I Found Where the River Pigs Were Hiding In This Swollen River!

- This session I was on the hunt for some river pigs (perch). I was using creature baits in different rigging styles to optimise my swims and catch as many as I could from right in amongst the snags. As the session went on it was necessary to get the bait right under the tree branches to find the fish. As usual we also had some menacing pike action too. Enjoy!

Happiest New Year Chris! Like most boys in the UK, the Perch was the first fish I ever caught, it must have been all of a couple of ounces and on balanced tackle of a size 14 attached to a 5lb line! My mum knew nowt about fishing the local R.Lea, so I was left to figure it out. I copied the other boys fishing beside the wall of course, and caught further perch, dace, and bleak a total of 25 'monsters' on my first solo trip as a 10-year-old! Nothing on your 'scale of coarse', but your fine film bought back happy memories of 54 years ago. More of the same please! VBW x

I pinched a measuring tip from my Grandad, paint lines 5 or 10 cm apart on your landing net... always saved carrying an extra bit of kit around to measure your fish.
I have a sneaky feeling his 5cm was not the same as everyone else's though haha.

The fox rage offset hooks are some of the best on the market, I’ve used a hell of a lot. Nice dull coating super sharp and strong. Nice to see some good perch coming out in the colder months!

What polarized glasses do you use Chris? You always seem to see the fish far further and in much cloudier water than my glasses allow me to see 2 foot in front of me in crystal clear water?

I got the same results in my local river in Kent had the savage gear jig head lure set was using a flashy colour switch to white and silver and got a little Jake straight away

Without doubt,especially on small waters like this.
This is a good question so people say so, however, I keep on returning to the same spot and general area where I caught my PB perch and never been able to catch it again or any fish in the area for that matter apart from the annoying crayfish it’s been over a year now . 😢
@@simonpe3trie102 I revisit the same/similar spots also and will usually find perch present but always wonder whether those monsters ever return. I understand that food, shelter and pressure all play their part too.

Just can’t get on with length over weight,weight for me,some fish can be longer or shorter but,but a shorter fish can weigh more...that equates to a bigger fish for me.
