fun fact: lex luthor actually spent millions on a machine designed to find out superman's secret identity. when it was complete, it gave him a answer: clark kent. lex then had the machine trashed. why? because he refused to believe that superman would ever debase himself by intentionally acting like a clumsy reporter from the sticks.
so boomstick was right: people only see what they want to believe.

Well Lex's blind spot was that he was trying to figure how Superman would live in disguise by imaging how he would live, if he had Superman's powers.

i mean technically its a trilogy cus of shadow vs vegeta being canon in the episode.

One of the things a lot of people misunderstand about Goku and his "fight them at their best" attitude is that it's not *just* about his love of fighting. That's a big part, yeah, but sometimes it's because he wants his OPPONENTS to know that THEIR best is futile.
Also, the Kamehameha Wave is named after King Kamehameha, the first king of Hawaii and inventor (supposedly) of the sport of surfing.

Here are some rules Death Battle follows in case you are still curious:
1. Combatants can have no prior knowledge of each other, unless it's canon within the story. It's as if they met in a dark alley one night and now have to kill each other. So this means Goku wouldn't know about the Kryptonite and would think to use it, even if he wanted to, nor would he ever carry it, because Kryptonite doesn't exist in his franchise.
2. To ensure a fair fight, any morals about killing people are ignored. This is to ensure the fight is fair. If it wasn't a rule, a hero would never kill another hero. That's why Batman was willing to kill Spiderman.
3. The battleground is neutral. Both characters are allowed to use their arsenals without restriction, with some mild exceptions. Again, this is to keep the fight fair. So a sun would certainly come into play. Death Battle likes to do this so there are no outside influences and so they can get what they think is a clear answer of who would win. Just sort of imagine a Jedi being unable to use The Force in a fight. It doesn't exist in other franchises, but not allowing it because of that reason would be pretty restricting and not fun to watch.
4. Opponents are allowed their basic arsenals, so one-off things, like Iron Man using the Infinity Gaunlet, aren't used unless supported.
5. There is no outside help allowed, again, with mild exceptions. So Vegeta and Batman aren't coming to the rescue. Future combatants may seem like they are breaking this rule, but it's only accepted when it's part of their normal arsenal, the other combatant is given equal help, the help doesn't matter regardless, or if the help isn't fighting the combatant directly.
6. The fight animation is (mostly) made for entertainment. There are things in the research that are echoed in the fight, but it's essentially just for a fun time. Trying to pick it apart specifically for the result is rather pointless. The Kryptonite would likely never show up at all because neither really carry it. They just put it in there to demonstrate Goku's want for a good fight.
It's always the research at the end that determines the winner.
Can't wait for more! Death Battle is easily my 2nd favorite internet series and I'm so happy you guys are reacting to it!

@@titanhades4331 Not because Goku lost (well, for some). Because the research for Goku was beyond fcked. He was way underpowered. Though whether or not Superman would win is debatable, and it really depends on the situation.
"My fictional character is cooler than yours yadda!" :P But i understand this.. i was mad as well, when i first saw this.. but only because i didn't know how OP Superman was... Nowadays with Ultra Instinct and stuff..hmm could be interesting. But also hard to match out. Like Luffy vs. Goku. THAT would be interesting.
Then three years later they both got new powers and they had to do a rematch fight. This one was so debated between the fans so it makes sense for them to do every detail. Almost like the Mario vs Sonic rivalry lol.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 Yeah. I do actually think the controversy did have some part to play in the rematch as well but both Superman and Goku had achieved new forms and levels of strength since doing the first fight.

Yeah, they did the rematch, mentioned new powers on both, showed Goku's new power, while not doing the same for Supes, and he still won. The result still probably would've been Superman>Goku but they still should've shown Superman's new power. That's a little biased.

Be sure to watch superman vs Goku 2. Reason why is because there was such a huge debate about these two that they had to make a part 2 & a separate video explaining their powers so no one would bother death battle about the topic again.

the part 2 didnt address any of the points that were even laid out. goku could destroy a planet with a finger. superman could but not from distance and instantly.

Back then they didn’t know how to power scale well at all and they didn’t even bother with the second one they just wanted to make people stop bothering them but they were wrong and got those “infinite” feats out of context neither were infinite and the fact that there’s multiple levels of infinity means that just cuz you’re infinitely stronger than a 3D character doesn’t mean shit to a 4th dimensional character and so on, which both Superman and Goku are beyond an infinite 3D being as they are 4th dimensional in power if not greater depending on their versions and the arguments used for them.
Goku and Superman can beat each other it just depends on the versions of the characters being used if we are being honest.
It honestly depends which versions they want to throw in. Both of these characters have so many different versions, they grow, escalate over time, A LOT.

This is the most controversial battle ever. Definitely both sides could pull a lot of “but if you look at the latest chapter he clearly wins”. With that being said I don’t think we will ever get to know who win in a fight.

Fun story. I think the introduction of Jiren in Dragon Ball Super is a direct result of this death battle. When you get right down to it. Jiren is basically Superman. Having so much strength that it practically has no limits. Being a Superhero. And being essentially morally incorruptible.
That's kinda the thing... we do know who would win. Superman. You don't have to like him, but Superman isn't mean to be a relatable character with flaws. Superman's story isn't about progression. The concept of the character is essentially about a god with infinite power doing what's right. Goku is about overcoming your previous limits to become a stronger person. Which is why Goku is more relatable. He was meant to be flawed and was meant to overcome his limits, where Superman just doesn't have limits, and even his few flaws that would render him possible to defeat, Goku isn't going to use them. It's just not in his character, like when he destroyed the Kryptonite in the Death Battle. I don't really like either character for other reasons, so this isn't to be taken as some biased spiel. Think of it this way: You have what's basically God vs. someone that can push beyond limits. Saying anything like "Didn't superman get his ass kicked by Doomsday" is effectively the same energy as bringing up Goku getting pwned by Raditz. When looking at the characters at their primes, you'll notice that in Superman's prime, there is literally no limits, because the story wasn't meant to be about a hero overcoming impossible odds. It's about a God among men doing what's right, despite there being easier ways in evil. Which is a big part of the Injustice story. Goku is certainly one of the strongest characters ever made in Anime, but the scope of the characters in Dragonball just isn't quite at infinity, except for Zen-Oh, who chooses not to fight. Basically, Superman is on a similar power level to Zen-Oh. Superman can break reality, destroy multiverses, and wipe out the existence of all life. Superman also can't be destroyed by anything less than Kryptonite. But the point of Superman's character is that despite being able to do all these things, he does what is right for the people of Earth.
He can draw energy from all living things but the sun isn’t a living thing.
I mean I'm no science expert but during the times Goku made a spirit bomb he drew energy from nature which gets it's energy from the sun via photosynthesis but then again I'm no expert so I'm not sure

I definitely recommend the second one but the reason they did a second one is cause goku unlocked more forms and people kept asking to do it again, anyway that one and the tifa vs yang are hands down my favorites ones ever highly recommend them

Was the most controversial DB in history. I think it DB learned from (Most) of their mistakes and started to properly research the characters going foward.
I think a lot of other DBs have been researched a bit better since, aside from probably GL vs Ben 10 and Gaara vs Toph. Although I will admit there are also a lot of battles where there is a clear winner, like Goro vs Machamp and War Machine vs Genos (and of course, DP vs the Mask, but that's the entire point of that video).

@@SpenceJS87 I think it depends on the situation, but DC is known for its over powered characters, especially when it's a climactic moment. It was just the fact that the feats specifically used to gauge Goku's power were fundamentally flawed.
Operating on the dislike ratio, it was technically the 3rd most controversial. The rematch was 2nd, and Ben 10 vs Green Lantern is the 1st.

There's some good Death Battles. A lot of the recent ones have custom tracks by Brandon Yates who does a lot of versus Mashup character tracks via commission.
Gotta say some of the best are Raiden VS Wolverine, Sam VS Snake, Dante VS Bayonetta, Hulk VS Broly, and I love the Blake VS Mikasa fight for the animation and because the track is great.
Dante vs Bayonetta seems to be on everyone’s top list. We are doing the cutscenes from DMC 3 on our other channel right now and want to learn more about DMC before diving into that battle 🙂

This battle was on the internets mind for decades but no one but death battle had the guts to make this fight actually happen!
When Boomstick mentioned about if they had used a Future Goku, they'd have to use Future Superman, who is basically God is an understatement.
That version of Superman (From the Superman Prime: One Million series) depicts Superman outliving EVERY single of of his friends, families, allies and such, and takes place in the 853rd Century. As he continued to lose his allies and friends and loved ones, he grew with sadness and passed off his responsibilities to his heirs, Superman Secundus and Kal-Kent, and left Earth. He returned back in the 700th Century, he had gained an IMMENSE amount of new powers and abilities, due to him traveling across the universe AND spending 15,000 years inside the Sun (He once spent 15 minutes inside the sun, so imagine 15,000 years?) and bestowed a portion of his powers to his heirs to form the Superman Dynasty (since him passing a bit of his powers is one of his plethora of new abilities). Superman Prime is also the last known metahuman/being to ever hold a Green Lantern ring (Since once again, an indomitable Will is also one of his newest powers.) I'd recommend to take a look at those series if you want to see an stupidly OP comic book character. The list of his abilities in One Million is ridiculous.
In conclusion: Superman is that one kid's OC that can never be stopped.
I loved how you both remained calm and used logic to determine the winner. The reason you watch a reaction is because you've seen it before, it's so refreshing to see others see it differently. I was rooting for Goku btw. 😂

It’s funny that goku can actually beat superman very very easily and death battle made a mistake and I think they had to make the video again and goku won. But I think that’s because they didn’t put super in but even though SSJ 4 is stronger then god but it is what it is.

"Where are they fighting?" that isn't a factor in Death Battle. Day or night doesn't really matter either because A: Moonlight is just reflected sunlight, and B: Superman can just fly to the other side of the planet where it is daytime in mere seconds.
"If Goku was like Batman" Wouldn't matter, Death Battle doesn't allow prep time. And even then, kryptonite is not part of his standard arsenal nor of his world, so not only would Goku not have access to it, Goku would have no knowledge of its connection to Superman. And even if he did he wouldn't use it anyway because it is against Goku's character to cheat in a fight, no matter how strong the opponent is or even their moral alignment.

The Superman Is Actually more faster than Flash The Thing Is The Superman also has way more power so when The Superman Would Travel Back In Time He Can Actually Destroy The Entire Universe Of The Time Itself Ofcourse He Can Overcome That But That Risk The Superman Needs To Be Either The Most Desperate Or Out Of Character For That!
The Flash is nowhere near as strong, but also he breaks all laws of science and nature with his Speed Force, so he's way harder to pin down in a fight. Which means they're about equal in fights
The Superman And The Flash Doesn't specifically break any science laws I mean the barrier containing the time force can only be broken by The Superman's force and Darkseid's force!
@@deathtime5288 The Flash can *literally* take Superman's speed away. He literally controls the Speed Force. He can basically stop time and move through it himself. He can also think/react in .000000000000001 seconds, which infinitely faster than Supes could ever process anything. There is literally no way he'd ever be touched unless he wanted to be.

Was't really a competition. Superman is limitless while Goku has limits he keeps surpassing but still has them, just moving the bar.
Late to this party, but the kryptonite wasn’t as convenient as you say. It was there because the building destroyed was LexCorp, and Lex Luthor ALWAYS keeps Kryptonite on him (to the point that in some continuities it has given him cancer.
The kryptonite was there because the person who owns that building is a superman villain and he keeps it on him

I've noticed other people have already suggested you guys check out Dragonball Abridged by Team Four Star, so I'd like to throw another suggestion in from the same group, Hellsing Ultimate Abridged.
Only 10 episodes for the entire series, each episode was released on Halloween, so once a year. Since they were also making Dragonball Abridged at the time, you can really see their talent increase just from episode 1 to episode 2.

Alright this is a minor nitpick on Death Battle from a dragon ball nerd but Goku can definitely not use Kaio-Ken while in Super saiyan 4. It's stated that using the kaio-ken in combination with the rage-fueled Super Saiyan state is too hard to control and is very likely to result in death.
Later on in Dragon Ball Super, he is able to use Kaio-ken together with Super Saiyan Blue form because the divine energy from SSB is so relaxed, calm and controlled. But the first time he tries it he's still not sure if he'll survive the attempt.
Even at night Superman stills has his powers. It’s only if spends like a really dark place for a long while.
Yeah, this was the most controversial death battle at the time, only being surpassed by ben 10 vs green lantern, and seeing as how I'm a fan of the two that lost, it honestly sucked for two different reasons. Even then, Hal has shown multiple times that he can will himself back from erasure and dismemberment. In dragon ball sometimes when people power up the weather will change so that's where the clouds come from. The thumbnail for the rematch isn't injustice superman, it's DCEU Superman who isn't evil but just as heroic as his comic book counterpart. As far as the fight seeming one sided, yeah sure but they do a lot of death battles with characters that people have paired against and debated, one of them being Superman vs goku.

Ah yes the most infamous of the episodes, only surpassed by the second fight that took place.
They did do a great amount of research, but the thing that makes this battle so infuriating to a lot of fans is that their research method was flawed.
That they lowballed Goku or highballed Superman through the research methods they used. More prominent would be Gravity Formula they used for Goku.
I don’t really care since DC characters are insane and I like Goku more. And the animation was fun.
But I would suggest not to take what Death Battle presents as fact, because they have been wrong about other Death Battles before. And it’s just a very entertaining opinion anyways.

Except he trained on another kai or possibly higher god's planet for one, likely multiplying gravity again by 10 times already, or more. Furthermore, he had not even powered up yet, and wasn't just moving with it, but actually flying with those 40 tons in whatever x gravity effect the god-realm planet they were on was under. Which also ignores the point that power levels were actually directly said to directly measure their power in the original translation, regardless of later retcons after the fact(pretty much with the release of DB Super, which they didn't even count here).
So he's actually many, many, many times tronger than they assumed. But it still doesn't matter, because superman's feats are literal ass-pulls with basically no explanation. One of which pretty much explains that he circles around the universe 200 times in under... Was it 3 or 30 seconds? Something like that. Which puts his power levels way beyond even Goku in theory. As in, Goku's no longer even in the picture, weaker by comparison than an ant is to us. Because Superman is not based on a character progression-based story like Goku. He's the of endless ass-pulls, while Goku is the guy of endless self-improvement. One is admireable, and great story-writing material, and the other is uninteresting in my opinion. Like the ERB said "your powers have been boring since the 19-fkn-40's!"
And he also does learn some magic, like telepathy, mind reading, and the instant transmission. He just doesn't give it any serious focus until Super, where he seems to take on "god-ki", which seems to be ki mixed some sort of "divine magic." Overall, he's not talented with magic, or interested in it.
PS. Also, Goku ran most of the way on snake-road. Because flying wasted his energy too fast at that point(he was WAAAY weaker back here. Literally billions of times weaker than at his "final form"(SSJ4)).
Another youtuber guy also points out that they completely skip over the power-up of one of the transformations in this video. As in, his power is at a stand-still in terms of improvement at one time in this video. Not sure if it was an honest mistake or foul play, because if it was, it'd be pretty pointless(although they seem to do so quite often), as I've already stated - Goku still never cuts close to measuring up to pure ass-pull numbers. Because that's not his actual character.
The ground argument is pure nonsense too. Superman does the same. And it's widely accepted that they use their abilities/power to ground them to their surroundings. All the more because you can literally see the pressure from it affect their surroundings, and in some cases see the ground around a large area - Cave to that pressure. Often ending with them hovering above the ground, rather than standing on it.
I also recall that bomb being said to be powerful enough to destroy the earth 6 times over, and yet there was still no proof it'd actually kill any of the Z warriors, let alone Cell(The most powerful villain that time, that one of the cyborg intended to use it on. Someone capable destroying solar systems in one shot, and planning to destroy their galaxy in time. Before moving to the next one(proving he could outspeed light by a significant margin)). Except ppl being worried about the uncertainty of what it'd achieve. Though considering they all end up surviving examples of planetary destruction? Dubious...
The spirit bomb would be entirely dependant on how it was used/could be used, how much life/positive energy was nearby/if they'd share that energy.

I remain "Team Goku" even if the victory of Superman was clear. I like the two old movies, especially the second. "ZOOOOOD!" And the fourth vs Nuclear Man... which was beyond stupid....
But anyway... Goku's will to become stronger and stronger, to experience what is beyond that drives him forward. This realization also reached his old enemy Vegeta, who became a friend.
But once Goku also saw that his behavior is a danger to the earth and he sacrificed himself.
The funny thing about this fandom is that there are the Dragon Balls, so they can wish everything and everyone back :p To be fair.. thanks to the fans who wants Dragonball never ends, thats because it is still a thing. There were many plots in the show were it should be "the end" but the fans always cry for more.
It's fascinating. Their origin story is very very similar, but they could never work together. Goku is not a fighter for justice. He fights to break his limits and protect his friends. Superman's burden is much greater, which makes him depressive and therefore at least as "dangerous" as Goku in his own way. But Goku is just a big kid who wants to have fun and that's why I love him so much.
Funfact: There is one another opponent, that Goku never could beat. His wife Chi-Chi :p

the problem with comparing manga characters and comic characters is that comic characters are written by a bunch of different people and have a bunch of different versions so they are very inconsistent. just to give an example with superman, originally he couldn't fly, he could just jump very high, but other people misunderstood this and made him fly, people liked that so they kept the flight aspect. meanwhile manga are generally written by a single person and they have a self contained story line so the power levels and feats are more consistent and the power increases gradually.

the manga industry is quite a stressful job and many authors suffer from health problems and burn out because of this. some manga even have weekly releases so there is a lot of pressure on the authors do finish the job.
some manga authors do have assistants who help them with different aspects depending on what the author wants . for example with my favourite manga, One piece, the assistants only work on backgrounds and static objects while Oda, the author, does most of the work, but in other manga the author only draws the main characters while the assistants fill in everything else.
at the end of the day, it really depends on what the publishers and editors want to do, but to give a couple of examples:
the author of a manga called "high school of the dead" , Daisuke Satō, died at only 52 years because of a heart condition and they decided to discontinue the manga
Kentaro Miura, the author of the highly acclaimed masterpiece called "berserk" died at 54 (also because of a heart condition) and the editors and his assistants want to continue his work in his memory, however the studio hasn't made a decision yet if they will actually allow them to continue.
i don't know of any cases of a manga author quitting, because generally the manga is their creation , their passion project so most of them want to complete their vision. for example Eiichiro Oda has been working on the manga "One piece" (the most popular manga right now which recently outsold Batman comics) for over 20 years and he announced recently that it's going to take another 5 years or so to finish the story.

The Christopher Reeve version is the best. There's nothing cheesy about it. You see it represents the true nature of Superman and it will always be the pillar for The Last Son of Krypton. Henry Cavill did an amazing job as Superman/Clark Kent as those are some big shoes to fill.
FYI, the next one is not Evil Superman. It's his New 52 incarnation, which started somewhat around the early to mid 2000 due to a new generation of readers. The Entire DC Continuity was revamped and revamped once more called DC Rebirth.

the two things i dont agree with, the speed at which goku is portrayed, goku was able to move faster than light as a child and his multipliers do increase his speed. And his durability, goku has been shown to take supernova level attacks before, shit people were using planet busting attacks in the first arc of DBZ and by the last they were destroying galaxies in seconds
