Hey Tariq im in the process of wanting to purchase a franchise, but the lenders i spoke to didn't want to lend me anything less than 100k. They told me that the minimum they will loan out is 200k or more. Otherwise I'd have to go with unsecured lenders. On top of that, they need to know my current income, but why would that even matter if I would have to quit to work at the franchise anyway? I quit my job in anticipation of getting ready to buy this place and now I feel like I made a big mistake.

I learned my lesson, never ever borrow money from family or friends. I would rather borrow money from an institution, private lender. If anything goes wrong you have to pay your family or friends back, an institution you can file bankrupt for example.

One con is that it can ruin a family/friend relationship. That's one con I can't get past. I will do many resourceful things in order to follow a dream and make that dream a reality, but for me personally, to drag friends and family into my business venture is too risky. My motto in life is "Faith, family, health & Wealth". In that order. I cannot allow myself to comprise my faith by relying on family to assist me with wealth. Not necessarily, just explain your financial situation and goals- and ask them what it would take to be able to open a location. If you have no money, then the conversation isn't going to go far. But if you have a $120k net worth and their minimum is $150k ...then who knows.

My family is too poor to even give me $100, I make $3000 a month with a 485 credit score so I won't get approved for a loan. What is your option then ?
You need to put together a strategy to get yourself in a position to actually buy a franchise. If you have no assets, you need to get yourself on a savings plan. Set some 1 year targets. Savings goal, credit score goal, reduce debt goal, and make more money goal. I'm not sure why you have a 485 credit score, but if you can't manage paying regular bills, then maybe running a business with overhead isn't a good option for you. Franchising isn't for everybody. If you can put together a plan, and be disciplined to turn around your financial situation...then MAYBE you should consider a franchise.
Hey Tyler- most successful entrepreneurs use other people’s money to start or fund their business. I sense the sarcasm in your comment. I’ve gotten a lot of feedback from people that they appreciate the value in this advice and how to be resourceful as an entrepreneur. I thought it was useful that he mentioned "10% minimum" for certain small business loans. I want to buy a business that costs a million, I cough up 100,000 down payment, and the bank buys me the business. Seems somewhat possible. He also explained that you could use your 401K, if you expect the business to yeild a windfall profit within 60 days, or else you have to take that 401k money as an early retirement distribution and pay 10% penalty and income tax. So there was some useful advice in here. Thanks.

Get creative - that's the point. Find out what they want, and pitch them based off that. Do you not meet the net worth requirements? Then pitch them on how you plan to get the capital, your business plan, etc and see if they'll approve you. Chances are slim- but when there is a will there is a way.

Hey Sarfaraz, you'd need to look at your franchise agreement. Each one has different terms. Generally speaking the Franchisor would not refund you your build out if you decide not to renew. Yes. It varies on the franchise. Did you watch the video in full? If you buy with someone as a partner, there assets can meet the criteria. Or you can see if the Franchisor will make exceptions. Pretty sure I talked about that in the video 😉

Sounds like a great plan! I'd target a certain percentage of your income to save and invest. Keep saving and investing as much as you possibly can- you may get there sooner than you think! There are some home health care franchises that are very affordable.

Definitely need to be cautious. To rule it out as an option if you don’t have any source of funding would be short sided. There are many people who have done it successfully without issues. There are also people who have done it and had issues. The reality is, it’s an option- whether you agree with it or not, it’s important for people to know what their options are.
What would you have rather heard instead? Instead of throwing out an insulting comment with no thought or basis, why don't you actually provide more insight on what it is you want. If hearing advice from someone who runs a million dollar business is a waste of time, I'd like to know what you think is worth your time. Say a franchise cost $400, can I get $40 of equity from my house and use that as a base (10%) for SBA loan?
Generally yes. You still have to get approved through underwriting, but many folks use a HELOC for their down payment for SBA.

SBA loans look at your personal credit. You'll need 20% down as well.

Definitely need to be cautious. To rule it out as an option if you don’t have any source of funding would be short sided.
There are many people who have done it successfully without issues. There are also people who have done it and had issues.
The reality is, it’s an option- whether you agree with it or not, it’s important for people to know what their options are.
