t adopt other people’s culture hence our 0 popularity. LADI KWALI is a great reference (the lady on the #20 naira note in Nigeria currency). The greatest potter of all time.

1 needs to research deep into the spiritual traditions of the Yoruba and Benin peoples. Trust me the answers can only be unravelled and results are life changing

A lot of these were stolen I heard. They shouldn't be selling around the world as they belong to Africa (Nigeria). There is a video of a auction at Christie's selling a Benin bronze head for £ 1.2 million in the early 90's. Adjusted for inflation that's about £ 3 Million.

Yep... There are loads hidden also hidden away in the basements of European museums, along with the human remains of Africans. Check the Sarr Savoy report on the restitution of African artefacts and the book Who Owns History

The children of today are the Future! If we start now to let them know the TRUTH, in the near future, we will surely have a more knowledgeable and less confused Nation😉👌🏿

The people of ancient Nok are not the same as those that live there presently. That's why they say the Nok culture disappeared. The ancient Nok culture are ancestors of the Yoruba.
