Synevyr (other names - Synevyr, Morske Oko) is the largest lake of the Ukrainian Carpathians. It is located in the Mizhhirsky district of the Transcarpathian region, in the mountain massif of Inner Gorgan. It is part of the Synevyr National Nature Park. Of malignant origin.
The lake is considered the most interesting object of the Synevyr National Nature Park and is one of the hallmarks of the Ukrainian Carpathians. It is located at an altitude of 989 meters above sea level, has an average area of ​​4-5 hectares, its average depth is 8-10 m, the maximum is 22-24 m. Due to its considerable height above sea level and relatively deep water, even on the warmest days, only the upper 1-2 meters of the lake to the maximum temperature of 11-13°С.
The lake was formed as a result of a powerful landslide caused by an earthquake about 10,000 years ago. At an altitude of 989 m, rocky mountain rocks stood in the way of a fast stream, forming a dam and completely blocking the narrow valley. The resulting depression was filled with water from three mountain streams.
The flora and fauna of the lake and surrounding areas are quite diverse. Mountain roe deer, European deer, bear, lynx, wolf, fox, badger, ermine live here. Lake, rainbow and brook trout feel good in the clear water of the lake. About 90 species of plants listed in the Red Book of Ukraine are common in the coastal area.
The landscapes are noted for their extraordinary picturesqueness and majesty. Steep slopes covered with slender spruces, the age of which is 140-160 years old, descend directly to the water surface. In the middle of the lake, like the pupil of a blue eye, a small island with an area of ​​only a few meters was located. Hence the popular name of the lake - Morske Oko.
According to the legend, the picturesque lake was formed from the tears of the count's daughter Xin at the place where her beloved, a simple Verkhovyna shepherd Vira, was killed with a stone block by order of the count because of his beggar origin.
