Question about thermaling. While you are in the thermal, do you use your outside brake only for corrections or do you constantly hold some brake(not just to keep feeling in the wing but conscious brake to slow you down) to improve your vertical speed ?
Thanks for the question. I have light brake pressure on the outside brake while thermaling to feel the wing and to be ready for a fast reaction if the pressure decreases. But I don't brake the outside to make it slower. With the modern wings the sink rate is not getting better if you apply to much brake. Some pilots use only the rear riser on the outside while thermaling but that feels strange to me, so I prefer a light tension on the break.
