Thanks man! I really love your videos! I just started a daily vlog but I don't have a lot of experience with cameras or film making so I got a Gopro 9 just to focus on getting my mind wrapped around the story telling aspect of a daily vlog--- how to keep it interesting and such. This video really helped me out!
I've used the Gopro 9 for about 3 months now and have made about 20 videos. Now that I feel like I have the editing, daily vlog work flow and basic videography under my belt with the Gopro 9, I think that I'm ready to move onto a more serious camera! BUT I highly recommend the Gopro 9 for anyone looking to get their toes wet before they jump into the ocean that is VLOGGING.

There are 3 movies on my channel make with gopro9. I,m beginner. As you said in one of your vlogs. It does not matter if you have a smartphone, camera or gopro, it is important to go outside and start filming. And that's true🙂🇵🇱

Just a little FYI, EV Comp stands for Exposure Value Compensation rather than Composition. It’s meant to compensate for when you have a scene with something like lots of snow. The camera will try to get an average across the bord at a middle-grey in terms of light value so you get the most useful exposure, but when you have snow (just for a simple example, but could be sand in the sun, or if you’re shooting in the shade with a really bright background as other examples) the camera tries to make the snow look grey which drops your exposure. You turn up the EV Comp because snow is meant to look white, not grey, and because if you don’t, your subject will look too dark. This could go the other way too, like where you’ve got a dark background but you’re properly lit up, so the camera tries to balance the dark background upwards so you can see more detail in the shadow, but then your subject winds up too bright looking in the video output.

Thank you for posting a link to Chamonix. Such a beautiful place. I love snow but my experience has been limited to the American Rockies in winter plus one day each in New Zealand and Mt Kosciusko. I am very impressed with how well the GoPro deals with snow. I know it is part of their “thing” but lots of shades of white is not the easiest of subjects for any camera.
I agree, the whites can be really difficult. Taking pictures on the song of the same subject, with a few slight tweaks of the aperture or shutter the whites can look drastically different so it’s encouraging, especially for the vlogs💫🙌🏽 & as for Chamonix, it’s trés Jolie, you must visit one day if you can

So overall, would you say the best vlog settings would be 4k24 - 4k30, Wide or Linear lens depending on material, ISO Max 400-800, and Shutter + WB set to auto?

Great video. Thanks for sharing. I wanted to see how you created the smooth drone shots of the mountains. Did you fly the drone that slow to get that cinematic look or did you fly normal speed and slow it down in post? I use Adobe Premier Pro for editing and can’t seem to figure out if I should fly slow and at what speed, or if I fly normal a d the. Slow it down in post. I also fly in d log. jake! did you need to have some sort of cover for the hero 9 in the snow? for the battery draining becasue of the cold? or did it work perfectly fine?

My gopro hero 9 night footage while walling comes out to be very shaky. Can you suggest some settings to avoid that shakiness while walking at night?

Cool stuff as always Jake🙏! This video was really informative and entertaining, especially your falls😇😂 How is your experience with skin tones and over-sharpening with the gopro 9? I have noticed that with my 8 it can make the skin look really messed up under certain circumstances.
I have sometimes seen this problem, especially when added contrast in post, basically crushing all the dynamic range in the shot. But for the most, I'm not colour grading gopro footage for these vlogs, just letting the camera do it's thing and it's looking alright :)
I would like to buy go pro 9 hero but I have 0 knowledge what to considerate in buying one. How big is the sd card you use to make the whole trip video? Lets say, if its a 1 week-trip, does it mean I have to bring more than 1 sd card? Thank you for a very nice video tho!

Hi, I have shot my first moto-vlog on Gorpro 9, and all the shots are 4K, however the video size of all the shots are easily more than 1 GB. I don’t have much space on my ipad, since my cloud has just a few GBs of space left. So then, because of that I would not be able to export all the 4K GoPro videos to my ipad, without which I cannot have the complete time on my LumaFusion to be able to do edit the videos. I am looking to edited complete video to by UA-cam channel. Could you please let me know if I can compress file by file and delete the original file from the ipad, so that I can free up space.

Thanks for this video. I’m having terrible audio problems with GoPro, so much so that I definitely feel like I can’t use this Hero 9 camera for vlogging. Audio cracks, pops and sounds muffled :( I am so disappointed.

Since cameras try to expose to middle Grey, thats probably why you had to adjust EV to +1 in the white snow. Without snow a lot of times -0.5 is ideal so you don't blow out highlights. Did you do any post video processing (color grading, etc)? I'm thinking that when using gopro color that color grading isn't really necessary. Would you agree?
No colour grading at all to the gopro footage in this vlog, and yes I agree, using gopro colour everything looks pretty good :)

No, just the GoPro
go pros and action cameras in general are good for videos and blogging but they are not built to last a long time. I've had the hero 11 and it lasted me only less than 2 years which is disappointing. but if you buy mirrorless cameras like lumix gh5 or canon r series cameras, they can last you several years and the video qualities are top tier.
