One of the main reason tickets are so expensive is that it's the way artists earn money now. Since all music is available for free (or basically free) via UA-cam, Spotify (etc), artists don't earn royalties like they used to. Merch and tickets are the income stream.
I agree that the buying process has become insane, especially for big names like Swift, Beyonce, etc. The artists are not to blame for this, of course. It is what it is.
And, FYI, people have always acted a fool at shows--at least since I started going in the late 80's. They are drunk, high and having fun. Fun is different things to different people. It can be extremely irritating.

Something I’ve noticed a lot lately has been really poor concert etiquette during openers! Even if you aren’t interested in an opening act, there’s always been an understanding that performers are to be respected in venues! I'm always excited to hear them and try to pay attention and hype them up, because even if the music isn't my thing, that doesn't mean I want them to feel discouraged. one of the aspects of “new” concert behaviour that tends to give me anxiety when going to shows is how comfortable people are with filming others and putting them online (esp. on tiktok) 😭 as a plus sized woman with a limited, mostly plain black wardrobe, being filmed and put in a video that’s meant to “analyse how x city dressed for a show” (which i have seen done for beyoncé’s renaissance tour, and where people in the comment section are incredibly uhhh.. “generous” in sharing their fashion criticism) is literally one of my biggest fears

When I talked to her later she told me she had been able to get the tickets, but she “had” to sit in a handicapped seat. This girl isn’t disabled. I was so appalled that she would be that entitled. But in most concerts, literally EVERYONE stands up the entire time and when able bodied people purchase handicapped seats (like the girl the original commenter was talking about). It means I have to sit in a regular seat where I can’t see anything because everyone is standing. I get it, you’re excited to see you’re favourite artist but I paid for this SEAT. @@Shay416 kinda….venues are required to have to have a certain number of handicapped seats but I believe the rule is these are only %1 all seats (i.e. if a venue had 100 seats, then only 1 would be for people with disabilities). The problems are that 1) a lot of times they are in very inconvenient places, 2) obviously, there aren’t that many of them, and 3) (in the case or the original comment) people without disabilities will buy those seats without thinking of those who actually need them, leaving disabled people to have to find a regular seat. If that’s the case, it’s not about the venue catering to my needs, it’s about the other people who are at the concert. I can’t stop hundreds of people from standing during a concert just because I can’t. (EDIT: I’m not trying to imply that everyone at a concert should cater to my needs, that would be ridiculous lol. See I really disagree because I love music and supporting indie artists and living in the United States I’ve never had any issues finding affordable tickets to see my faves. Indie artists usually charge well under $100 for example when I saw Julien Baker (1/3 of boygenius) her pit tickets cost me $41.25 base price about $30 plus fees. I just got tickets to see boygenius adding the star capital of Lucy Ducus and Phoebe Bridgers so that cost me $130.10 not sure what the base price was but I’m guess around $115. I think (and hope) Julien Baker is doing just fine as a solo artist. Now if I wanted to see Adele for her Las Vegas residency the prices start around $600+ it’s upsurd. As a music fan, your indie artists will always be more accessible than mega music stars. And maybe in another 20 years, Adele ticket prices go down because she won’t be in a residency and maybe has faded more.

For Bad Bunny's recent tour in Puerto Rico he did multiple things right in the sales that more should follow, I think.
He sold the tickets only in person, which makes it inaccessible to everyone but also guarantees that only locals can go to the show- which is a huge problem we've had before. He also prohibited resales and limited tickets per person.
The first day of the concert he had multiple livestreams going- 3 official 'viewing centers' which were packed and 100% free, as well as multiple unofficial ones too and livestreaming on a cable network. So really everyone had a chance to enjoy the concert and I think more artists should take ideas from him.

If you are finding the mainstream, large, and very expensive concerts unappealing, perhaps a small venue, which concerts typically range from $15-50, would be more your speed. So many amazing musicians play smaller gigs all the time. I have plenty of gripes with scalpers and ticketmaster, but you don't have to deal with that for smaller shows, or even festivals. I've even been given tickets to really cool things because they weren't sold out and someone didn't want the ticket to go to waste. For concerts find whatever city is in driving/bus distance from you, it will have local music scenes at smaller venues, go to some shows, see if you like anyone. Your closest city will also have larger concert venues, look to see who will be playing throughout the year, find artists in genres you like and listen to see if you like anyone. And there's good experiences for bigger artists too, like my friend happened to be in Seattle when Rico Nasty was playing a few months ago and got to see her and said it was great! I think that Boygenius is such an interesting band to be involved in this, solely because of the fans. I went to one of their gigs and at this particular one the band had a native hold a land acknowledgment. The crowd would not stop cheering as he detailed stories of horrific colonization, and he was obviously very uncomfortable with the response. It was a really cool thing for them to do, but unfortunately wasn’t given as much attention as it should have.
There were also fans who screamed 5+ times, "LUCY, take my flag!!" and she would glance over at them and obviously ignore it. In my opinion the combination of TikTok echo chambers and niche communities really lends itself to turn into this monster of a crowd. Everyone ends up thinking that because they’re in this group that their behavior is excusable, whether it be of how big of a fan they’re trying to be, or what TikTok told them was okay, or trying to garner similar attention that they saw someone else get popular for.

I was at The Weeknd's concert this summer and, honestly, the main reason I tried to push as near to the stage as possible was because EVERYONE had their huge smartphones up and recording. I was a few rows away from the stage yet I watched almost half of the concert through other people's phones or trying to position my head so I could see between the screens. I was a few meters away from the barricade yet all I could see were screens.
I'll never forget when in the middle of the concert the lights went off (it was a minute-long pause) and everyone put their phones down. I realized I could see the stage perfectly and that I was indeed very close to it. And I thought to myself "wow we could all have a great experience if the phones were down".
Of course I took a few short videos myself, but altogether they're about 6 minutes long. Meanwhile some people recorded each and every song. They didn't even sing or jump, just had their phones in the air. I would never want to experience a concert solely through my phone screen.

A few years ago, Nine Inch Nails went on tour and only sold tickets at the venue. No online sales, you had to line up to get them. It sounded like a great solution but ended up being such a mess. In my city, it was 90 degrees with no shade around the venue. A few people needed medical attention. Because the theater wasn't used to this kind of sales, they didn't have the staff in the box office that was needed for that many people, making it take much longer than expected.
Plus anyone who couldn't dedicate an entire day to it just didn't get to participate - I was privileged enough to be able to schedule my work hours that day and still almost didn't make my closing shift at 5 pm (I'd been in line since 6 am). From what I've seen, more rock focused or "heavier" artists tend to have better etiquette in their concerts. I feel like this is even shown with the fact that two of Tiffany's examples of artists standing up for their fans were The Cure and Nine Inch Nails. Obviously this is not a hard and fast rule that the heavier the concert = the more concert etiquette, but it's just an interesting idea.

Were the acts they were seeing as big of a deal when they were seeing them though? Yes, prices have gone up across the board, but partially this is just the natural progression of artists, if you see a lot of them. Some of them will fade into obscurity, some will get BIG, and no surprise seeing all of those again today would be totally unaffordable, duh. While even smaller shows have gotten more expensive, that's totally replicable today. You just have to stay informed and see up and coming acts, not established ones that fill arenas. What used to be a 15-20€ concert in 2010 here is now a 25-30€ concert. Sucks but in no way does that put it out of range of most people. "Concert culture" has never primarily been about seeing the biggest acts in arenas.

Social Media definitely heightens and strengthens this, the only problem is they're now given basically a loudspeaker and can actually bully people online vs just bullying people in person or getting into a confrontation at the concert or something. It's weird tho cause when I was younger and going to a concert, my POV was like... hey we all have something in common, we're here and either like the artist or we're just interested in seeing music and that's cool. @@NatalieMarie917 that's still an issue though. Both the venue and ticket vendor should have a responsibility to be transparent. They specifically stated that there would be a limited amount of tickets sold in the presale, however they then sold out that entire date. That ended up being a complete lie. It's shady. I understand the venue might not want to add dates if it's not popular, but they could have made it clear that presale tickets would be sold until [specified date] or if the allocation was exhausted. And then if allocation exhausted, will consider adding another date. Nowadays, it seems to just be their thing to pretend it's a traditional 'presale' (ie. limited tickets) but it's actually basically just a general sale to scope out the popularity - with the main issue being that they don't actually tell the fans this before the sale.

Like I'd assume all the better seats were taken by other people and she got stuck behind boomer streamer. Like, a 30 second clip that you upload and maybe doing that once or twice is one thing, but intending to stream the entire concert when there's people behind you who want to see the show for THEMSELVES is really rude. If he wanted to stream it, then he should've been in the back or something. You do not have the right to ruin other people's experience just because you want to do something. If you wanna stream, take seats in the back. Too bad if you want "the best angle". For some people, having various different bright phone screens in their line of view is VERY distracting especially if they're risen so high you can't see past them. It's not ok to ruin someone else's experience because YOU DONT care about their experience. I'm SURE if someone had stood in front of the boomer streamer, he would've flipped out because his son who's not there can't see it. And that's wrong. They really should stop allowing anything that can record to be out. Like hand out black baggies at security checks and have fans put their tech in them. And have security scanning the crowds for screen lights and ask those people to put it away or leave. Like seriously, anytime I've ever tried filming a thing, I couldn't even remember the moment later.

10 years ago I went to my first arctic monkey's concert, it was also my first concert in a big venue and my first concert with friends without my parents, so I was really excited. We queued for hours and ran straight to the front to get a good spot, watched the support acts patiently, only for 5 mins before AM were meant to start a huge rush of people pushed into the crowd (I mean like hundreds of people pushing through not just a small group) and I was pushed to the back, getting split up from my friends and not being able to see or hear the stage because of how many people were stood in front.
It was a bit shit and put me off going to concerts in big venues (I still don't enjoy big crowds or arena concerts) but it was only £30, and that was still a lot for me as a teenager but it wasn't half my rent or enough to bring me into debt.
I don't think concert etiquette has got that much worse, but there's so much riding on having a good time due to how much people have spent they care a lot less about everyone else having a good time.

I think we like to share the euphoria with the other attendees and also the artists are excited by the response from the Latin American public because it is something that they generally only receive abroad. Here, (at least in my experience) people like to drink or take something (acid or shrooms or weed if they don't typically partake in it) and then get lost in the sauce and start SCREAMING the songs. Like the whole song, completely out of tune, like they've had a bottle of vodka alone at a karaoke bar. And if you're close to them, it can be very hard to hear the actual performance. And if you complain/speak up to them they become rude or aggressive because they "paid for this". I've even had this happen at free concerts before. This stuff is even happening at theater performances now too. like nooooo, I didnt pay $100 to listen to the person 3 seats over drunkenly SCREAM the words of the song and then promptly barf up the 6 drinks she's had tonight onto her outfit and the sloped floor and seats. Like yes, it can be perfectly fine to sing along at a concert. It can even be ok to sing loudly if concerts are rare and it's a tour stop artists know will have more energy. But it's NOT ok to act like you're the star of the show and drink a lot or take a substance and then scream over the artist.

My last concert was before COVID. I asked a friend of mine to go with me despite her not knowing the artist so I wasn't alone in the city at night. When I bought the tickets, it was a month prior and there were plenty of tickets left and a whole bottom section where there was no seating assigned (which turned out to be standing only and it was closest to the stage.) We get to the city early, eat a little something, and walk over to queue. About 10 minutes before the show starts, we finally have the two girls in the row ahead.
When the artist comes out on stage, they stand and me and my friend figured it was the beginning so why not. Not even five minutes go by and there's a man booing at us, from 25 feet away so it wasn't about the view, for standing. Well, we paid for a seat so all of us sat after the first song except these two girls. The guy keeps booing for 20 minutes and the one time the girls felt bad about it, they ask a woman seated ahead of them; she gives them the whole "you do your thing" nod and smile. They proceeded to stand for the entire show and while I can barely see the stage, my friend can't see anything. I offered to switch with her but she declined since she didn't really know the artist.
So I asked them if they could at least sit for one song so my friend could at see and they looked perturbed but complied. As soon as that one song ended, one of them jumped right back up and the other sat out one song further. After the show, my friend asked me how much she owed me for the ticket and I told her, "Nothing. You had to stare at two teenage butt-butts all evening at a concert I dragged you to."
So yeah, I don't go to concerts anymore. I knew COVID would just exasperate the issue.

The things I hate most are people holding up signs for extended periods of time (or at all, really) and people throwing stuff at the artist. And people trying to cut in line for GA.
Ok, I’m also not a huge fan of people in the audience scream-singing. It’s distracting irl, and it completely ruins my videos.
But beyond all of that. What I really can’t stand is this dynamic pricing bs, and the increase in scalpers/fans reselling for a huge profit (sometimes just so that they can actually afford their own ticket).

Think of the people that have public meltdowns?? how they basically throw their voice out from how loudly the shriek - think tantrums. Me and my best friend went to see the Backseat Lovers in Pittsburgh this past July. The people around us completely ruined the show with their poor concert edict. We were in the pit close to the stage so the energy was high. There was a guy in his early twenties behind us that was screaming the whole time and demanded the song 'Olivia' be played since it's his girlfriends name. After screaming for 3/4ths of the show and ruining any quite parts of the set, Josh Harmon the lead singer sang it impromptu with no lights just to get it out of the way. This dude and his girlfriend were ecstatic that they got what they wanted and filmed the whole thing. The other members of the band stood off to the side and were visibly frustrated. Me and my friend left shortly after because of how incessant he was to get attention from the band by screaming the lyrics or just screaming to scream.

I sometimes attend concerts by myself and two things tend to happen.
First, people will ask me to switch seats with their friend (and pester me with the question/guilt-trip me into almost agreeing to their wishes). It's the assumption that, because it's just me, they are entitled to manage my experience. No need to mention how much they pout and complain/act indignant when I rightfully decline. Even the ones that act "polite" do their best to make me feel uncomfortable/unfair/like I'm ruining their experience by not switching.
The second thing is the influencer problem. People will constantly try to interrupt my experience to ask me to take their pictures and videos, sometimes in the middle of the biggest hit/most emotional/fun moment. They, of course, proceed to act like the victims of unfairness the second I say no.
    Outrageous.

I'm going to a concert later this month. For the first time in my life, a show popped up that's important enough to me to involve air travel and a hotel stay. Base ticket price was so super cheap--like $30. Fees made it nearly $50. I opted for priority line access, which bumped it to $70. Luckily, for me, that is still a reasonable total, and is a small portion of the overall cost for making the show into a 2 day trip. I am also hoping that the average age of the attendees means most of us know how to bahave, but fans are crazy and this is only the 3rd show we've gotten in 4 years, so we'll see how everyone manages to contain themselves.

So I’ve seen the same band (AFI) dozens of times since 2004. The competitiveness has gotten kind of crazy the past few years, especially this last tour (their first post-pandemic).
I think it’s a combination of who can seem like the most dedicated fan on social media, as well as just this sense of entitlement. There is a wonderful community of people who go to AFI shows still, who line up early to get good spots (since everything is general admission), who caravan from show to show and all bunk down in a single hotel room together, who sing along to every song and are grateful for every experience. And then there are those who actively complain that they didn’t get to see some rare b-side that was released in the 90s. That the set list, the experience, wasn’t catered directly to them.
I also think Astroworld had a huge impact, at the last AFI show i went to (post-astroworld), the lead singer stopped the show a few times to make sure people were okay in the crowd. That never used to have to happen, but I think it’s 100% necessary these days. I think the selfishness of people wanting to have these “perfect” concert experiences (close to stage, try and get a setlist or pick, get eye contact with the artist, etc) also leads to more crowd crush, which is actually dangerous and we’ve seen can easily kill people. Everyone rushing to the stage for their perfect picture or to try and get attention from the artist, there are consequences to that.
Not to get all elder emo on folks, but people used to look out for each other. Big dudes used to pick me up in the pit (I’m nearly six feet, sometimes I need the help of a burly man in a patched up denim vest if I fall lol), if crowd crush is getting intense and I’m on barricade, there was usually someone behind me bracing themselves around me so I’m not getting crushed up on metal, I never felt unsafe. Now, it’s like everyone wants to crawl over each other to get an inch closer to the artist.
All that being said, not all hope is lost lol. I’ve met some great newer/younger fans who are totally respectful and fun at shows, but the sum of the total has been…interesting to see.

Okay THANK YOU for this comment!! I've seriously noticed the lack of pit etiquette/safety over the past few years.
When I was 11 in '08, I went to see La Roux in the pit at a bar. Strangers we'd never met looked after me & my friend like they were our parents, making sure we didn't get crushed or lost in the crowd. They knew we loved the same music they did and thats all they needed to help keep us safe.
The last pit I was in (The Regrettes, last fall) I saw a small girl who looked about 12 get shoved out of the way by a crowd of full-grown adults because she was close to the front.
There's no care for fellow fans anymore. Now its like fans see others as competition or obstacles they need to overcome to get closer to their idols. Its seriously so fucked.

Hey, fellow AFI fan here to agree with you. Out of the acts with bigger crowds I've seen post 2020 (which have been many), AFI fans were hands down still doing the most to look out for each other and make sure everyone was having a good time. That said, I did get shoved out of the way by some asshole rushing to touch Davey which was unexpected.... people always push and shove and I've been elbowed by folks trying to touch Davey before, but this guy actively just threw me out of his way. Also there were less people on their phone the whole time than at other shows.
But overall broadly speaking "rock" shows just aren't the same, as you're saying, due to a seeming loss of that "unity"/"we're all here together to have fun" mentality that used to exit. People looking out for eachother are now in the minority and I've been to some shows where it seemed like everyone there was just out to get internet clout since they were either recording or otherwise on their phones the entire show.

I've said basically this same comment in every video on this topic, but when it comes to fan culture and courtesy at shows I really think it depends on what artist and genre of music you're seeing. I've been going to concerts regularly for well over a decade and I personally haven't seen that much change since I started attending them in my teens, but I primarily see indie, emo and alt rock groups and the culture there is exactly the same as it was before the pandemic imo. In fact the worst fan experience I've ever had at a show was long before the pandemic even happened so there have absolutely been jerks long before lockdown.
Yes there are more phones out at shows, but as someone who also films at concerts for personal use when the artists play my favorite songs (because i like to go back and rewatch my vids when I'm feeling down to relive the emotions i experienced at the show) I honestly don't see what the problem with it is so long as the person filming isn't blocking someone's view or being disrespectful. The whole concept that anti-filming fans have of "well *I* go to shows to be in the moment and see the artist in person" honestly feels just as elitist to me as someone saying that casual fans of an artist shouldn't be allowed to get tickets.

Another issue is that some arenas are taking so much of the ticket price, and the artists already make so little of the ticket price, that artists are simply deciding not to have shows in cities with these greedy arena owners (like here in Cleveland), causing us to go out of state to see artists--which makes it even more expensive. I did go to a show in a movie theater last year which showed Billy Joel’s historic Yankee Stadium show. It was really fun, wore my shirt from that tour. It’d be a great way for people to see significantly historic concerts or artists in their younger days of or artists who have passed away. I saw Tom Petty live once, but I’d love to see a show of his from the early 1980s when I was too young to go or Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the USA tour, which I wasn’t allowed to go (I was like 13).

I used to love Maggie Rogers’ music and free-spirited vibe so much, but the most recent time I saw her live back in March, (in SF’s Bill Graham auditorium) she shamed the audience members in the balcony of the venue for sitting down, claiming it was the wrong way to do her concert and that everyone should be dancing. I was in the balcony. As you say in the video, people choose to sit for a whole host of reasons we don’t need to harass them about, including health issues. I totally understand that it’s challenging for musicians to perceive low enthusiasm during a live performance, but sitting doesn’t necessarily equal disinterest and her comment just didn’t seem very grateful for those who showed up at all 😔 She made additional comments about the lack of energy in the room at my concert and a close friend’s in a different city. It saddened me. I’ve danced wildly at her shows before but maybe I can’t do it every time and that should be okay 😔 I’m not sure how the logistics of dividing a venue into sections would work, but I’m hopeful that it can be done and would mitigate this.

She’s frankly doing herself a disservice as an artist to read the crowd like that… she’s choosing to interpret a quieter crowd as a negative thing, as “lower energy”, but honestly, maybe what they have is a chill vibe with a lot of energy, and she should view it as an opportunity on the stage. A distracted crowd,I get that being frustrating. A more quiet or still crowd, they could be very engaged, and the artist needs to engage with them on that plane and feel the love, the energy, and the connection in the room. I think more experienced performers recognize this and can get there onstage, each show has a different vibe and flavor depending on what the crowd AND and artist can being to it.

I've been to several cinema livestreams of concerts and it's been a different experience every time (and I've heard of all kinds of different experiences, good and bad). The key thing that can be a problem there is that people are very unsure what the etiquette is: some people don't feel it's okay to sing along, even quietly, because that's cinema etiquette.Others do sing along and even scream and clap (after a song ends), stand up and dance, etc. as if they're actually at the concert and think it's rude that people would just sit there quietly. So it can be a bit difficult to know what's appropriate because concert and cinema etiquette are so different. I recently saw that in Korea they sometimes do specific showings of a concert where people can bring their fan-lightsticks (and they sync them up with bluetooth just like at the actual concert) and are actively encouraged to sing along. So if everyone goes into the experience with the same expectations of what's appropriate, I think everyone can enjoy the experience and it can be similar to going to the real thing.

I'm in Brazil, and Brazilian concert culture is different from the US - singing every single lyric is a sign of admiration, love and respect for the artist, and most international acts are sold out in less than a week, it's been like this since decades ago. I don't know what changed, because we don't do dynamic pricing, but it's so much harder to buy tickets now :(

As a former concert-going teen/young adult I have SO MUCH to say on this topic but I’ll try to be brief! So much of it comes from my family supporting me - we were not well off by any means but my parents recognized going to shows meant a lot to me and no concert was ever off the table! They also let me skip school to get the best general admission spots - if I wasn’t front row centre for those, my ND brain couldn’t handle someone bothering me in front! I remember getting Coldplay tickets for my 16th birthday and they were a LOT at the time…I even saw the Spice Girls reunion in 2007 for $150…that was definitely a combo of mine and my parents money 😂 This was all before the 2008 economic crash and that’s where I argue prices started to rise uncontrollably. I fully stopped going to arena shows post-2008 and limited myself to buying $20 tix to local or smaller events. When I moved to Toronto in 2017, I was lucky because most ppl tour there and I saw a lot of artists I loved for maybe 20-50 each. It has changed SO MUCH now - for example I decided to buy a Madonna ticket for $120 because she was supposed to open the tour in Vancouver (my current location) and I thought it’d be fun to go without spoilers - now she has cancelled and rescheduled for 2024, I’m no longer interested and pawning the tix off, again, does not WORK for my ND brain 😂 to close this monologue… in 2023 I’ve been to two tours, Caroline Polachek and Juno Birch, which are very in-demand shows in places like LA but very undersold in Vancouver. So at both shows I felt very spoiled because the crowd was so chill and spread out - I used to think Vancouver was a joke city and nobody ever came here, and now I’m spoiled for choice! P.S. Despite how maddening the concert economy is, Beyonce is in Van Sept 11 and I’m gonna show up hoping to scalp day-of baby! Thanks for letting me ramble about a very precious topic to me 🤡

Tbf, who WOULDN'T wanna see Juno Birch? She's a blue icon 🤣🤣🤣. It sucks so much that Trixie Mattel doesn't come out to my region much because I'm a big fan. It's not like I can afford to travel even 50 miles to see her unless it was in Boston and I managed to get on the train which hasn't even opened here yet...m

@@jennatavares4695 💙💙💙!!! I had balcony tix for Juno but the event was so undersold they closed it, I ended up second row to the front! It gives me confidence I might actually secure a decent Beyonce ticket come Monday 😆I am so grateful for these opportunities, I was about three hours from Vancouver from 2021-earlier this year and missed a lot of tours - unforeseen circumstances landed me back in the city which bummed me out until I realized hey, Van gets pretty much all touring ppl now and the crowds aren't huge! I'm with you on Trixie - she did just come to Van but I was away and missed it - I am DESPERATE for a Trixie/Katya tour, and they should take a page from Lana Del Rey and perform in rural landlocked areas because - surprise - that's where the fans are!!! I hope you can see her one day!

I still go to concerts a lot - but the worst experience has to be standing tickets to a kpop show. It’s scary. But other than that I have the best time at rock concerts (I’m in france, where prices are a lot lower). Thanks for the video !

I went to see Justin Timberlake live for my first concert and genuinely this opened so much more for me. I realized how special it is to see your favorite artist live and how intimate it can be at different venues. I went from small Dutch artists (I live in the Netherlands) to big festivals and my love for it kept growing. It’s mostly for the experience of being there with your family / friends and screaming, crying and laughing together while enjoying your time. After social media got way way more popular I realized how some people just wanted the perfect instagram story. Once I saw one girl recording the WHOLE LORDE concert vertically :’). When that happend something clicked for me. After all those concerts, how many of the videos do I watch back? Some maybe once or twice. From then i decided, go to the concert / festival, see your favorite people. Leave your phone in your bag, unless you hear your favorite tune. You may record that, but that’s it.
It makes the the experience way more enjoyable, you can look around see people enjoying themselves, jump around in a moshpit or cry just because. Watching the video’s back will feel more intense because this was a moment u needed to capture , but doesn’t ruin the whole concert experience for yourself or others around you :)
For people who have never been to a concert ! Please go , if you don’t enjoy crowds find a smaller venue and “less” popular artist, concerts like these will feel even more special, than seeing Beyoncé from far far away ( I speak from experience) x

The streams of concerts already exist in kpop world! They are not live but still better experience than watching it on DVD at home.
I went once in December, the crowd was dead, but I went again in May and it was sooo fun! We were all collectively cheering as if we were there, singing choruses and just simply enjoying the show.

I live in Germany so the whole Ticketmaster thing doesn't entirely apply to me (no dynamic prices here thank God!), but all of the things you discussed are exactly the reason why I only ever go to small to like mid sized concerts. I went to Hoziers show here in Cologne back in July and that was a lowely crowd. So kind and caring. It was hot as hell in the concert hall and people were alerting the artist and the security crew whenever someone wasn't feeling well, passing along water and generally taking care of each other.
Obviously people passing out at concerts because it's so hot and humid in the hall is not good, but that is on the venue not on the artist or the crowd.
What I really don't get is the whole video & filming thing. I never even take out my phone at a concert tbh. I want to be in the moment, quietly singing along with the artists and just dancing & vibing.

I've skipped shows this year because Live Nation's fees are stupidly expensive. The last ticket I almost bought was 50% fees. At that point I just decided I'm just done with concerts through them. With the current concert culture I don't even feel any FOMO, it's a space lead by companies that I don't want to deal with.
The music industry is burning all their bridges and I'm just waiting for it to suddenly collapse into itself as soon as great local artists decide to go back to doing the hard work themselves.

I had nosebleeds for Beyonce a few weeks ago and the guy sitting directly in front of me was standing and blocking my view the entire time (even though everyone else in our section would sit mostly and stand to dance on occasion) AND he was screaming at the absolute top of his lungs like a child and waving his arms around. I would assume his age was like 19-21. I literally could barely see or hear anything going on on the stage. AND while we were leaving we experienced a crowd surge because it was so jam-packed with people.
