@@dougstacks yea I suppose I was justifying in my own mind, iv been buying silver for a while and it’s crazy it’s run up high again, I’d much prefer that it slow down a bit as this kind of reminds me of about this time in 2011 it was around $75 an ounce, considering that we have had a price rise of about 45% (I’m talking food ect not wages) $75 in 2011 would be like $105 or so so now, so we are really only 50% of that now. But living and breathing in 2011 and living and breathing in 2024 it’s hard for me to sometimes think about prices in reality now to compare back then. A lot to just check myself every night again and make sure I don’t get off track although I was not buying much (thank Christ) iv been able to recover but don’t want to experience that again! Hope all that makes sense because I’m using voice to text! 👊👍

I agree, especially with the cost of living. And if we compare aud v usd the premiums seem reasonable. I am slowing down a little and mostly concentrating on date runs as a collector, however it is still a stack!!

  • @alanpecherer5705

In 1935, using US prices, silver ranged from 45 cents to 55 cents. Let's call it 50 cents average. That mercury dime weighing 2.5 grams and being 90% silver contained 2.25 gms silver which is .073 troy ounce. (Check: $1.40 face of junk silver is about an ounce, one dime is 1/14th ounce troy. 1/14 = .0714)
So, fifty cents divided by 14 is .035 cents. Thus "buying" that dime in 1935 for 10 cents was paying 3x the native silver value at the time. Based upon that math, your purchase makes sense. You might just have to wait a lot of years for it to pan out in reality.

Yesterday I reluctantly paid $255.00 on a semi-new one ounce collector coin (w/Queen Elizabeth II). I am actually getting priced out of a hobby that I started in the 1960's, would have never imagined paying such a price on a modern coin. I have actually started a new "poor mans" hobby, because that is where our government greed and corruption has placed me. I have pretty much left the numismatic hobby and yesterdays purchase may very well be my final numismatic purchase. I feel as though we are being enslaved.

@@NoHandlesRequired Absolutely we are slowly being herded and corralled so now it’s all about understanding, accepting and above all actioning. I have a feeling it won’t be long before all PM purchases will be recorded and with a cashless society we will not be able to trade so now is the time to stack as much as financially possible, once that happens then PM will be taxed indirectly as income - for me it’s now or never 👊👍

Funny thinking about supermarkets I remember Weingarten’s and the Five and Dime store in Houston when I was a kid, we used to ride our bikes around the Firestone car park - am I showing my age?? 😆 you could buy a loaf of bread for a quarter back in those days but I’m not sure what my dad’s wages were but I’m thinking it was all relevant to today, what I mean by that is say a house was 25,000 and today it’s 250,000 it was still basically the same % of you income BUT I have noticed an increasing trend over the decades is that the % is changing now a house Is 35 - 50% of income (was 24% in 1990), best way I know to circumvent this is storing $ in anything but currency no matter the country! 👍👊
