One of the few good things I got from my dad..he played this album repeatedly before he left my mom... I'm a man I break the rules, and I turn unconcerned, walk away ..and my boy..was a constant.. Richard Harris I still love, not so much the Cosby comedy albums he listened to also
The whole "My Boy" LP ends up being very sad -- at least from a male perspective. I so identify with the singer's infatuation with a girl who he is too shy to confront (but eventually does), marries her, seems like the merriest man on earth, then everything goes sour. He feels as if everything is lost but not (perhaps) his young son. It's a story that has been repeated throughout the ages. We all begin with such high hopes, such adoration, then everything falls apart, and if there are any children, well, they are the ones that will suffer. I think women will connect to this series of songs less than men. The singer (Harris, of course) doesn't exhibit a lot of regret. This is how I have lived my life. Well, okay, but living your life without regret doesn't necessarily lead you to a very good or comfortable place. Well, the entire track of songs was never meant to spell out a single story. If they tell a story at all, it's quite accidental.
His voice was, and is, just the most beautiful voice in the world. I love all his songs. Thank goodness for cd's and thank you for sharing this.
I still listen to Richard Harris.
I am 68 and have been listening since I was 17. He is still a magical presence in my life.
What fine tones in that voice. 'The Yard Went On Forever" still stops me.
