- "Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us"
Strange things are happening everyday
I hear the music up above my head
Though the sight of my heart has left me again
I hear music up above
Secrets are written in the sky
Looks like I've lost the love I've never found
Though the sound of hope has left me again
I hear music up above
Standing in my broken heart all night long
Darkness held me like a friend when love wore off
Looking for the lamb that's hidden in the cross
The finder's lost
I know I loved you too much
I'll go alone to get through
I hear Rosetta singing in the night
Echos of light that shines like stars after they're gone
Tonight she's my guide as a girl on the moon
With the music up above

Sam is great. She writes great songs. I love her voice. I've attended 4 of her shows(one opening for Bruce Cockburn) over the years and she's great live. I met her at a show years ago and she was as gracious and sweet as could be. What's not to love about Sam. One of my absolute favorites.
ThankYou so much Sam & NPR
Love, love, love this song. My trio often covers it...sadly, sans the Stroh violin.
Awesome!
*watches video to learn bridge chords*
*confirms verse chords, excitation rising*
*Yessssss! Bridge chords incoming!!!!*
*camera promptly cuts away from guitar during bridge*

FYI, it's "Tonight she's my guide as I go on alone"....
Girl on the moon was a nice variation, but I agree with you.
Isn't this the songwriter?......
I've yet to hear a bad version of this song
@jamesjoyce616 hes talking about the words on the side not Sam Phillips
