U-Matic tape containing footage of Mayor Coleman A. Young's appearance on March 30, 1989 at Saint Martin de Porres High School to honor their championship football team, the Eagles, followed by footage from another event of Young handing out awards for the winner of the 1988 No More Devil's Night contest.
The tape opens with footage of opens with shots of the students of Saint Martin de Porres seated before the event. The camera then turns to the door where Coleman A. Young enters the room to applause, then works his way to the stage.
On stage, Principal Hughes introduces Young. Young then takes to the podium and recognizes Bishop Anderson, Coach Ron Thompson, and Father Jim. He also praises the recent success of the girls' basketball team, and reads the names of each member. Young continues to speak, praising the school's high graduation percentage. He then reads a proclamation saluting the school's students for their academic and athletic accomplishments.
Coach Thompson briefly takes the podium to accept the award, and jokes that he'll see Young again next year after their seventh victory.
Principal Hughes then calls first the football players, then the cheerleaders to the stage one by one, where Young shakes their hands presents them with a t-shirt. With the team behind him, Young then returns to the podium to announce the availability of two scholarships for the school's graduates from the Coleman Young Scholarship Foundation and the American National Gas Company.
In a brief silent shot, the football players and cheerleaders then pose on stage with their shirts, the resolution, and Mayor Young.
The sound then returns to the recording for a shot of the school's Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps performing a rifle exhibition drill in the school's hallway. Mayor Young then appears, and they perform another routine for him. This portion of the recording ends after an extended shot of Young walking through the school's halls.
The next section on the tape begins in the middle of the award ceremony for the 1988 No More Devil's Night contest. Young stands behind a podium with a "Civic Center" sign where he shakes hands and presents an award to each winning child, as they are called up. The recording briefly cuts then resumes even later in the ceremony.
The video is on a 3M UCA-60 U-Matic tape with a handwritten 3M label on its top. The tape is housed within a latching black plastic case with a matching label on its cover.
