Ham radio hobbyist 23 years - grounding is crucial for any radio on the AM / SW bands. Small radios can be grounded by making a ‘dead plug’ - clip the ‘hot’ or tip off of a connector such as the headphone plug. Find which of the two plug lines are connected to the negative. You now have a ground - by connecting this line to any metal object driven into the ground ( like a nail ), insert the clipped plug into the radio. AM / SW stations will come in so strong, you may have to retract the antenna to prevent signal overload, especially listening at night. You can also ground using the USB cable, but it’s a little more complicated.
Bleikr I attempted the dead plug. However the only option, seemingly, for the v115 is the earplug / headphone jack. When the dead plug is inserted, it kills the sound. Any advice.
I read the manuals while waiting for the thing to be delivered, but videos give a different point-of-view from a diagram or sketch in a printed document.
Купил приёмник 3 месяца назад. Отличноая сборка и материалы из которых изготовлен радиоприёмник.Ловит все станции, которые есть в моём регионе проживания. Звук замечательный. Очень доволен покупкой.
This radio was just delivered to me today, Tuesday August 15th from Amazon. So far I really like it and your video here made it easy to set up. Thank You
This video is well-done. I like your pointer. I use a wooden skewer with the trip coloured black with a marker. When you press REC, it records whatever is playing through the speaker (AM/FM/SW, line-in, etc.)
Very helpful video! Now I can finally really enjoy this fantastic little radio! You were right about the higher capacity batteries too. I keep 3, and charge at night when one is drained. Full charging can take quite a while, so charging overnight works best for me.
I have fancier radios (Tecsun PL-880 and XHData D-808) but I bought one of these just for AM/FM to listen in my shed. Nice size, fits in a pocket nicely and the sound quality is really good, as is the little stand attached to the lanyard (brilliant idea). Not impressed with its SW performance but admittedly I haven’t tried attaching a wire to the antenna which may improve things. For $35 delivered to Australia it’s hard to fault.
I haven't had a problem with the battery life in mine. Maybe l got lucky. But Ive got several of them rattling around in parts bins. Even though I've never used it, always throw an extra one with a full charge in my backpack. I've caught enough panfish to bottom out a battleship while listening to to this little radio.
I just bought and received this radio yesterday, and went through the supplied manual. The main reason that I bought this radio was to play MP3 songs from the micro-SD card, and that it CAN shuffle/random play the songs (of course having the radio is a big plus too). I don't think they ever updated the manual to tell you how to do that... you have to press the "menu" button (while the songs are playing) until the "R" (for Random) shows up on the screen (near the top). I bought a Kago MD-096 radio several months ago, but it cannot shuffle songs, and dislike how easy it is to accidentally turn the flashlight on and drain the battery.
By attaching a cord with male plugs at each end between the line in on the radio and headphone jack on a cellphone, what you play on the phone will play through the radio. If a TF or micro SD card is inserted to the radio slot, you can record from the cellphone to the card.
I've not been able to delete files from the card while inserted in the radio, so I insert it into an OTG adapter, attach the adapter to the charging port on my phone. When the files show up on the directory under USB drive, I can delete unwanted files there. Before removing the OTG adapter from the phone, I eject it under settings/ storage. I'm not sure why I can't delete files while the card is in the radio and it's annoying.
nice video Mr. Robert wilson , it help really to get started , video is better than manual included . 5 star plus 🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦. Thanks so much for video
This is a much better choice than the Tecson Q 3 recorder. It uses a more common battery and the FM radio performs much better. And this radio sounds much better.
Yes. You could plug an MP3 player into that to record or play, but a large stereo powered speaker would be better than the small one on the radio. however, Sometimes that small speaker is better than nothing.
I feel kinda dumb here.....I tried three of these and was pumped to get this because of the fact that it was a recorder as well as a player along with a radio. It sounds pretty good for its size and price. But on none of the units I tried did the Mode button work as it should have. It never went to the files It only worked for Hold when long pressed. Has anyone else had this happen,or was there something real simple I was doing wrong?
How do you direct tune? Like on an old radio you have the knob to move the needle to the next radio station? The only reason I ask is because a lot of the times radios skip over stations that come in when scanning
Just got mine.Wonding the same.I don't think you can do it manually. Wish these videos said it did not have manual tuning..which really, really sucks.I have seen so many great reviews about this radio, but this thing sucks.Cant get a single AM station.Sound is great on FM,And on SW picked up NOTHING.Going to try long wire, buuut,I don't know.I think it's junk
I purchased the Retekess V115 FM Radio from Amazon four years ago. I'm trying to access FM frequencies between 72 and 76 MHz; however, my device cannot access frequencies lower than 87 MHz. Amazon's current product page says: "FM1 64-108MHz; FM2 87-108MHz; AM 520-1710KHz (9/10K); SW 4.75-21.85MHz; In radio mode; long press "MENU" to enter the setting page; find "FM band set"; select FM1/FM2; confirm and exit." I tried to access "FM1" so as to access frequencies lower than 87 MHz; however, my device does not list an "FM band set" option on the "MENU" screen. I noticed that my "MENU" screen says "Setting-V1.4" -- not "Setting-V2.3". Anyone know if a firmware update is available to upgrade to V2.3?
Yes, page 7 of the manual: To save a radio station manually. In radio mode, long press the forward button. It will search stations. When a station is received, the search is stopped. If you want that station on your list of stations, use the number pad to enter that station and then long press the forward button to confirm the input. Repeat to enter another station that you want on your list of stations.
There is a memory function explained in the manual. You can either tune manually or use the scan. This radio has a limited number of memories (60, I think).
hello,,,Everything is fine, but how to have my wish station ? I want,in the memory not the one the radio gives me. Many times, the station is of poor quality, so I want only good quality..4 exemple...
Yes. You stick that plastic gizmo in the back of the radio so that you lay the radio down at a 45 degree angle. The slot is in the upper back of the radio. I did not cover this in my video.
I have the same radio but it wont work on battery , only with the power cord, i put a new battery still wont turn ON ...until i plug the charger cord it will work, any idea?
hi, i bought v115 a few days ago. radio is good but when I put sd card screen says WAITING... 1 seconds than screen says CAN NOT FIND DEVICE. I used 2gb and 16gb sd cards. both of them is working on laptop and on my dslr camera. What can I do? please send me a solution
I don't remember if you can format the sd card after you place the card in the radio. If you can, try formatting the sd card. If you have other SD cards, try them.
There is a delete (DEL) key that you can use to delete a recording or a preset radio channel. To find the recording, long press the "REC FILE" button, and it should come up, then use then long press the "DEL" button, and it should ask if you want to delete it... then press the "play/pause" button. Or you can connect the radio via the cable to your computer so you can access the micro-SD card... a folder named "RECORD" should show up if made any recordings... open that folder and you should be able to delete the file, like you would any other file on your computer. I think that's how it all works... I just got my radio, so I'm playing around with it. I suggest getting a PDF copy of the manual on your computer... it's easier to open the PDF search and find things on a computer. Here's the link... find and select the "V115" download... www.retekess.com/resources/download
I bought this radio in hopes I could program in my favorite stations so I could switch back and forth between them. But it doesn't seem it has this function. It also doesn't play flashdrives. So, a total waste of money for me.
Definitiv JA.
This thing is a heap of junk.Very loud internal buzzing on AM.And here is the KILLER nobody has said anything about. It DOES NOT have manual tuning. Its search and stop.Thats it.This is THE WORST radio EVER and I have been messing with shortwave for 30 years.
You can manually tune to a radio channel by keying in the number of the channel using the numbered buttons... see page 7 of the manual... you can download a PDF manual as well... I just bought and received this radio yesterday, and learning how to use it.
This is how a review should be, simple, straight and to the point

That is not true for rx only.
I bought one yesterday and it arrived today. Liked it so much I ordered another one. Arriving tomorrow.
thanks for all the info Robert. It's soooo much easier to learn by video than trying to read a manual

Do you know how to program a station to memory say 5 and save it manually?
Thanks Paul..,

FYI: they upgraded the charging port. It's now a USB-C. And they upgraded the recording quality compare to old videos. I't now 128, 160, 320...
That is good to know as the HanRongDa K-603 has 320 bit MP3 recording also! Is there manual tuning now in the Retekess V-115?

Hi! Can I listen this radio while charging or without internal battery? I need some radio working with external USB power bank. Thanks.
Как плейер-сделано отлично,как радио-сделано неважно.
I wish you were in charge of writing the manuals in the first place!😀
Hi Robert, thanks for your detail overview of this radio. A question is if you plug something in the line-in does it come through the radio speaker?
Yes.
You could plug an MP3 player into that to record or play, but a large stereo powered speaker would be better than the small one on the radio. however, Sometimes that small speaker is better than nothing.

Is there a way to set it to record a radio program at a certain time while you are away? Thanks.
Did Retekess improve the SW reception on the V-115 as well?

Is there a limit to the sd card memory you can use? Put another way what is the card with the largest memory that the radio will handle?
oh god thank you

Can you use it while charging?
Yes, you can use the radio while it is charging.
Tak, ale nie jest to zalecane, bo ładowarka będzie powodować zakłócenia
how to you put in a zero
The zero button is located below the 5 button.
Do you realise that there is a piece of protective plastic over the display screen which you can peel off to make the screen clearer ?
And scratch easily :D
I saw it yesterday but left it attached. I was afraid of the screen police.
Lo ideal que la batería fuera de mayor capacidad, lo hace frágil y una cosa sin valor
Sí, la batería tiene poca capacidad. Necesita comprar una batería de mayor capacidad si desea utilizar esta radio.
