  • You can make ones of those in 5 minutes with just a propane blow torch, piece of pipe, hammer, and a drill. If you need a bigger flame you can replace the propane orifice with a bigger one or take it out and make your own nozzle.
    Thank you for watching!

    I tested it and it also works on butane, but you have to use very tiny holes, otherways the flame will get inside the burner.

      Burning gas and handling electricity are roughly the same in practice. Just be careful and follow the basic principles of safety and you shouldn't die. 🙃

    I’m very late to the game but I’m gonna share this tip anyway. When you want to braze copper to copper, take an old bullet cartridge, just the brass. Cartridge brass makes an excellent brazing rod or brazing medium for copper to copper connections.

    Nice one again! I am not sure but for your safety and your viewers safety, i think if you remove the "screen" made of brass balls "the orifice", there is a danger of flame return. I think it is a safety to prevent explosions!

    • @makerj101
      @makerj101  9 років тому +10

      iluzyon1 Thank you for your concern! The screen you are referring to is a sintered bronze filter. In this blow torch its main job is to filter out any particles as to prevent the orifice from getting plugged up. The second job it may serve in this blow torch is as a muffler. While a sintered bronze filter can be used as a flash back arrestor, it is not the purpose it serves in a torch like this. The tank is only filled with propane. There is no oxygen in the propane tank to make a flash back possible.

    • @RinksRides
      @RinksRides 6 років тому +1

      flashback would assume that oxygen is being pulled back into the propane container (in this scenario it would need to be pure oxygen gas) to get an explosive result.

    • @3daypriest
      @3daypriest 6 років тому

      Makerj101 ... Thank you for pointing out the fact that the tank can’t explode bc of a lack of oxygen in the cylinder.

    i dont fully understand this ..but everytime ive ever seen a propane burner there was a vent on the end of the burner...btw the aforementioned burner were the old kind before they were required to have the exhaust fumes vented outside......anyone care to explain how this works im lost as i am not familiar with propane burners...

    Great video hard charger! Just one little safety tip I want to share so you can keep on rockin' the Tube with your cool videos ... You may know this, but be really careful when you light a butane torch with a plastic cigarette lighter. If the lighter is ever compromised by the torch flame you can blow off a few fingers depending on how full your lighter is. Just lookin' out my man. Peace...

    QUESTION..............If the propane tank is at such a higher pressure than the atmosphere.... then when you open the propane tank all the propane in the pipe should be trying to escape EVERY orifice. So are you saying NO propane is escaping out the space where you put the propane tank nozzle in to the pipe??????? It seems like the propane would leak from there instead of pulling in air???????????? What's the deal man? What happens if you put your lighter at that opening where the air is supposedly going in to the pipe??????? Will it catch on fire from propane leaking out there?????????????? I do not know anything about burners so keep that in mind if you answer me. This is only the 2nd video i watched but i liked it the best cause it is sooooooooo simple of a design and i am not good with building stuff

  • @jdflyback
    @jdflyback 9 років тому +1

    Could you explain please why a gas flame produces CO2 under one condition and CO under another?

    • @makerj101
      @makerj101  9 років тому

      jdflyback Copied from Wikipedia: Carbon monoxide is produced from the partial oxidation of @wiki/Carbon-containing compounds; it forms when there is not enough oxygen to produce @wiki/Carbon_dioxide (CO2), such as when operating a @wiki/Stove or an @wiki/Internal_combustion_engine in an enclosed space.

    • @dexjester
      @dexjester 6 років тому +1

      Produces co2 in combustion. Burn that co2 and it breaks down into co. Need lots of air (o2) and to vent combustion gasses away so c02 doesn't become c0.

    • @bamaslamma1003
      @bamaslamma1003 5 років тому +1

      @@dexjester CO2 does not "become" CO. CO2 and CO are both produced during combustion. CO2 is inert and stable. CO2 is nonflammable. It is often used in fire extinguishers. CO is reactive and will burn. That is what a catalytic converter on a car does. It burns the CO and makes CO2. A gas burner with the proper amount of air produces mostly CO2 and water vapor as combustion products.

  • @Harryofalltrades
    @Harryofalltrades 9 років тому +2

    Great video, but using propane inside is a bad idea. Propane is heavier than air and it never ever breaks down. It will pool in the lowest part of your house forever.

    • @Harryofalltrades
      @Harryofalltrades 9 років тому +2

      *****
      When you're burning it most does burn off. You do have a little that escapes from other parts before reaching the burners. The majority of it is going to come from between the time you open the valve to when you light it. As for RVs and trailers, they are elevated and eventually the propane will make it's out as the lowest point is still above the ground. A house on the other hand is already at ground level. It's even worse with houses that have basements. That's why in the United States full propane containers are always on the outside of the stores and gas stations. The fire code doesn't allow them to be brought inside. I imagine that the rules are the same in other parts of the world.

    • @makerj101
      @makerj101  9 років тому +1

      Harry of All Trades Thank you! Yes you are right that propane is heaver than air and will pool in the lowest parts of the house. As will natural gas, gasoline fumes, and lots of other flammable gases. However it will not stay there forever. Houses are pretty leaky and it will eventually dissipate. Plus the amount of propane gas this torch can put out is not a danger. I would need to leave the torch on without being lit for hours before it could reach a flammable level in a basement. Maybe even empty the whole bottle in a basement to get to an explosive level. Anyhow I was doing this in the garage so absolutely no danger. If this was really such a danger then why do a lot of people heat there houses, use propane water heaters, cook stoves, and use propane dryers and refrigerators?

    • @makerj101
      @makerj101  9 років тому

      ***** Yeah it does burn off. Yes people do. Plus a lot of people heat there houses with propane, use propane water heaters, cook with propane stoves, and use propane dryers and refrigerators. If there was a huge danger with using propane then no one would use it.

    • @markhorstmeier8734
      @markhorstmeier8734 8 років тому

      Natural gas is lighter than air. 0.64 specific gravity v 1.52 for propane. You are right that stray propane would naturally disperse, but there is a risk that if you were running this in a pan or enclosure, enough propane would pool and create a disconcerting pop or flare.
      Even though the myth-busters proved it was hard, there is a confirmed report from earlier this year of a deadly explosion involving a propane gas cylinder. No details on how it happened but it killed an 18 yr old and hospitalized his friend

    • @makerj101

      +Largemouth Bass (esp) You probably get a little bit no matter what you do. But it can't be much. Or people would be dying left and right from gas stoves and vent-less gas logs. So if you tune it just right I'm sure it's extremely minimal.

    Is the end of the pipe just bent over and squashed? Have you made one of these to cook with on a regular basis? Do you think a person could build their own cook stove this way? What about the build up of gas at the end of the pipe?
