I think Scar being the "pale white horse with a crooked smile" is not only very fitting but very complementive... I think 😂😅❤ But also calling Scar the "shadow of Hades" is also a big compliment ❤

Magnificent work as always Genesis, it's incredible to see how your art has grown over the 10 months since you make "where is your rider". The soft chalk brushes give the pages such a unique storybook style, and you've gotten so much better at creating compelling compositions. The transition between the two songs was also very fluid, amazing work

i love this. i love how they made scar so intimading in 2:15 even tho he has a bee on a leash infact, scar in this animatic is exellent in general, i love long hair rens look, i love the bring down the calvary part in 4:50 , i have basiclly no complaints with this, the art style is one that would be something i would perculiarly enjoy but they make it work, props to you!
Hi. I'm back once again to one of my favourite videos on this platform, genuinely. I don't know how you put so much charm and tragedy into it.. of course a lot of it is the Oh Hellos' unique christian folklorey style but you've really done something special with it. Today I'm appreciating how you've done Scar (esp at 1:40). You made him in a simple realistic way, with lots of muscle as he deserves, but it's almost like the muscle isn't what's threatening. It's the light-coloured skin, the cocky way he's grinning and his arched eyebrows, his expression is so casual and almost jovial.. and of course, the way you've drawn Ren in the next scene, with paranoia and anxiety rampant and that oh-so-good hand-drawn green rays emanating from him. I still can't describe how good it is but I'm gonna leave a comment every time I come here because I want this to get to 100k, as it deserves.. and for Rendog to see it and cry. I mean it in a good way, I promise.. I wouldn't be coming back here so much if crying to it was bad
i'm sure someone has mentioned this before, but aside from this animatic being generally beautiful i think it's really clever that the only colors used are green, yellow, and red :^)
Wow. This tells the story of Dogwarts perfectly in 7 minutes without feeling like it missed anything. The lyrics fit perfectly with the action The art is incredible. The songs are great Your art style is amazingly stylistic and emotional The way you portray Scar and Grian as these threatening villains, and Ren and Martyn as being innocent... the storytelling. This is going right with the 'Running up that hill' double life animatic and 'How far we've come' masterpieces as one of the best animatics I've seen

OOOO YES YES YES, ALL THE YES! Where is Your Rider has been my favorite 3rd Life animatic for ages now, and now THIS! Absolutely, 100%, D I V I N E. I love how Pale White Horse depicts Scar as this looming threat. The shot of him in a white void, blocked out in shadow, followed by a closer shot with one side in shadow paired with the, “pale white horse,” lyric feels SO FRICKIN OMINOUS. The fact that the, “pale white horse,” lyric likely refers to the Death horseman boosts that feeling so well. It makes Where is Your Rider referring to him as Hades (while again, almost completely blocked in shadow in a white void) feel all the more fitting. Honestly Pale White Horse bolsters the entirety of Where is Your Rider so well, it’s frickin incredible. Someone pointed out the parallel of green Ren in PWH to yellow Ren in WiYR with the, “your face isn’t quite as I remember,” and that is LIVING in my brain, I just UGH! In summary, I love this with all of my heart and soul and I with I could print it into my brain to look at it forever.
yep, the "pale white horse" is a reference to the horsemen of the apocalypse (the other three are mentioned as well: "neither plague or famine tempered my courage/nor did raids make me cower")! it feels fitting for scar because he ended up taking that role in early 3rd life as the first red name, this ominous threat and warning that one day every one of those players will lose their last lives. but of course, what is a pale white horse without his rider? grian didn't end up with much of a spotlight in the rider duology, but I think it's very easy to say that grian takes the role of the horseman himself. in WIYR, as the song asks "where is your rider?", and ren and martyn look over dogwarts (implied to be when dogwarts was occupied), the art itself answers the question. "where is your rider?" "well, he's right here." (but grian and scar aren't the only "horse and rider" on this battlefield, either - the second verse of WIYR shows that in plenty detail.) thank you for the lovely comment!!
I'll be the first to admit that a lot of it is vibes & doing what feels right/getting the general feel for it in the moment, and then only upon completion getting the big picture - while Scar was always intended to be the horse, the Grian connection wasn't something I put together until I responded to your comment!
GEN. DEAR LORD. You manage to invoke emotions in me through these animatics that I legitimately forgot I could feel. I don’t know if I’ve ever told you this but the first part of this animatic a year or so ago got me into the Oh Hellos, like MAJORLY into the Oh Hellos, and the (positive) spiral that that has happened since then is insane. Highlights include my Dear Wormwood CD being my top played CD of all time and me literally buying and learning guitar for the past 8 months because the Oh Hellos’ music makes you want to CREATE that yourself, you know? Clearly you do know, because these animatics exist and we’re here. So I wanted to thank you for that, first and foremost. Secondly, if I were one of those rich art collectors I would pay you a six-figure amount to illustrate the entirety of 3rd Life to the Dear Wormwood album, because these two have ignited something within me that burns to experience both these medias at the same time because you’ve convinced my brain that it’s just SO RIGHT in juxtaposition. So it blows my mind that I’m watching these for free. I am now off to do my duty of watching this masterpiece of a 7 minute (SEVEN MINUTES OF ANIMATIC, GEN. DAMN.) video again and again. Thank you once again, my friend, for creating an emotional masterpiece.
OUGH I'm so honored that my art made such an impact on you. I know exactly what you mean, though - Oh Hellos music makes you want to tell stories, to play along, to sing along, to make artwork! The songs themselves use allusion in such a way that it makes you want to pick them apart and understand what the musicians are trying to say and then once you Know it's like you have to turn that knowledge inside out and share it ...and on the subject of Dear Wormwood, I just recently put together a little playlist of specifically all of my videos that use songs from Dear Wormwood, because it just so happens that the only Oh Hellos music I've used has been from that album. I'm just seeing this now and I'm literally teary eyed. I'm new to the life series so I recently decided to watch 3rd Life from Ren's perspective and this animatic perfectly encapsulated the Trauma that had happened for the Renchanting army. I know this is a drama based smp but every time Scar showed up I felt more threatened by what that man was doing, and I usually love Scar in hermitcraft and other things, so I didn't know how emotional and traumatic the first season was. Your art style is so unique and cool and the chalk is so good and the music choice perfectly encapsulated the whole vibe of renchanting. Kudos to you
I KNOW RIGHT. Simply without knowing the unfolding of events, this animation had such tragic, lamenting folktale feel about it because of the music and the drawing style. I wish I could experience it for the first time again so badly. I'm so glad you've found it!
I love this so much. Even how the second video was more colored makes so much sense to the storyline as it shows how everything was starting to make so much more sense to everyone and it was becoming more clear what was unfolding, as least how I see it. Also the transitions??? This is fantastic.

this is all SO SO INCREDIBLE but a little detail I love and wanted to point out is how the banner flutters at 5:18? like the movement is so realistic and really gives the feeling of being buffeted by the wind and it's so SO good (but obviously everything is)

I've just got to say how good this animatic is, I have watched the first one so many times and it probably my favourite third life animatic and I am going to rewatch this one so much I can tell. Seriously the reason I like the oh hellos now and where is your rider specifically is almost all this animatic. This one is just as good if not better, you have only improved and it's amazing!
I wish I could go back and experience this for the first time again.. the feeling of soul-squeezing sadness and grief for something "lost" so soon after it was known to me isn't something I think will come back. Nor will the feeling of the song referring specifically to rendog.. which, by the way, I love the design of! It's simple and.. like an average guy, I guess. The little dog ears are tamer than some people draw him and fit much better imo. I know you basically just took his skin and drew him like that but, for example, the skull shape was your decision, the body type was your decision, etc. etc.. he's just an averagely fit, attractive guy with dog ears and sunglasses who gives off the feeling of innocent rise to power. Also, his little expression as Etho swipes an enchant really gives off the same vibe as the unique south african-londoner accent he has. Super well done with that! He's practically made for the fair yet very-much-a-threat king role! Obviously this current Hermitcraft version is a bit maniacal, but even here you can hear his rational kingly side slip in.. a down-to-heart yet regally imposing presence. You can tell he's confident when talking to subjects, but he'll show his uncertainty with those closer to him. Fiercely loyal. Very fair, won't go after anyone who hasn't gone after him first.. so it's a little sad to see him play the Mad King instead, but someone had to, and he has king experience! How many people can claim that! Thanks to this video i'm rewatching 3rd life through Ren's perspective and WOW. it is so much more dramatic than the other perspective i've watched (grian's), and really cemented 3rd life as one of my favourite Minecraft things alongside Last Life.

Usually I don't comment on anything on UA-cam, but this animatic is just SO special and incredible, I feel the need to do it. I started watching Martyn's POV of Third Life back in February and I loved it. Like two weeks later I found your "Where is your rider?" animatic and that's when my Dogwarts brainrot started. Thanks to you. Thanks to that animatic. I've watched it countless times, almost every day, for weeks. Your artstyle is so cool, I adore the limited color palette, it just works so well. Your composition in the frames is so!!!!!!!!!! aaaaa it's so pleasing and intriguing to look at, really catches your eye. Your designs for all the characters are so fun!! The storytelling shown in the frames is incredible, and I'll admit the final scene made me cry multiple times. The music choice is perfect! The way you incorporated the lyrics into the scenes and frames is also just!!! Amazing aaaaa!!! When I saw the notification from you in July that you were doing a continuation to that animatic I was genuinely so happy and excited! Pale White Horse works so well with Where Is Your Rider, it's just SO perfect! The transition from one to the other is seamless, and also seeing your artstyle change and the improvement was just splendid. These two have to be my favourite animatics I've ever seen. Hii I've genuinely just been looping this since the Limited Life finale dropped (wailing and sobbing) and it's still SO good. This is the essence of the Dogwarts pov of Third Life. The connection of Pale White Horse to WIYR. The explosion and then the altar. Unguided hand, where is your rider!!! He will hold with all of his might!! He will abide!! Screaming the lyrics in my head!! WHERE IS YOUR RIDER
Ok, I discovered this like 2 days ago and I've already watched it like 10 times this is just insane and by far the best life series animatic I've ever seen. And boy do I just have a lot to say about well, everything to do with this video, its a masterpiece Firstly, I love how the only colours that aren't monochrome is green, yellow and red. It took me a while to notice but boy is it such a nice touch. I also love the use of chalk in the drawings, its a completely new style of art which I've never really seen before and I honestly love it so much and how you've used it well to show light. Anyway now I have some individual frame stuff to talk about :) (Oh and btw the music choice is incredible, the lyrics match so well) 1:02 I don't know why but for some reason I love this shot of Martyn, I think its just the angle or something and the blurred background, I don't even know what he's doing but it just looks cool to me. 1:08 The use of lighting and shadows in this frame is just incredible, I also love how you drew Etho 1:15 Same with this one 1:20 Wow. This shot seems so simple, but is actually so clever. This is the first shot we see of the desert duo, and they just seem so mysterious, like some foreign visitors from a faraway land. The way which they are so small and the fact its as if someone is peering over the wall really shows how this is a turning point in the story, they are clearly important, whoever they are. The lack of lyrics adds to the mystery and this part of the song feels like a build up to something. 1:30 Martyn just looks so sick here, I also love how you used the raids lyric to sync in with an actual raid, really nice 1:39 First close up of Scar, and boy does it make him look ominous. That wicked smile is drawn so well and the red aura foreshadows the violence he will bring to Dogwarts 1:44 I love this shot, Ren looks uncertain, he knows Scar is a threat. 1:52 Skizz! I like how you made him saluting, it very much summed up his relationship with Ren, he was his loyal servant. 1:59 Snow symbolises the start of winter, but it is not red yet, very nice touch 2:10 WOW. This shot is incredible. I don't know how you made Scar with a bee look so ominous, that takes skill! His hat makes him seem so mysterious. 2:14 And then calling him a pale white horse, symbolising death and the grim reaper, SO cool and really sums up how Dogwarts saw Scar 2:20 And that smile is drawn so well and really just shows how Scar used his words to influence others. Also I don't know what's going on with all the circular lines in the background around Scar's head, but I do remember seeing them as greens lines earlier with Ren 2:29 Another great shot, Ren really looks scared here, and the green yellow red in the words nicely foreshadows his death (along with the lyrics of course). 2:33 The slow build up to the tnt is very cool, with the lyricless music and fading out shots. 2:50 Love this one! The words 'foreign war' really do show this tnt minecart is going to be the start of it all 2:59 Grian just looks so evil here and the line 'a face I'd seen before' matched perfectly with their relationship Also I love we never see the actual explosion, just how each player reacts to it, very cool 3:11 The slow build up of everyone watching is just so intense 3:22 This one made me laugh, Jimmy looks like some bad superhero trying to save everyone and the shadows of Skizz and Ren look very cool. Also are those tears on Jimmy's face? 3:27 And that final shot, and the start of the sequence of events leading up to the red winter. 4:00 Oh hoho, I love this bit, 'Your face wasn't quite as I remember' is such a good line, Ren has turned yellow, and the 'I know that wicked shape to your smile' This sounds like Martyn speaking, he thinks he knows what Ren is about to ask him to do (Also the reflection on the glasses is a nice little touch). 4:12 The burning aura of the red winter axe looks SICK, almost like it wants to kill Ren and begin the red winter. Also I like how Martyn looks very worried here, he knows the consequences and I also think he fears the rules of the server. 4:17 Boom. Its a very short frame, but so powerful, the blood spurting from his neck and also the detail of his hair being cut too is very cool. This is a big moment which no one expected. 4:21 I don't have much to say other than its epic. 4:28 Everything in this shot is so cool, the blood dripping crown, Ren's hand on Martyn's cheek as if to tell him its the right decision and I only just noticed the phantoms 4:42 Love how the trees are drawn, also I think just the shock and confusion on Martyn's face when he gets shot is very nice 4:50 Cleos eye on the moon as the zombie army rises is very cool 4:53 One of my fav shots, Joel looks so badass also I like the link between the cavalry and the dogs, although they aren't quite cavalry its still fairly similar 5:00 Wow, the sword is literally burning with blood 5:09 VERY NICE. Scar is depicted as Hades, the devil and his power is indeed beginning to fade as the red king claims more victims 5:12 I love these 2 shots of Joel and Cleo dead on the floor. The red king is surviving and thriving as he slays his enemies. Calling Joel leviathan is very cool with his dog army, he arguably was the most powerful person, but now Ren has slain him there is a big shift in power. 5:16 I can see why you used this as the thumbnail art! The blood, he flag, the crown and yet the light symbolising the possible start of better times ( Also why the hell is Martyn wearing flip flops LMAO) 5:19 The waving banner is so cool, it shows how it is a serious force to be reckoned with and also shows its importance to the red army 5:39 Oh man, this one is another great one. Ren's expression, he knows he is about to die and yet he still smiles and those loyal to him 5:43 This one is just sad, they aren't much of an army at all and they know they are about to die yet they are just happy to fight by their king once more. 5:55 Ok I'm gonna be honest, this is my favourite bit of the whole animatic. The line 'he has hoisted out of the mire every child' is perfect. Ren helped the ones who were alone with no allies, almost welcoming them as refugees into his army. I also think their expressions sum up well how they felt about joining. Skizz is like a little child excited to meet some famous celebrity. Etho just loves the banners. But BigB is clearly uncertain, he doesn't really want to get dragged along with all the violence as a green life. 6:08 And then the final deaths are just so emotional. The sad, melancholic music and the lines 'we will abide' showing each soldiers loyalty to the king. Ren and Martyn oozing with blood on the floor, its just so sad. And the fact that they were reaching out to each other but just cant touch, even the finger being raised showing he tried to. I don't usually get emotional but that gave me goosebumps. Genuinely, with all my hearts, this is one of the best videos I've ever seen on UA-cam. I hope you go far my friend, cos you have some serious talent. Well done man. :) (Fuck that really took my 50 minutes to type)

I can't believe it's taken me so long to watch this as I'm pretty sure I've watched most 3L animatics already, but I'm grateful that I can at least appreciate it way more now!! It hardly even felt like 7 minutes because I was so engaged and invested in the story you were telling along with music, you conveyed it so well!!
Been coming back to these two for years and I still think it’s such a strong use of colour and symbolism. Only using green, yellow, and red on top of black&white backgrounds as a metephor for the life system and the emotions attatched to them is just. So powerful. A scene that shows this quite a bit (imo) is the scene in Pale White Horse where Ren is surrounded by green, meant to showcase him on his green life (just a bit before he turns yellow) but the text around him is in red. There is so much you did with the text as well that hits in all the right places. Sorry for the absolute essay but I really loved the animatics and I’m trying to learn more about symbolism through colour, so big works like this with a limited colour scheme really mess with my brain (in a good way). I hope one day I can make a love letter to a piece of media I love as carefully crafted and cared about as this one.
Somehow it took me till just now to notice that the colour pallete is only red yellow and green---I've watched this animatic many times and I've only just noticed. You used those colours so well and it really works wonderfully
THIS IS INSANELY GOOD OH MY GOD!!!!! i've been really into the oh hellos' music and they DEFO hit harder when put in order.. god this pmv is just such a beautiful representation of 3rd life as a whole, the tension and release of it all, and how the tnt trap was such a turning point!!!! i love the symbolism, like how scar rlly does represent a force of death in 3rd life, and all the halo imagery is SO cool!!! cannot articulate well i am just reeling over how cool this is
Back when there was just "where is your rider", the song title made this sleep on those two part animation that is just amazing to watch. And because in betwe3n I discovered the masterpice that was the oh hellos I was able to fully appreaciate both music and animation. Saying you did an amazing work is an understatement. I more than loved this
Oh wow... wowowowowwow!!! Ive already looped the second part so many times but having the addition of the first one is amazing !!! The build up to the explosion was INTENSE and scar was genuinely so scary, your art has also improved so so much !!! I love the shots where you have someone at the centre and a 'sun' behind, like at 1:42 But my favourite shot has to be the one at 2:32 because it shows ren's anger but also powerlessness since he's almost held in Scar's hand, small and not in control, its amazing There's just such a feeling of doomed fate, it's going to finish in blood and death, no matter how many smiles and happy memories and how much loyalty they have to each other, and almost all of it because of that enchanting table - which brought them together in the first place Shout out to the drawings at 1:12 (amazing lighting, love the way you show it through scratches almost), 3:01 (grian!!!) And 3:27, theyre so well drawn ! And you draw hands very well too, just love everything about your style
I clicked this video after a Double Life animatic due to the style reminding me of Homestuck. I then noticed your username and pfp. I see. I am afraid to watch for I know it will be beautifully sad. I'm almost tempted to watch the actual series first so I can appreciate this properly. I think I just might. Hopefully I can find my comment again when I return. The soft chalk brushes give the pages such a unique storybook style, and you've gotten so much better at creating compelling compositions. i love this. i love how they made scar so intimading in 2:15 even tho he has a bee on a leash infact, scar in this animatic is exellent in general, i love long hair rens look, i love the bring down the calvary part in 4:50 , i have basiclly no complaints with this, the art style is one that would be something i would perculiarly enjoy but they make it work, props to you!

Hi. I'm back once again to one of my favourite videos on this platform, genuinely. I don't know how you put so much charm and tragedy into it.. of course a lot of it is the Oh Hellos' unique christian folklorey style but you've really done something special with it.
Today I'm appreciating how you've done Scar (esp at 1:40). You made him in a simple realistic way, with lots of muscle as he deserves, but it's almost like the muscle isn't what's threatening. It's the light-coloured skin, the cocky way he's grinning and his arched eyebrows, his expression is so casual and almost jovial.. and of course, the way you've drawn Ren in the next scene, with paranoia and anxiety rampant and that oh-so-good hand-drawn green rays emanating from him. I still can't describe how good it is but I'm gonna leave a comment every time I come here because I want this to get to 100k, as it deserves.. and for Rendog to see it and cry. I mean it in a good way, I promise.. I wouldn't be coming back here so much if crying to it was bad
i'm sure someone has mentioned this before, but aside from this animatic being generally beautiful i think it's really clever that the only colors used are green, yellow, and red :^)

OOOO YES YES YES, ALL THE YES! Where is Your Rider has been my favorite 3rd Life animatic for ages now, and now THIS! Absolutely, 100%, D I V I N E.
I love how Pale White Horse depicts Scar as this looming threat. The shot of him in a white void, blocked out in shadow, followed by a closer shot with one side in shadow paired with the, “pale white horse,” lyric feels SO FRICKIN OMINOUS. The fact that the, “pale white horse,” lyric likely refers to the Death horseman boosts that feeling so well. It makes Where is Your Rider referring to him as Hades (while again, almost completely blocked in shadow in a white void) feel all the more fitting.
Honestly Pale White Horse bolsters the entirety of Where is Your Rider so well, it’s frickin incredible. Someone pointed out the parallel of green Ren in PWH to yellow Ren in WiYR with the, “your face isn’t quite as I remember,” and that is LIVING in my brain, I just UGH!
In summary, I love this with all of my heart and soul and I with I could print it into my brain to look at it forever.
yep, the "pale white horse" is a reference to the horsemen of the apocalypse (the other three are mentioned as well: "neither plague or famine tempered my courage/nor did raids make me cower")! it feels fitting for scar because he ended up taking that role in early 3rd life as the first red name, this ominous threat and warning that one day every one of those players will lose their last lives. but of course, what is a pale white horse without his rider? grian didn't end up with much of a spotlight in the rider duology, but I think it's very easy to say that grian takes the role of the horseman himself. in WIYR, as the song asks "where is your rider?", and ren and martyn look over dogwarts (implied to be when dogwarts was occupied), the art itself answers the question. "where is your rider?" "well, he's right here." (but grian and scar aren't the only "horse and rider" on this battlefield, either - the second verse of WIYR shows that in plenty detail.)

GEN. DEAR LORD. You manage to invoke emotions in me through these animatics that I legitimately forgot I could feel.
I don’t know if I’ve ever told you this but the first part of this animatic a year or so ago got me into the Oh Hellos, like MAJORLY into the Oh Hellos, and the (positive) spiral that that has happened since then is insane. Highlights include my Dear Wormwood CD being my top played CD of all time and me literally buying and learning guitar for the past 8 months because the Oh Hellos’ music makes you want to CREATE that yourself, you know? Clearly you do know, because these animatics exist and we’re here. So I wanted to thank you for that, first and foremost.
Secondly, if I were one of those rich art collectors I would pay you a six-figure amount to illustrate the entirety of 3rd Life to the Dear Wormwood album, because these two have ignited something within me that burns to experience both these medias at the same time because you’ve convinced my brain that it’s just SO RIGHT in juxtaposition. So it blows my mind that I’m watching these for free.
I am now off to do my duty of watching this masterpiece of a 7 minute (SEVEN MINUTES OF ANIMATIC, GEN. DAMN.) video again and again. Thank you once again, my friend, for creating an emotional masterpiece.
OUGH I'm so honored that my art made such an impact on you. I know exactly what you mean, though - Oh Hellos music makes you want to tell stories, to play along, to sing along, to make artwork! The songs themselves use allusion in such a way that it makes you want to pick them apart and understand what the musicians are trying to say and then once you Know it's like you have to turn that knowledge inside out and share it
...and on the subject of Dear Wormwood, I just recently put together a little playlist of specifically all of my videos that use songs from Dear Wormwood, because it just so happens that the only Oh Hellos music I've used has been from that album. I half expect that one day I'll work my way through the full thing LOL.

I'm just seeing this now and I'm literally teary eyed. I'm new to the life series so I recently decided to watch 3rd Life from Ren's perspective and this animatic perfectly encapsulated the Trauma that had happened for the Renchanting army. I know this is a drama based smp but every time Scar showed up I felt more threatened by what that man was doing, and I usually love Scar in hermitcraft and other things, so I didn't know how emotional and traumatic the first season was. Your art style is so unique and cool and the chalk is so good and the music choice perfectly encapsulated the whole vibe of renchanting. Kudos to you

I've just got to say how good this animatic is, I have watched the first one so many times and it probably my favourite third life animatic and I am going to rewatch this one so much I can tell. Seriously the reason I like the oh hellos now and where is your rider specifically is almost all this animatic. This one is just as good if not better, you have only improved and it's amazing!

I only found this the other day and i love it so much, all i can say is you did awesome with this
I wish I could go back and experience this for the first time again.. the feeling of soul-squeezing sadness and grief for something "lost" so soon after it was known to me isn't something I think will come back. Nor will the feeling of the song referring specifically to rendog.. which, by the way, I love the design of! It's simple and.. like an average guy, I guess. The little dog ears are tamer than some people draw him and fit much better imo. I know you basically just took his skin and drew him like that but, for example, the skull shape was your decision, the body type was your decision, etc. etc.. he's just an averagely fit, attractive guy with dog ears and sunglasses who gives off the feeling of innocent rise to power. Also, his little expression as Etho swipes an enchant really gives off the same vibe as the unique south african-londoner accent he has. Super well done with that!
He's practically made for the fair yet very-much-a-threat king role! Obviously this current Hermitcraft version is a bit maniacal, but even here you can hear his rational kingly side slip in.. a down-to-heart yet regally imposing presence. You can tell he's confident when talking to subjects, but he'll show his uncertainty with those closer to him. Fiercely loyal. Very fair, won't go after anyone who hasn't gone after him first.. so it's a little sad to see him play the Mad King instead, but someone had to, and he has king experience! How many people can claim that!
Thanks to this video i'm rewatching 3rd life through Ren's perspective and WOW. it is so much more dramatic than the other perspective i've watched (grian's), and really cemented 3rd life as one of my favourite Minecraft things alongside Last Life.

I started watching Martyn's POV of Third Life back in February and I loved it. Like two weeks later I found your "Where is your rider?" animatic and that's when my Dogwarts brainrot started. Thanks to you. Thanks to that animatic. I've watched it countless times, almost every day, for weeks. Your artstyle is so cool, I adore the limited color palette, it just works so well. Your composition in the frames is so!!!!!!!!!! aaaaa it's so pleasing and intriguing to look at, really catches your eye. Your designs for all the characters are so fun!! The storytelling shown in the frames is incredible, and I'll admit the final scene made me cry multiple times. The music choice is perfect! The way you incorporated the lyrics into the scenes and frames is also just!!! Amazing aaaaa!!!
When I saw the notification from you in July that you were doing a continuation to that animatic I was genuinely so happy and excited! Pale White Horse works so well with Where Is Your Rider, it's just SO perfect! The transition from one to the other is seamless, and also seeing your artstyle change and the improvement was just splendid. These two have to be my favourite animatics I've ever seen.

And boy do I just have a lot to say about well, everything to do with this video, its a masterpiece
Firstly, I love how the only colours that aren't monochrome is green, yellow and red. It took me a while to notice but boy is it such a nice touch.
I also love the use of chalk in the drawings, its a completely new style of art which I've never really seen before and I honestly love it so much and how you've used it well to show light.

1:02 I don't know why but for some reason I love this shot of Martyn, I think its just the angle or something and the blurred background, I don't even know what he's doing but it just looks cool to me.

1:20 Wow. This shot seems so simple, but is actually so clever. This is the first shot we see of the desert duo, and they just seem so mysterious, like some foreign visitors from a faraway land. The way which they are so small and the fact its as if someone is peering over the wall really shows how this is a turning point in the story, they are clearly important, whoever they are. The lack of lyrics adds to the mystery and this part of the song feels like a build up to something.
1:30 Martyn just looks so sick here, I also love how you used the raids lyric to sync in with an actual raid, really nice
1:39 First close up of Scar, and boy does it make him look ominous. That wicked smile is drawn so well and the red aura foreshadows the violence he will bring to Dogwarts
1:44 I love this shot, Ren looks uncertain, he knows Scar is a threat.
1:52 Skizz! I like how you made him saluting, it very much summed up his relationship with Ren, he was his loyal servant.
1:59 Snow symbolises the start of winter, but it is not red yet, very nice touch
2:10 WOW. This shot is incredible. I don't know how you made Scar with a bee look so ominous, that takes skill! His hat makes him seem so mysterious.
2:14 And then calling him a pale white horse, symbolising death and the grim reaper, SO cool and really sums up how Dogwarts saw Scar
2:20 And that smile is drawn so well and really just shows how Scar used his words to influence others. Also I don't know what's going on with all the circular lines in the background around Scar's head, but I do remember seeing them as greens lines earlier with Ren
2:29 Another great shot, Ren really looks scared here, and the green yellow red in the words nicely foreshadows his death (along with the lyrics of course).
2:33 The slow build up to the tnt is very cool, with the lyricless music and fading out shots.
2:50 Love this one! The words 'foreign war' really do show this tnt minecart is going to be the start of it all
2:59 Grian just looks so evil here and the line 'a face I'd seen before' matched perfectly with their relationship
Also I love we never see the actual explosion, just how each player reacts to it, very cool
3:11 The slow build up of everyone watching is just so intense
3:22 This one made me laugh, Jimmy looks like some bad superhero trying to save everyone and the shadows of Skizz and Ren look very cool. Also are those tears on Jimmy's face?
3:27 And that final shot, and the start of the sequence of events leading up to the red winter.
4:00 Oh hoho, I love this bit, 'Your face wasn't quite as I remember' is such a good line, Ren has turned yellow, and the 'I know that wicked shape to your smile' This sounds like Martyn speaking, he thinks he knows what Ren is about to ask him to do (Also the reflection on the glasses is a nice little touch).
4:12 The burning aura of the red winter axe looks SICK, almost like it wants to kill Ren and begin the red winter. Also I like how Martyn looks very worried here, he knows the consequences and I also think he fears the rules of the server.
4:17 Boom. Its a very short frame, but so powerful, the blood spurting from his neck and also the detail of his hair being cut too is very cool. This is a big moment which no one expected.
4:21 I don't have much to say other than its epic.
4:28 Everything in this shot is so cool, the blood dripping crown, Ren's hand on Martyn's cheek as if to tell him its the right decision and I only just noticed the phantoms
4:42 Love how the trees are drawn, also I think just the shock and confusion on Martyn's face when he gets shot is very nice
4:50 Cleos eye on the moon as the zombie army rises is very cool
4:53 One of my fav shots, Joel looks so badass also I like the link between the cavalry and the dogs, although they aren't quite cavalry its still fairly similar

5:09 VERY NICE. Scar is depicted as Hades, the devil and his power is indeed beginning to fade as the red king claims more victims
5:12 I love these 2 shots of Joel and Cleo dead on the floor. The red king is surviving and thriving as he slays his enemies. Calling Joel leviathan is very cool with his dog army, he arguably was the most powerful person, but now Ren has slain him there is a big shift in power.
5:16 I can see why you used this as the thumbnail art! The blood, he flag, the crown and yet the light symbolising the possible start of better times ( Also why the hell is Martyn wearing flip flops LMAO)
5:19 The waving banner is so cool, it shows how it is a serious force to be reckoned with and also shows its importance to the red army
5:39 Oh man, this one is another great one. Ren's expression, he knows he is about to die and yet he still smiles and those loyal to him
5:43 This one is just sad, they aren't much of an army at all and they know they are about to die yet they are just happy to fight by their king once more.
5:55 Ok I'm gonna be honest, this is my favourite bit of the whole animatic. The line 'he has hoisted out of the mire every child' is perfect. Ren helped the ones who were alone with no allies, almost welcoming them as refugees into his army. I also think their expressions sum up well how they felt about joining. Skizz is like a little child excited to meet some famous celebrity. Etho just loves the banners. But BigB is clearly uncertain, he doesn't really want to get dragged along with all the violence as a green life.
6:08 And then the final deaths are just so emotional. The sad, melancholic music and the lines 'we will abide' showing each soldiers loyalty to the king. Ren and Martyn oozing with blood on the floor, its just so sad. And the fact that they were reaching out to each other but just cant touch, even the finger being raised showing he tried to. I don't usually get emotional but that gave me goosebumps.
Genuinely, with all my hearts, this is one of the best videos I've ever seen on UA-cam. I hope you go far my friend, cos you have some serious talent. Well done man.

Only using green, yellow, and red on top of black&white backgrounds as a metephor for the life system and the emotions attatched to them is just. So powerful. A scene that shows this quite a bit (imo) is the scene in Pale White Horse where Ren is surrounded by green, meant to showcase him on his green life (just a bit before he turns yellow) but the text around him is in red. There is so much you did with the text as well that hits in all the right places. Sorry for the absolute essay but I really loved the animatics and I’m trying to learn more about symbolism through colour, so big works like this with a limited colour scheme really mess with my brain (in a good way). I hope one day I can make a love letter to a piece of media I love as carefully crafted and cared about as this one.

Somehow it took me till just now to notice that the colour pallete is only red yellow and green---I've watched this animatic many times and I've only just noticed. You used those colours so well and it really works wonderfully

THIS IS INSANELY GOOD OH MY GOD!!!!! i've been really into the oh hellos' music and they DEFO hit harder when put in order.. god this pmv is just such a beautiful representation of 3rd life as a whole, the tension and release of it all, and how the tnt trap was such a turning point!!!! i love the symbolism, like how scar rlly does represent a force of death in 3rd life, and all the halo imagery is SO cool!!! cannot articulate well i am just reeling over how cool this is
Back when there was just "where is your rider", the song title made this sleep on those two part animation that is just amazing to watch. And because in betwe3n I discovered the masterpice that was the oh hellos I was able to fully appreaciate both music and animation. Saying you did an amazing work is an understatement. I more than loved this
Oh wow... wowowowowwow!!! Ive already looped the second part so many times but having the addition of the first one is amazing !!! The build up to the explosion was INTENSE and scar was genuinely so scary, your art has also improved so so much !!! I love the shots where you have someone at the centre and a 'sun' behind, like at 1:42
But my favourite shot has to be the one at 2:32 because it shows ren's anger but also powerlessness since he's almost held in Scar's hand, small and not in control, its amazing
There's just such a feeling of doomed fate, it's going to finish in blood and death, no matter how many smiles and happy memories and how much loyalty they have to each other, and almost all of it because of that enchanting table - which brought them together in the first place
Shout out to the drawings at 1:12 (amazing lighting, love the way you show it through scratches almost), 3:01 (grian!!!) And 3:27, theyre so well drawn ! And you draw hands very well too, just love everything about your style

this is one of my absoloute favorite 3rd life animatic hands down oh my goodness the pacing was so awesome and the song choice and jUST EVERYTHING about this animatic is perfection
