@@smokeabaguhthat5443 youre simply wrong. There’s a reason he couldn’t stick on a team he had spurts of being a capable bench big who could score the league started to rely on shooting and defending from the position he couldn’t do either those things that’s why he’s not playing anymore. You can tell yourself otherwise if you would like. But you’re wrong. I watched him in Boston alone besides the rest of the film you can find it yourself he’s quite actually one of the worst statistical defenders ever to play

Kanter was pretty useless on the floor even when he was a very good low post scorer/rebounder.
His defensive metrics are worse than Jamil Okafor. That's saying something.

My basketball team was at the same hotel as mahmoud abdul-rauf and the Nuggets when I was 13. We were told to stay off their floor, so I immediately snuck up, hoping to bump into a player. A door opened as I passed, and it was Abdul-Rauf with a tray of half-eaten food from the previous guest. I said "wow, the hotel didn't clean it?" He said, "yeah, they just missed it." I asked "are you going to call someone?" He said, "no, I don't need to bother them. I'm just going to put it in the hall." That really showed character, and although we talked a couple minutes that's all I remember.
Just from that interaction and the vibe I got, when the controversy unfolded, I wasn't surprised that it was him that would take a principled and unorthodox stand based on his values.
Coincidently, I also talked to John Carlos a decade later, giving him my seat at a bar/restaurant.

The Stephen Curry ankle healing by Mark Jackson's congregation is low-key hilarious. But the Warriors were mad about him using his injured ankle in this story.
    From Marcus Thompson's book:
They took off his shoes and socks, anointed his ankle with oil and prayed for healing. The parishioners lifted their voices in chants and amens, calling on God to bless one of His Christian ambassadors. Service at Jackson’s church was much more passionate and engaging than Curry was used to back in Charlotte. But he humbly accepted the blessing that was being offered and returned to his seat with a smile on his face.
“Where you going?” Desiree asked the star point guard in front of the congregation. Curry responded with his go-to look of bewilderment, a half smile and widened eyes. He thought he was supposed to return back among the flock when she was done.
“You don’t get a blessing from the Lord and just walk off!” she shouted. “Show us you believe in the power of God.”
It took Curry a second to understand what she meant. Then the old Bible stories rushed to his mind. Like when Jesus healed the lame man at the Pool of Bethesda, that man had to pick up his mat and walk. If he believed he was healed, he needed to show it.
So Curry started shimmying and hopping on his right foot, much to the delight of the congregation.
“I didn’t know what else to do,” Curry said.

You ask if being forced to sell their team is a punishment since they get billions of dollars. What would be the alternative? Strip them of their personal property that they own and have invested millions or billions into over 30 years?

It wasn't that the league was conservative. It never has been, really. In the 90s, there was an extreme delineation between the game and the real world. There is still a pervasive rumor Jordan was released from the league due to his gambling becoming a big story.
It wasn't about politics. It was about trying not to fracture the fanbase. The 90s were good for the league, but they couldn't afford that level of division.
They still can't really notice how quickly the league dropped the super woke stuff after a year? It's not a coincidence.
Divisive political issues do nothing but harm businesses, especially if the business is seen to take a divisive stand.
It was more self-preservation than any kind of moral or ethical stance

Freedom of speech only prevents you from facing legal consequences for the majority of things you say or write. The first amendment however, doesn't prevent you from facing financial and/or social consequences. Everyone doing it is better than Mark. He'd be coaching if he would have kept Jesus on the bench more ...🤔✌️⛏️🏀🏆

  • @TheCriminalViolin

Enes is 100% blackballed because of how outspoken he got about autocratic nations and leaders, and not giving a damn about the NBA's profitability and bottom line. It couldn't be more blatant either. The timing lines up perfectly. Hell, he slowly got less and less time with each team once he got the ban and bounty on him from Erdogan and the Turkish government as a Turk. He had to actively avoid traveling for international trips, as well as certain games because of how active and predatory Erdogan's government is of him and others like him when it comes to "shutting them up", which is the equivalent to "disappeared" in US terms - you're "eliminated". The NBA proves this time and time again. Sure, they "allow and encourage players to speak their minds and openly express their stance on complex issues", but that doesn't mean they won't dish out consequences for doing so. You DO NOT EVER put the league's profitability at risk like that, or you WILL be banned if you do not retract statements and immediately pivot to a promotional stance from a critical one. There's many such examples, some of which you've pointed out in this very video. Profit over all else. Aka, Corporatism doing what it always has and will.

    I think Kanter's a mix of both.
By his final season in the NBA, of the 605 players in 2021-22, Freedom's metrics were:
OWS (Offensive Win Share): 0.6 (tied for 269th)
DWS (Defensive Win Share): 0.7 (tied for 297th)
OBPM (Offensive Box Plus Minus): -1.2 (tied for 276th)*
DBPM (Defensive Box Plus Minus): -0.2 (tied for 289th)*
WAR: (Wins Above Replacement Player) 0.27 (tied for 259th)*
    * - Not qualified due to playing time
And in his final fully qualified season, 2020-21 with Portland, he had a 3.24 WAR. The unfortunate situation for him is that his politics and its associated controversy aren't obfuscated by his play, he just wasn't a good enough player to justify that kind of heat. Jonathan Isaac, for example, is also known for controversial views but because he is an excellent defender and still just 26 years old, it isn't as much of a hot button issue.

Most people that got “blacklisted” in the NBA had marginal talent. There are plenty of end of the bench guys with marginal talent but once your a headache and become a distraction your not worth the headache. If your a real all star teams will gamble on you and deal with the headaches but if your not worth the headache it’s a business decision.
