- Jo Cox, the 41-year-old Labour Member of Parliament for Batley and Spen, died on June 16 after being stabbed and shot in the village of Birstall, West Yorkshire.
Cross-party tributes have been made to a 'rising star' in British politics, while a local man Thomas Mair, aged 52, has been arrested over the MP’s murder.
In the wake of the attack, VICE News traveled to the village of Birstall to speak with eyewitnesses and locals, and to hear the views of Prime Minister David Cameron and Opposition Leader Jeremy Corbyn.

British gun related deaths are one of the lowest on planet Earth. if that man lived in the USA, he would of had several AR's and a few handguns and without doubt it would have ended up worse. We have sensible gun laws to thank for this not resulting in more than one horrific death.

Oddities about Thomas Mair’s conviction
1. The man who walked away from the murder scene, according to CCTV cameras, had a white baseball cap and a suit jacket. When Mair was arrested, according to an amateur video, he wore a black baseball cap and a grey top.
2. No positive identification of Thomas Mair by anyone at the murder scene.
3. According to an expert in body movement, Thomas Mair’s gait (from another CCTV film) is different from the walking style of the person who walked from the scene. Mair also had slightly larger feet.
4. Amateur CCTV footage of Mair’s arrest suggests, according to an experienced firearms officer, that the police who carried this out broke all the standard procedures for arresting an armed man. It was a masterclass on how not to do it. This could suggest that they knew Mair was not actually armed.
5. The same footage showing Mair’s arrest shows his bare arms without any tattoos. Official photos of Mair released immediately afterwards show several tattoos on his right arm.
6. Mair’s immediate family and friends knew nothing of his political views. He rarely expressed any and they didn’t even know who he voted for. On social media he did not express any political views. Mair lived alone. This would make it easy to plant fake evidence.
7. Mair has a half brother who is black who says he was not racist and would not hurt a fly.
8. Two people who know Thomas Mair well said that the person in the BBC documentary purported to be him is not actually him, but a lookalike.
9. According to local NHS staff, the body of Jo Cox was taken straight down to London rather than a local hospital, breaking all legal protocol. The local Coroner was not involved.
10. The Magistrate’s hearing was held in Westminster London, not locally, again breaking all normal protocol. The main trial was also held in London, not Yorkshire, breaking all normal protocol.
11. Mair’s family was not permitted to attend either trial, against correct protocol.
12. According to witnesses, the person who appeared in court as Thomas Mair did not speak except to almost inaudibly confirm his name.
13. Artist pictures of Thomas Mair in court did not show a mole on his right cheek, which Mair actually had.
Plenty more, but enough there to suggest this may have been a set up.
Very strange how there seemed to be little grief shown at her funeral.

I was at college when the news was brought out she'd being murdered... It was a very quiet sad journey home that day... All I could think was how awful it was that I actually kind of looked up to this amazing woman and she'd being killed and for what??? Nothing literally...

The lady interviewed around 2.40 says of Thomas Mair "somebody can just walk in to a local community", and yet he was a member of that tight community, well known really and she has been told about, or seen, a stranger.

What I would like to know is why did no-one see the body? Even the jury were not shown a picture of the body. How can you have a murder trial without a body. Witnesses have said that the alleged killer was wearing a white baseball cap. Thomas Muir was wearing a black one. There’s a video of her mum and sister at a press conference. They didn’t look like they had just lost a daughter and sister. They didn’t look devastated. They were smiley and chatty. Something doesn’t add up here. He was very friendly with his neighbours. His brothers and People who had known him a long time say he wasn’t political at all. Jo Cox had rubbed shoulders with the Obamas, Blair, Ted Heath etc. If she was killed maybe it was because she knew too much - like Jill Dando. If she wasn’t and she’s still alive then it was a ploy to try to stop people voting for Brexit. It was a couple of days before the vote and I believe the polls showed that support for Brexit dropped 6 points after the alleged murder. It was also a chance to discredit the far right AKA as the decent people of the UK.
