What a lovely place to call home. And I can tell by your enthusiasm that you genuinely love it. It's got a neighbourly vibe, modern infrastructure, clean yet uncrowded.
As with most places in Greece, it is the landscape, history and people that makes the place, It is especially fab in the summer, when everything is open and the place has life. It is close enough to Athens etc. not to feel too isolated too. Thanks for watching, really appreciate it.
Nice place. I think all over the coastline around Greece / Hellas you can find similar beautiful places with a island vibe and you can easily go up to the mountains in waterfalls or in traditional villages for good and cheap food.
Hello … we will spend 15 days in Paralio Astros this August, thanks to you Thank you so much! Please, make more videos about this wonderful place, about restaurants and taverns, food and prices 🤗
I have family in Astros, I’ll be seeing them in a couple of weeks when we come from Australia. I remember Astros in 1979 when we came from Australia and Wow it’s changed. Another good video.
I dont know how i discovered this video, and discovered Astros.🙂 It is a charming and very atmospheric place! Nice buildings. The cosy harbor is fantastic. Hope to visit soon. Thank you for shearing
Tolo is busy in the summer now, I have a couple of videos on the place, and friends over there. It is definitely a different demographic to Paralio Astros, which is much more, Greek Tourists.
I have been enjoying your videos, I am a British guy living in Athens, originally from Oxfordshire and our village is in the South Peloponnese 30km north of Monemvasia
Thanks, Glad you enjoy, I am planning to revisit Monemvasia in September, have a new camera and mic so should be a big upgrade I hope! Need to do some more in Athens too, we have a small place there as well, but needs work so dont use it much.
@@GreeceExplored September is a better time to visit Monemvasia, too busy in July and August. In fact September and October is the best time to visit anywhere in Greece! Our village is a bit north of Monemvasia on the East coast, about 20km East of Molaoi. There is a fabulous beach close to our village which is my go to beach, it''s called Vlychada beach and has a canteen for the peak season, but don't shout it too loud, we're trying to keep it a secret! 😂😉
Thank you for showing us around. It’s important to be passionate in a particular area of “one’s” - my - life, and the location I live in is the greatest life area of them all. I hear the passion in your voice - it is infectious - thank you again. I am 1st gen Australian from Greek parents and I can’t wait to leave the sunburnt - meaning old-looking leathery cancerous skin - lucky country. So over-rated. Only miserable Germans English and other Northern Europeans could love this place. Only good for work and … can’t think of anything else. I’d love to meet people like yourself who have a passion for where they live that I trust would stretch into other facets of their life as a result, especially if older without that financial insecurity angst. Be you and keep finding joy, even if it kills you.
We are only here once, you have to take risks, be positive and enjoy! Personally I love Aus too, I would have lived there if it was not for age and visa restrictions....
Hello, I am so excited to find your channel! I am originally from a village called Rizes in the historic region of Tegea, but I live and work in Edinburgh. Rizes/Tegea is just 30 mins driving from Astros towards the Arcadian capital of Tripolis and you must have passed from my village as it lies on the road connecting Astros-Tripolis. Tegea had been the strongest city/state of ancient Arcadia where ancient Tegeans fought against Spartans for many times till they allied with them during the Peloponnesian war. Tegea ruins can be found in the villages of Alea and Episkopi. The Olympic flame stops by Episkopi, where you can also spot a Byzantine church built on top of an ancient theatre. I believe a visit and a video would pay off :). All the best!
Paralio Astros 🇬🇷 is a special place! We discovered it 2 years ago and now make it our summer home 😊. Some beach bars now charge for beds, so things are changing 😳
I must be local, I haven't noticed the charges, though I did notice WET has a minimum charge this summer... Times are tough for the local businesses apparently, still loads of visitors, but they spend less and want more!!! I do love the place though, and especially in the summer. It is a little dead in the winter however!
We plan to drive down to the Peloponnese this winter and spend a few month touring in our campervan - so, we love your videos showing so much of each place featured and all the info - thanx! Have you ever thought about expanding the range of content to include, food, prices, etc., something like Mick and Trudy do in Turkey...each of their vids get 10,000 to 300,000 views.
Thanks for the suggestion, I am thinking about it, I actually used to run a food factory.... My next vid is 'How to Road Trip the Peloponnese', (if I can finish it) it is proving more complicated to put together than I planned, I hope it may be useful!
We live here for part of the year as well. One of the differences between Astros and the islands is that it is still quite an authentic Greek experience without all the public drunkeness and all that goes with it. Please help us keep it that way.
Hi, I follow you and love your videos. Loving where you live. We've been to stoupa and explored the area a few times, recently we've moved on to pylos and Finikounda been there a few times, just got back. We love the pylos methoni Finikounda area. But we are looking to explore elsewhere next year. How does your town and area around compare? Keep the videos coming ❤
I love the south, Koroni etc. if you like History though my area is fab - Mycenaean history galore and fantastic coast line and towns too, a little less foreign touristy perhaps, more resorts for the Greeks due to the proximity to Athens and Tripoli. If there is anything you would like me to cover, please let me know! I need to pivot a bit more into Greek culture and lifestyle I think.
@GreeceExplored I think it would be great for us. My husband is Greek, so we like a place with more Greek tourists, really, that's why we moved on from Stoupa. What are the beaches like on the coast from your town going towards Monemvasia? Thank you
@@sarahkristo8247 They are rocky, I do keep meaning to do a video running down the coastal road to Leonidio, and there are some lovely coves down there and unknown beaches, but it is all pretty isolated and the road is hard work. If you are Greek though, the whole area is great. Paralio Astros and Tolo are really the best beaches in the area though, and hence popular.
WOW! What a lovely town. What is it like there in the winter or is it just a summer resort? Are there other expats living there? Thanks so much for sharing your hometown.
It is a summer resort, there are a few expats here, but we are all married to locals or at least Greeks I think. Nafplio is close by and there are many more there, and that is all year round.
Quiet to dead. I would have a serious look at Kalamata, outside Athens, that is where I would go for an all year life and quality retirement. Road to Athens is fantastic and quick too. I will do a retirement vid in the next couple of months, but Kalamata is my recommendation.
@@lordnelson63 Personal experience, I would not retire to an Island. They seem like a good idea, but become very isolated (difficult to travel too and from) and quiet in the winter. The only option if it has to be an Island is Crete, but for me, retirement, unless you want inconvenience in the winter has to be the mainland. Have a look also at Porto Rafti, Attica. I may well end up there in the future. though if the road had existed 15 years ago, I would have gone to kalamata at the time.
We'll be in your home town in October for 2 nights! Looking for your recommendations for your favorite restaurants, bars and sites. Maybe we'll run into each other and I can buy you a drink!

Another great and detailed story told video!!! Looking forward to spending great times when you both return 😀
Thanks Frank, and Likewise! Just got a new camera too so going to move to 4k!

That is very very kind of you - Thank You!!
Thanks for that . We are coming to the poeloponnese for 3months starting in September, with our caravan. It looks stunning.
You will have a great time touring around, best time of year too

hi ..... very nice video of Paralio Astros. I live here too. Where is your house in Paralio Astros???
I am afraid I am not telling that!
What the title saying with the first words "my home"????
@@Astrosthodoris yep I live here in Paralio Astros, but am not publishing where my house is!
You always speek so "inspirated" like a Myst...
Did you ever visit Astros Archäological museum? I was ten times there, but always closed
They keep talking about opening it, but never have as yet, need the money, I want them to open the villa of H Atticus too!
We are considering Greece as a retirement destination. How are the winters at Paralio Astros?

@GreeceExplored thanks. We are also considering one of the islands even though, as you stated, it is more expensive. Any recommendations?

you also have to consider healthcare needs etc. in the future, that means being able to get to Athens if you need, easily.
