Modernizing Manila's Water Supply

- The Asian Development Bank is working with the Philippines to modernize Manila's water supply and reduce the risk of water shortages as demand rises in tandem with the city's booming population.
An ADB funded project used modern tunnel boring technology to excavate a fourth supply tunnel for the Angat-Ipo reservoirs, a major source of water for Metro Manila. The technology is faster, cheaper, and safer than the traditional drill and blast method. The tunnel was completed in June 2020, and rehabilitation works will begin on existing supply tunnels in 2021, ensuring continuous water supply.

That's one of the provisions included in the contract of water concessionaires, MAYNILAD & Manila Water. Sadly, none bothered to fulfill their end of the bargain until the recent admin discovered the anomalies.

The gov’t is the only organization capable of handling the entire business affairs on how to take care of the water and the constant maintenance it needs-it must be clean at all times-for drinking, and it must be completely free of toxin. I hope your gov’t was successful in getting the control of water supply management and ownership last year-not leave in the hands of private agency, or oligarch. Do you know if the Sierra Madre waterway is finish? Be blessed. Jul2020.

Thank you for this project under present admin,inutang pa sa ADB itong project na ito para sa mamamayan ,kasi lagi nagrereklamo dalawang dambuhalang water concessionaire na laging kapos sa tubig eh .wala na silang lusot dito kasi MWSS na mismo ang nagpagawa ng project hindi sila.

Not a Land Fill. Better study new technologies of solid waste management like an incineration plant to convert waste to electrical energy. The projects should be viewed on long term and within ecological standards.

@@batangfirst5993 That is illegal under the Clean Air Act. That first need to be ammended before doing that. That proper waste management is under Solid Waste Management Act, sadly many LGUs all over the country does not even implementing it or just not fully implementing it mandated laws.

JAY family spacing is the govt push that people are not having children back to back, basically a month after birth the woman is pregnant again. Actually there are concentrations of people in areas that creates over population in that area. But the Philippines as a whole has large tracks of land that is unoccupied and underused. Btw i cannot be considered u guys as i am not Filipino.
Di naman problema ang tubig sa mga probinsiya. Sa mga siyudad tulad ng Manila nagkakaroon dahil sa migration ng mga taga probinsiya due to availability of work hence straining the capacity of the water agency to provide services for incoming migrants.
Peter Barroga everyone understands that people leave the province to work in the larger cities, this is pretty normal world wide. You see the move to use the COVID19 excuse to repatriate squatters and regular workers back to the province? It is a move by the same oligarchs that have been running the Philippines for years to keep the poor... poor. The best thing the poor can do is to stop providing a slave work force for the rich. Make the rich fill their own job quotas, and you will see some change. Family spacing is a good program, so is protection, it will reduce the number of unmarried teenage pregnancies in the PI, and help to distribute jobs, but this is going to take 20 years to happen.
@@marknasia5293 I do not see your logic here, see, the government try to decongest the cities by providing them incentives (i.e. capital) to work on with and provide a decent job in farming and service sectors while building up/setting up manufacturing and high-end (tech) services in regional cities. Lesser population for highly urbanized cities means lesser strain for resources like water.

will this reduce the price of water in metro manila or it will be shoulder by every household? why not add and build a waste water recycling plant and study how to recycle flood water.
Nog Nog, pwedeng hindi pero mas sigurado ang suplay nang tubig papunta sa mga bahay. Ang isang dapat na pina-project ay itong Laguna lake. Dapat mahukay para mabawasan ang mga lumot na siyang bumabara sa mga filters nang mga planta na sumisipsip diyan, magiging maganda pa ang lasa nang mga isda na makukuha. Puro burak na kasi ang ilalim kaya mabilis tumubo ang lumot.
Nog Nog actually that is a good idea to have homes with gray water systems for flushing toilets. But, once you look at how many live outside the system, even building homes on squatted land. You can see what a problem this is alone. In provincial areas, there are still many that have no access to city water, collect rain water in buckets, barrels etc only few have manual wells. it is good to see any progress but these projects, there is so much graft and corruption involved, the average Filipino is the last person the govt is thinking about and will only do some small local road project to get a few votes come election time.
Thanks for the information. What about the after use development. The sewage disposal. Hopefully, that's given equal importance as well. Even more importance, I think, because Metromanila is drowning in sewage. Hinulugang Taktak is a prime example. They will have more clean water to use but it also means more dirty water to process. Do you have information about that?
The next step would hopefully be about improving water reclamation infrastructure

I think that dams should be built like ships. It should be double or multiple hull. A dam after the other for protection. It will be more expensive but safer.

Lack of infrastructure is the problem on why the Philippines' water supply is in crisis in the past several years. I hope that the government do some actions like decongesting the capital city and its neighbors.

While it's good and all, it doesn't really address the root problem which is the dwindling recharge capacity of the Angat-Ipo reservoirs. But at least we can do some work on the old tunnels without hampering current capacity.

Funny putting pipes without source of water supply is BS. What luzon need is a reservoir in the southern part of luzon near Bicol then create a highway of sewerage pipes that connects it to other reservoir incase of overflow of water in each reservoir. Pipes without water is just a pipe.
