  • On Friday November 1st, 1940 trumpet player Ray Anthony joined the Glenn Miller Band. Here on Ray’s first radio broadcast from the Cafe Rouge you will hear “Oh So Good”, Ray Eberle singing “Along the Santa Fe Trail” followed by Marion Hutton with “You Got Me This Way”. Next it’s Ray turn again with “Helpless”. The show continues with a slower but swinging version of “Anvil Chorus” with Maurice Purtill on the drums and a final vocal from Ray Eberle on “The Call Of The Canyon”. A classic Miller flagwaver “On Brave Old Army Team” leaves the crowd wanting more. But Glenn’s closing theme “Slumber Song” signals the end of the broadcast with some final memories from Ray Anthony (Audio courtesy of Wikipedia). Billy May will join the band on next program broadcast on November 4th, 1940 from the Cafe Rouge in the Hotel Pennsylvania in New York City.
