As an Australian professional who came to work, contribute, pay taxes and embrace the Irish culture, I not only had to jump through hoops to be allowed in (rightly so!) and continue to have to regularly go to the GNIB or Garda station to keep my residency permit valid, I find this astounding! Maybe I should have just jumped on the plane and said "I'm claiming asylum!" Free gaff, free healthcare, free immigration, my own "caseworker"! Think of all the tax dollars and rent I would have saved!

I am not Irish (sadly) but if I was I would be spitting fire over this. I am sure there are many native born Irish people who do not get these benefits so freely offered by your government. In 2020 my family was facing homelessness thanks to the institution that is supposed to protect tenants, the RTB. They literally treated us like criminals for trying to protect our 3 kids from a predator landlord who would show up and go crazy in front of our kids and attempt to blackmail us, trying to coerce my wife into throwing me out of the house. The house was delapidated with a host of serious issues, all recorded in writing and the RTB rubber-stamped our homelessness to the point where we were preparing bedding in our two cars thinking we were going to be spending February 2021 sleeping in the cars with our 3 kids.
My 2 year old boy fell into an overflowing drain in that house, a drain we had been trying to get fixed for 4 years complete with paperwork and he nearly drowned, the RTB simply said ''that's unfortunate''. This country and its institutions are openly hostile to the Irish people, they don't even hide it anymore. You don't have 10 years of a housing crisis by accident.

The language schools are at it all the time... Advertising the fact of a free work visa in Ireland if they sign up to their school.
They provide a week or two at their own selected apartments and then the students are on their own.
You can guess what happens after that.
Those language schools should be banned.
@@interceptor6893 well, these operate in Dublin and Cork mostly. There are English language schools in other cities also like Galway Limerick and Waterford with much less of a following.
I knew students who paid almost €3k for English language lessons for 9 months and failed to secure accommodation for the longer term despite having jobs in Ireland.
Being said, a foreign language student has a better chance of gaining long term accommodation, as difficult as it is, then a single Irish middle aged male.
Officially there are supposed to only work 20 hours oer week but i don't know if it is being monitored
