I received the Gift of the Holy Ghost at 10 Yrs of age in my Sunday school class. We had just completed a 6 wks Bible Study on Noah’s Ark. I realized I can be safe in the Spirit of God.
I have been dismayed at the dearth of teaching re: the Holy Spirit. We NEED Him and must be taught from the word of God. It seems like most pastors are afraid to teach about being filled with the Holy Spirit, or the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Perhaps they have never been taught, themselves. Rhema Bible Training Center in Broken Arrow, OK was where I learned so much about the Holy Spirit and the operation of the gifts and our classrooms allowed for the practice of the gifts in an environment of love and teaching. I wish there were more pastors who could impart that knowledge to the body of Christ. We so very much need to be filled with, experience the ministry of, and walk among those who are perishing anointed by the Holy Spirit. Praying in tongues, speaking mysteries unto God, receiving understanding and knowledge of God thru that intimacy - plugging into God! Is critical to our Christian life.
Tongues and interpretations are so often misused. It's sad. Things are out of order in many churches, so God isn't glorified. Many churches don't want to follow the order Paul commanded in 1 Corinthians 14.
Two or three people should speak publicly in tongues, and one should interpret. In one Corinthians 14:27 I believe, Paul is using personal pronouns, so two or three people can speak with tongues. He also said that we should let One interpret. Now I know that in different translations, it may say, let someone interpret. I gravitate toward the understanding that one person, ideally, should be responsible for all the interpretation of tongues in any given service. I cannot prove this, so people are free to disagree, but I believe that ministry leaders should be able to interpret. This way, they can be responsible in these manifestation gifts of the Holy Spirit. How can you train your congregation to do what you yourself cannot do? Not saying the pastor has to always interpret, but he certainly should be able to And I would recommend that small leader ship sessions. Be a part of the church, this way, people can grow in the gifts of the spirit in a more training type setting, then Sunday morning can be the more mature expressions of these gifts. As one who has been used in interpretation, since I was a teenager, if I am behind the pulpit, and someone gives a tongue, I normally do not wait. I will give the interpretation within two seconds of them speaking. To me, this is a good order. If the Lord quickens to me that someone else has it, I will call her name and ask them if they have it and they will give it. But I keep prophecy and interpretation of tongues in good hands.
