Hey Nick, mahalos for putting this together. I often wondered how picking up livebait works and you helped answer my questions. Shoots! 😃🎣🤙
Definitely get a cooler and an aerator before you go if you plan to keep them live. The more you get / the bigger they are, the faster they die. Thanks Ankin
great vid nick. my local west marine sells tray bait for $7.50/tray 😭 i counted 22 vac packed bags, so by west marine pricing that's $150 in prime bait for $20, worth the effort for sure.
Thanks Ish! I've never thought about it like that. Let me know when you want to come by and pick some up
Somebody is getting the jump start on salmon season for sure! Thanks for the vid Nick.
Thx Aaron
Thanks for the info on storing bait fish! Really need to up my bait game now
Right now is a great time while the weather is bad. Thanks for watching!
Great Tip!
Thanks a lot.
Do the baitfish keep their bloody inside? I still like to crush my bait a little for scent
The salt does draw out a lot of the blood but it still works great for chumming. It basically just toughens up your bait, but other than that pretty much the same!
Awesome video!! Can't wait to do this with cigar minnows. We catch a lot on the pier. No more over priced minnows.
Use more salt than you think. Good luck!
Great tips on brine. I'm planning on investing on foodsaver for my baits since sandwich bags gives me mushy baits
Thanks for the info. This will save lots of money. Stay safe brother.
Np thanks for stopping by!
Great info Nick! Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Hi Nick
Great video. I'm new to this. Sorry for the dumb question. When you mentioned brine the anchovies, does that mean add salt and ice only? How long do you wait to take it out from cooler to vacuum seal?
Thanks
People have different brine recipes but yeah its essentially just salt & water. Let me know if that helps
Thanks Nick.
How long do you soak before taking out to vacuum seal?
@@anonymousanonymous7311 Atleast 6 hours, I normally do it overnight.
Thanks Nick
Keep them great videos coming.
Stay safe
plenty of bait for salmon season, Ron and I did the same thing after pier fishing. best way to save money and have the best bait.
Do these thaw a bit while you’re doing the vacuum sealing, or do you just try to move fast? Great vid. I’m about to do a batch of mullet and the brine seems worth the extra effort
So I am a mister lazy and cost efficient guy and don’t want to keep on paying for baits just because my shrimp and baits I freeze become mushy so this is helpful
Thanks for sharing. How much did they charge you for bait?
damn looks high class haha
Thanks for sharing Nick! I tried freezing my anchovies in freezer bags but I had a hard time keeping the perfect shape. My vacuum sealer would squeeze them to tight and the heads got kinda weird on me. I did not freeze/brine mine before. You experience this in the past? I think the brine keeps them firm so that doesn't happen? Thanks Chris
Brining them toughens them up so you can be a little more "rough" with them. The scales stay on better too. You can also refreeze your baits after a day of fishing no problem. Thanks for watching
Mahalo for sharing...awesome lesson bro...btw where is that place to pick up live bait? I saw Washington Lic Plate...
This is J & P Bait in San Francisco, California. Thanks for the comment!
Make sure you DRY your bait before vacuum sealing
Awesome video Nick, as Ish mentioned you definitely save a lot of money by brining and vacuum sealed your own bait . Quick question, for that Home Depot bucket full of baits, did you put 1/4 of the salt container or closer to 1/2 salt. I will try this next time now that I have a chest freezer in my garage 😀
It doesn't hurt to use more than you think. I actually used a whole container of salt and extra from another bottle I have. On top of that, the water that was in the cooler was salt water. Thanks for the comment Carlos
How long does the brine bait last ? Doesn't the flesh get all smooshy when it thaws ?
I've had some for over a year in the freezer totally fine still. Brining it before freezing really helps it not get mushy. The more salt the better. You can also refreeze 1-2 times after a days fishing if you don't use it
@@NickFish007 dope bro. I'm going to this when I see they are selling anchovies again. Save a ton of money.
Hey I noticed you got an AI. I have a TI. We should fish out in the bay or ocean one time. It's hard to find other kayakers who have an island.
Email me bro if you can emandch@gmail.com
I don't if you notice ish wish fish vids I make the lunker lord lures lol. And he sometimes brings them up.
Hey Nick, do you add any coloring/bluing? I noticed you didn’t do it in this video, but you had some on the bait we used.
I use Procure liquid brine. Blue and Chartreuse is my favorite. I normally use a half a bottle per bag of anchovies. They only need an hour or so to cure but overnight is better
Where should you store these? In the fridge?
Freezer
@@NickFish007 do they get mushy and fall off the hook?
@@willharvey3605 use more salt but no they won't!
Hi Nick Now that I have the kayak and note bait this freezing style should do me good. I watched how much you got. Trying to figure things out would you mind me asking how much you paid for that amount? Nice vidio thanks
20$ plus tip. Thanks David
Hey Nick couldn't see it in your description... do you have a link to the vacuum sealer do you use and do you recommend it?
Ill add it on there thanks Eric. Mine is so old they don't sell this model anymore. But It's food saver brand
How long will the sardines in the vacuumed seal bag last in a freezer?
If you brine + vacuum seal atleast a year in the freezer
its preserve for how much time?
1 year but maybe more
how much time its can store which was save for eat
1 year if you brine them first!
@@NickFish007 hi dear hope you fine you preserve live fish. can this preserved fish stored for one year really?
my experience is that if we save fish with out wash it Stomach it can not survive for long time
"This is the way" 🤣🤣🤣 sry I couldn't help myself 🤗😁🤣 this not only assures you have bait it helps local small businesses and in an emergency, you can eat the bait 🤔😁👍
Thanks for watching!
That's a lot of bait
Thanks for watching 👍
