I don't know the customs from people from Haiti. However I do know multiple countries eat dogs and other aniamls were call pets in the US. Why because I am a veteran who lived in Asia half of my active duty career. In countries such as South Korea, Iraq and Kuwait. Guess what most Asian countries eat dogs and so e eat cats. Many eat multiple animals we wound never consider eating g in the US. I will say this you wouldn't know if you had dog meat in your beef taco or burro or different again dishes. Matter of fact in many states we have had restaurants that served animal's shut down when the owners are from several different countries and this ain't just from Asian countries. We have many American countries North and South that have been caught with animal's that are supposed to be pets in the US or not allowed to be eaten in the US. I have heard of this in some African culters as well. So you bring them to the US and expect them to not follow a culter they have been following for generations. Some of them yes will change their culter but a good percentage won't. That's like you moving to a different country and you love pork ribs but it's illegal to eat pork in that country. How would you feel not being able to eat those pork ribs and other meals you like? Then the laws can be completely different. They need to weed out the people who they believe won't adapt to our way of life. Because it's going to be a complete culter shock for them.
I am sure the town is facing challenges with so many immigrants, but they brought live back to the local businesses. They are there on work visa, they make money and are spending them over there reviewing the town. Plus they were invited.
If some of them are going after the animals, I am sure the city has the way to stop it.
However, JDVance created the story about eating pets for political purpose pointing out immigration. In this case he lied and admitted lying during an interview.

The cat thing was a lady from Haiti got caught eating and killing the cats in the neighborhood. This was in Illinois and is a news story. I do not know however if she is or ain't and illegal immigrant. She may have her green card or even be a citizen. Could be someone wacked out on drugs. It is a true story though they did I believe to exaggerate the details. Personally that what I felt like this debate was from both sides. An ego measuring contest between two politicians that can't get admit to making any mistakes or changing their policies because they think it would help our country or lined their pockets.
