[ GENERAL INFORMATION ]
Once again, for the first time ever, we are glad to present the most complete soundtrack release from John Woo's most personal film, Bullet in the Head. This soundtrack is also released to commemorate the film's 30th Anniversary date as the film originally premiered in Hong Kong theatres on the 17th of August of 1990.
[ INFORMATION ON THE FILM SOUNDTRACK ]
The Bullet in the Head soundtrack experienced numerous changes in music due to the edits made to the film after its premiere. After analyzing the different cuts of the film we are able to point out at least 3 different versions:
- The ''Mei Ah VCD version'' soundtrack which features the most changes in music due to a different cut of the film with additional scenes being included. Some examples of this soundtrack edit include music in the scene before Jacky Cheung's character Fai / Frank borrows money for Ah Bee's / Ben's wedding (this theme is included in our album as a bonus track), a variation of the main theme which is used when the 3 friends travel to Vietnam before the military checkpoint attack scene, the vocal version of the Dandelion song used instead of a theme during the Sau Ching (played by Yolinda Yan) death scene and the short version of ''The Rescue'' track which is used during the Vietnamese prison camp rescue scene (the same track would later appear during the garage shootout between Ben and Paul near the end of the film).
- The most common version of the soundtrack which is featured in most DVD and Blu-ray releases of the film (which served as a base for our soundtrack release) and
- The ''Spanish dub version'' from the Spanish Manga Home Entertainment DVD which is based on the most common soundtrack version present in the Hong Kong Joy Sales and the UK Hong Kong Legends DVDs but with slight changes and music placements.
Aside from the aforementioned differences in the soundtrack, the film also re-uses music from Red Heat (1988) in a similar manner as it was with John Woo's The Killer / 喋血雙雄 (1989) filmed a year before and a couple of themes from Just Heroes / 義膽群英 (1989), also directed by Woo and whose music was also composed by James Wong Jim along with Romeo Diaz.
[ INFORMATION ON THIS RELEASE ]
This is the first and most complete soundtrack ever released from Bullet in the Head. Our release features only the instrumental themes which were especially composed for the film by James Wong Jim and Romeo Diaz (or believed to be composed by them until we get another valid confirmation) along with the Dandelion song included as a bonus if you download the album (even though this song was officially released, the version featured in the Yolinda Yan's album differs greatly from the one heard in the film). The rest of the music which has also appeared in the film but is not part of the score such as music cues from Red Heat (1988) and The Monkees' I'm a Believer song was omitted.

IMDB says the soundtrack of Bullet in the Head was composed by Sherman Chow?
@@torrin9566 I believe Sherman Chow served as the music editor.
I think track 2 is an alternate version of Do You Want To Know a Secret by The Beatles - around 40 seconds into the Beatles song you’ll find the same harmonies, could be wrong but they sound the same to me 👍
@@Smj1303 Wouldn't be surprised if that was the case, could be, could be 👍
This is my favourite film of all time. Been watching it at least monthly since I was 7, almost 19 years, I must have seen it a thousand times. No film makes me as emotional as this one. The soundtrack is one of the greatest accomplishments of hong kong film music.
Since your were 7 years old? Damn, it must've been tough to watch for the 1st time.
When I first whatch this movie I was about 11 or 12. It made an impression.
Im 12 and i just watched this film
This is such a good film ngl
Idk why some kids act like anything that came out before the 2000s sucks
John Woo's one of the best movie I've ever seen..🎉
18:54, The reason I came to this video. I remembered that cool theme and I searched it on UA-cam. I watched the movie more than 15 years ago but I still remember that track.
schoolhood memories.. very good representation of true friendship.
I remember that when I was playing FF7 and Cloud went amnesia after falling into river of souls, it always reminded me of the movie. The music... it's so powerful, I am tearing up when hearing it every time. Thank you so much! I had such fantastic childhood emotions!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for the kind words, enjoy! 🙏
Beautiful job, the pictures with the score are fantastic, thank you

Best movie ever made.
Best John Woo movie ever made. 😉
Beautiful work, thanks so much for uploading this!
Thank you for the kind words! Enjoy it!! 😊
This is such a great score! The theme where the helicopters started attacking the camp at 18.54 (The Rescue) is absolutely outstanding!
That's for sure! Enjoy 😊
14:32 Relatable... Because it's so horrible to see this war with ruins coming in with it.
Also it plays on "Departure from Vietnam" in an extended version.
you actually did it, thank you again!
Yup! This is one of my TOP 3 Hong Kong film soundtracks + this film is 30 years old today so I had to do it :)
What the heck, I'd just notice this today lmao. but damn... hearing these soundtracks in this great quality was almost like a magic, like other great movies from John Woo. It always having such a memorable action scenes with great (but forgotten) soundtracks.
1995 until now 2021 i love this movie

Thank you for the heart-warming words and support! :)
Surprisingly there's a lot of people who keep asking me about the soundtrack from Once a Thief lately, I don't know if I should actually release it, it's the only Chow Yun Fat film directed by John Woo which I haven't seen yet, is it that good?
Even though I'm now oriented towards soundtracks from Soviet movies, I will get back to Hong Kong cinema soon so get ready to enjoy more amazing and previously unreleased soundtracks ;)
Ok I can't wait to discover your new posts!!! 😆 and Yes " once a thief" is really à good movie from 1989 otherwise thème is also an american remake also made by john woo and which is also good but not as good as the original 😉
Look at it, it's worth the détour!!! 😆
In all this you have a lot of vids and not enough subscribers.... 😤 it's à shame... 😞
Yet you give us ost untraceable and so nostalgic..... 😉
@@dada94db Nice, I will check it out then. I started watching the film about 8 years ago but for some reason I left it in the beginning.
As for subscribers, I actually have another channel, an old one where I used to upload some early works which has a 1000 or so but I left it too because I wanted a brand new start. Now I'm planning to re-activate it again and upload the definitive soundtracks there:

Does anyone know the name of the tracks played in the times below?
11:30
12:59
23:07
23:50
26:05
They don't have any official name as they weren't released officially.
2021 still viewing
This film is an absolute classic, John Woo's finest masterpiece and I would even dare to say one of Hong Kong cinema's top films ever and forever.
Anyone know the song title for the music @ 04:39
There's no original title as the soundtrack didn't have any official release. I guess we can call it the ''Main Theme'' of the film.
hi guys I have been looking for a long time the
HEART OF DRAGON 1985 Full Ost of Jackie chan movie
the International version..
it seems that the composer is Sherman Chow or Man yee lam
I would give anything to have it made on CD publishing
Please do something to make it happen
I particularly like the way a 1979 Ford Granada Mk II time-warped to 1967
My Buddy Jake let me watch this! So glad he did! Thanks Nostalgy for posting this i was just able to finish a cover of the end theme! Yall should check it out on my channel!
lol so many edits
Thank you for your job. Can you post soundtrack of "The roar of the vietnamese"?
Maybe if it gets released on Blu-ray I could do something.
@@nostalgyvideo ok, thank you, will wait.
I hope this movie they have a full movie in here youtube
Is there a longer (full) version of the second soundtrack "The bride" ?
Unfortunately no, it only appears a couple of times and has the same length. Very sweet track.
Do you know which version of Autumn Leaves is played at the saloon scene? I can't find it!
I'm not really sure. I would say that the version heard in the film was covered by the same composers who wrote the music for the film although UA-cam recognized it as ''Autumn Leaves (Live on the Ed Sullivan Show, January 1, 1956)'' but I was unable to find it to compare if it sounds the same.
@@nostalgyvideo I just read your answer. thanks a lot!!
Would love to see what you guys can do with Wong and Diaz's JUST HEROES also. Other extraordinary HK scores: A FISHY STORY, A HERO NEVER DIES, RUNNING OUT OF TIME (some of the last two on MilkyWay CD, but only a few tracks).
Just Heroes soundtrack is work in progress. We had plans on releasing some tracks from this film this month as it has a similar styled score but we decided to wait until some company could release a DVD or Blu-ray with the right audio mix for the music extraction and isolation from the rest of the sounds.
If I'm not wrong some tracks from A Fishy Story have already been released officially by the film composer Richard Yuen in his recent CDs. As for the rest of the films that you have mentioned we can't confirm as we are mostly oriented towards 1980s - early 1990s film soundtracks.
18:55 groovy
For years I've been looking for a song from the Bullet in the Head soundtrack and its not here either! Its sung by Sally and I think its titled Thistle Down.

@NOSTALGY There is this Bullet in the Head trailer which has an awesome soundtrack. Do you think it would fit into the OST: ua-cam.com/video/74ShpxI90E0/v-deo.html
For the trailer's music, you should check one comment below where I explain why it wasn't included. Even though it's a good idea, I'm not 100% sure if it was really composed by James Wong and Romeo Diaz, perhaps it could be even part of a different film's score.
