If your dog is fat then it will develop joint problems and many other complication as they get older. So yes a responsible owner should always make sure that they don't overfeed their dogs and also make sure they get enough exercise so that the dogs can have a long healthy life.

Back when my brother and his eventual wife were dating, my German Shepherd would do this to her on the days she spent the night. He would sneak into their room in the morning and snuggle on top of her, effectively pinning her to the bed. On more than one occasion we had to coax my Shepherd off of her so she could get up.
