    I just did a P-51B from Monogram. Did it in “Red Tails” livery. I am going to have to get this simply because it has “Shangra La” in it. I wish that plane had survived. It is buried in an old pond next to where Gentry was based.

      Oh right on, I expect we'll get a profipack of the kit with Red Tail markings down the line.

    I haven't bought an Eduard kit in a long time, primarily due to prove to build ratios these days. - I'm surprised to see an extra resin kit come with the kit, if so that adds a little value. PLUS 1/48 kits are coming out with nicely detail wing attachments. Something is happening in the over all industry with mold release compounds, Eduards is not the only kits coming out with that problem. I wouldn't like to find out companies are going with third parting molding. There are also a lot of tiny detail parts, too difficult to get off the sprue that make any difference to the scale of the kit. You almost need a glove box to get them off so they don't pop off. While a great review, especially 5 minutes length, I think Eduard is dropping down the quality ladder, I've been finding a lot if higher quality kits recently. They are still number one at giving you history of the building options.

      @HammerheadModelMaking  14 днів тому +1

      I haven't noticed mold release on other kits before, I'm hoping this one is just an anomaly, but in the end, its not the worst as its fairly easy to clean up.

    Looks like a fantastic kit.....except for those Eduard decals. Not a fan of their new decals. For the price you pay for this kit gold standard Cartograph decals should be provided.

      you know, I'm warming to the Eduard Decals, my next build video is the Eduard FW190, comes out next week, and I think I finally figured out how to use them. But you're right, a set of Cartograph decals would be amazing!

    Some fine detail and some nice goodies in there!
    I agree about the resin exhaust. The kit plastic parts look fantastic.
    Use the resin exhaust on the Accurate Miniatures kit😂

    Thank you for showing the wonderful details of this great kit. Even though it's difficult, I will wait for the first Profipack boxing as I'm slowly running out of space for the double packs. Best regards...

    Ya know, the blue nose "Dallas Darling" would go well with your C-47! I also think you would do a really nice rendition of Don Gentile's "Shangri-La". Just my opinion. Hope you feel better soon.

    • @HammerheadModelMaking
      @HammerheadModelMaking  14 днів тому

      Dallas Darling is definitely on the short list, the box art poster that comes with the kit is just so good looking, the other one that is catching my eye is Big Mac, the over sprayed invasion stripes and the shark mouth are speaking to me.

    I’ve only built one Eduard kit; the F4F-4 Wildcat. I was quite impressed with the quality and engineering. You may have just convinced me to add a P-51 to my stash. You really need to do your research before starting your build though. 😉 Great review. Peace and love.

    Looking forward to seeing you build this kit and how you handle the decals. And curious which livery you’ll choose. The razorback / birdcage Mustangs are my favorite over the D’s. The D somehow looks too sporty-modern, you know? I have a Tamiya 1/48 in Don Gentile’s livery. And just this weekend, I finished a 1/72 Arma Hobby: Old Crow, Bud Anderson (who passed away during this build).

    • @HammerheadModelMaking
      @HammerheadModelMaking  14 днів тому +1

      Oh, right on! I have some Old Crow decals I might use on one of them, but I'm not sure about the other, there are so many good choices in this boxing! Definitely going to need some overtrees kits for this.

    • @SippinSoda71
      @SippinSoda71 14 днів тому

      @@HammerheadModelMaking Old Crow would be great indeed to see your take on. We usually see the Malcolm hood version, but there was also a birdcage Crow before that. The Berlin Express also looks great for a birdcage option. And being half Italian, I’m always partial to the Shangri-La … :) Hope you have lots of fun building!

    Nice review Brett! I was thinking of getting this kit,as the box is just so pristine,and the idea of two differently marked mustangs on my shelf seemed nice,however I am more of a cold war era and a bit later jet guy,so instead I decided to pick up one of Eduards new releases,in the form of the F-5 freedom tiger,and I can’t wait to build it,as it will be my first ever Eduard kit,so do you have any tips How to not screw up such a good kit?

    • @HammerheadModelMaking
      @HammerheadModelMaking  15 днів тому +1

      As I recall, the F-5 kit uses Hasegawa Plastic, so it should be pretty straight forward. Just make sure you're dry fitting your parts and keep track of which options you want in the instructions and you should be golden!

    • @KGmodels
      @KGmodels 14 днів тому

      Ok,Thanks for the tips,however I am pretty sure it is AFV Clubs plastic kit,as I recall it saying that either on the box or in the instructions,but honestly the plastic build urself looks decently easy,but it is just the coloured PE that I an scared of,as I don’t want to ruin it,but Thanks for the tips,and I hope it turns out good!

    • @HammerheadModelMaking
      @HammerheadModelMaking  14 днів тому +1

      @@KGmodels Ahh, you may be correct! But yeah, the PE can be a little intimidating, but Eduard usually does a great job getting the PE sized correctly that it should be pretty much a drop in upgrade. You got this!!

    Re slide molded gun barrels: considering the amount of cleanup blending the insert in the leading edge will require, I'd rather have plain holes in the leading edge and separate gun barrels, which I might replace with brass. I don't think Eduards current solution is the most modeller friendly choice.

    • @HammerheadModelMaking
      @HammerheadModelMaking  15 днів тому

      I wasn't aware that a lot of clean up was required around the inserts, haven't seen that on other reviews, I will be sure to pay attention to that area when I do my builds.
