The skyline of NYC already includes some of the world's highest skyscrapers, but construction on many new structures is still underway. These future supertall skyscrapers will be higher and larger than the current ones in New York City. With new construction on the way, the city's famous skyline will change dramatically by 2030.

I have my concerns about the actual strength and engineering of these buildings. They look like clumsy art pieces like they don't care about anything else
They have already tried to mimic the Art Deco design with the Thirty Park Place in Lower Manhattan. And a couple of others! But nothing like how they built the Empire State, Chrysler Building etc.
My thoughts exactly. These new buildings have nothing on the beauty of the Empire State & Chrysler buildings.
Am I the only one who gets really distracted when they are showing beautiful shots of the New York skyline and then cut in a shot of Dubai? Why? I don't get it.
What's really annoying is that you are showing pictures that do NOT correspond to buildings you discuss. It's like a salad of images and it's confusing and distracting from your otherwise good presentation.

These are all hideous. Absolutely hideous. I can't even tell which one is the worst. How come no one wants to make a gothic or art deco skyscraper? Everything has be modern and international. The city will lose its identity in this way.
Go collect 4 billion dollars and make your own gothic, art deco building. It’s their money, so they are building them how they please
@@salasrcp90 Thank you, Internet guy, for that stunning rejoinder. But there is a lesson here. The client signs off on the building, but they do not build as they please. They get an architect to propose things. If there is a hivemind in starchitecture (where 4bln dollar projects usually end up), then you are not likely to have variety in terms of looks. Your fiduciary responsibilities make you less likely to take chances on personal idiosyncrasies, including getting a less well known firm to build your mega projects. So you get Norman Foster or Zaha Hadid etc. to build it and they have their respective styles regardless of who they build for. Zoning issues also matter. This is not the case for gothic vs shitbox skyscraper architecture (restrictions are the same, we are just talking aesthetics), but when you think of New Urbanist/New Trad developments, zoning is often an impediment to projects because of minimum lot sizes, mixed use restrictions, number of parking spots etc. So, even if you have the money, and you can easily spend 4 bln there too, especially for a transit oriented development, you still cant build the way you want. I still get to bitch about it.
Now with the complete collapse of commercial real estate, I'm curious if any of these will actually be completed.

I wish they had just bult a Twin Freedom Tower. Even if they build the diamond shaped building it just doesn't fit. Anything other than twins just makes it look like Hudson Yards South down there. That part of town just doesn't look right without them. IMO.

Continuing to develop and allocate resources to the construction of office buildings seems so wasteful in a post-pandemic world, given how many people work from home. The housing crisis in NYC should be met with this type of development, which could drive down housing costs. Like this just seems so ridiculous.

Most company says that working from home is more distracting than working from well work lol , which I can agree with , if I would have to work from home then I would likely be distracted by my bed , dogs , PC , my phone etc, yes it would be much more comfortable and less fuel burnt, time saved cause of no travel but at the same time for the company itself it would be worse I think

Working with what we've got, it would be nice to give One World Trade Center it's long awaited twin without the spire and a 360 degree outdoor observation deck making it the highest in the western hemisphere. If we don't get that then the only other option is to build two huge identical unique towers somewhere else in New York reaching 110 or more floors with an outdoor observation deck. This might not happen in the foreseeable future but it's definitely something that would fill the void from losing the original beautiful Twin Towers.
New York needs a skyscraper that is 110 floors or more and it needs it's highest outdoor observation deck back at 1,377 feet or more. 2 things New York has failed to recreate after losing the Twin Towers and none of these future products offer this. In my opinion all these other mega projects are a waste of time and money that have no special value. It's money been flushed down the toilet that could be spent building better mega projects that draws in tourism, residential and business use.
The New One World Trade Center is literally only half the tower the Twin Towers were. Yes it's uniquely beautiful, a really nice indoor observation deck with top of the range cinematics and looks really pretty at night. My negatives for this tower are there's only one tower, no outdoor observation deck, it failed to reach 110 or more floors and the base and lobby look like a bunker. The Twin Towers had no faults with their appearances, everything about them was beautiful. Today we're stuck with the One World Trade Center which I can be appreciative of because we could have had much worse or nothing at all.
Unless things change I think New York City will be unlivable

It's like they're trying their hardest to uglify the skyline as much as possible. They must have a contest going who can build the ugliest skyscraper and they're all running neck and neck. I will forever miss and long for the 20th century skyline.

New York, as much as I love the place. I think they are wasting time and money building these silly projects instead of just rebuilding the beautiful Twin Towers. Most people wanted and still want the Towers back. Although they would have to be in a different part of New York now, it will always be possible to rebuild them, we just need someone to green light the idea.

Progress is all very well but I'd have liked to see something that accentuates the beauty of the Chrysler building's Art Deco, maybe something with a sloping roof. Also, I'm happy that the NAACP is getting an exciting new headquarters and that apparently it's being built by a n African-American owned architectural firm. I just wish this video had described how this building, Affirmation Tower, will be stabilized since it is so top-heavy. Oh well, I guess I'll look at the official website for Affirmation Tower.

They should make a huge ymca for all the immigrants coming in. I don’t get why they don’t make those Eastern European housing blocks that house like 18000 people. Then surround the area education centres and simple things. If you had 20 of those you could house 360,000 in a compact space and 40 of them would house 7,200,000 of them.

Imo i don’t think 350 park avenue and tower fifth look good on the nyc skyline. These buildings brake even more the aesthetic of middle manhattan. For example the affirmation tower will be built in Hudson Yards so all the buildings there are new and modern. Also, something I noticed about the Affirmation tower is the vertical elements on the façade witch reminds me of 111 west 57th street and obviously of the twin towers, so I’d say a yes for this project.
Usa has to build the tallest apartments bricks are just made of mud.

2 World Trade has been redesigned once again, the stacked box design in this vid is outdated. Thank god too, that stacked box design was awful, and from a certain angle it looked like the building was toppling over, very distasteful to build something that looks like it's collapsing on the WTC site
