Do I have to mortar the top of the window or can I make it tight to the wood plate and caulk that joint?

Is it possible to install these in a wood wall without using mortar?
Is there some sort of frame I can buy or frame kit that would allow installation with shims, backer rod, and caulk instead of mortar?

It's too bad nobody answers these. I have the same project to do. Not all buildings are brick. Most are wood :/

@@Ballen1182 I saw a video where someone did a DIY version where they used PVC boards that were the depth of the wall and glued them to the prefab window to make a frame. It was interior and he nailed up pieces of wood on the opposite side of where he was putting the window in to keep it from falling through. Not sure how that would work for exterior if you already have siding and don't want to damage it-- although, I suppose you could load it from the outside and use wood blocks on the inside to keep it from falling through, but I want it almost flush with the outside, not the inside.

@@Ballen1182 I forgot to mention that the person who made the frame used the tracks that are used when building the glass block windows for an installation and he screwed those to the PVC frame and then glued the glass block window inside those tracks and then screwed the frame together. I need to find the name/link to that video again. You can use the tracks for installing the window into an existing frame (without building one) but you have to cut the top and side tracks in half so that you can slide the glass block window in (after setting it in the bottom track. Might even have to cut all 4 actually depending on how much room you have to maneuver. Tracks keep it from falling forward too much and then you secure the other halfs of the tracks behind.

RGF Industries: I need to install one of your REDI2SET vent windows in my entry DOOR, except that the width of my door is ~2 inches, and the width of your vent is ~3 inches. I know that your vent is designed for glass blocks. Can you possibly manufacture a 24 x 8 inch vent that can be installed in my DOOR? You already make a 24 x 8 inch size vent for glass block. This could be a million dollar idea. It is ridiculous that I am unable to find such a vent in the entire planet! Why are they made only for glass block windows and not DOORS? I need a door window vent that can be opened and closed, and that has an insect screen. There is a need for such vents to be installed on exterior doors!!! Please get the idea out there asap, and start manufacturing them to sell the product. Such vents would be ideal in hot hot weather, and for use in spaces, such as enclosed porches and entryways. They are more secure than leaving a window open for ventilation of ordinary home spaces above the basement level. Thank you. I'm sure you will be thanking me if you use this idea, and I'm sure you will profit from it.

Buy a different sized glass block window. They make them in all sort of shapes and sizes. Otherwise, I've seen other videos where they expand the size of the window opening as needed to fit.
