    I got a Hoffman Condor and it's a complete bike with sealed hubs and cromoly and double wall rims and 8 spline cranks for 300 and I've replaced everything but the frame and I've cracked the frame and got rewelded ... I'm still ridding the frame it's going strong and I've 180 down a 6 stair and jumped down a 10 stair , it works perfectly and that's a bike I would recommend to any beginner and it will last them a year or 2 depending on how hard a rider they are

    This video has been helpful, I am researching and shopping to buy a new bike for my son...it will be his first "real" bike of the 20" size and BMX style.
    A few we have narrowed it down to, are Elite Destro, DK Cygnus, and a couple others. He is 13, and 5'3" ...I doubt he ever tops 5'8"... of the bikes on our short list, a couple are 20.5" TT, and at least one is onlt a 20" top tube... what can u tell me about that, and also, if you could tell me what u think might be better between the Destro and Cygnus, or any others you think we should also consider in the $300-400 range, that would be most appreciated. Take care mister, amd thanks for the video...

    question: when you start comparing bike 1,2,3 n 4 how do you know what parts are better than other parts...? I'm not implying a companies parts are good or bad, just in your opinion, what's the easiest way to potentially avoid a weaker and more prone to breakage brand/parts?
    example: mission, salt, odyssey, or the companies name(ex: Fit).
    fyi: no 48 spline cranks to be found.
    For a 400 to 500 price range, you tend to notice each bike is trimmed off on different area's of the bike.
    most common is double wall rim in the back n single wall rim in the front.
    mix of sealed and non-sealed hubs.
    crossbreed of 4130 chromo with Hi-Ten w/ Integrated HT, Cromo DT and DO

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  5 років тому +1

      Thats a reallllly good question. Im going to have to make a video about this one.
      Mission, Salt, and Rant are all lower grade parts companies owned by larger companies.
      In general the big brand names are better and most parts from them will be better than the lower tiers.
      You're pretty safe with names like Odyssey, Sunday, Shadow, Subrosa, Fit, WeThePeople, Demolition, Profile...the list really could go on but its all of the bigger named companies.

    A good video, although IMO "warranty" should be a factor too. Because if you buy used, even if it's a great custom bike, most likely you have no warranty. With a new bike, if all the receipts etc are kept, you've got warranty to cover you as a safe guard

    I got a sweet deal on a bmx bike at performance bike; a new se hoodrich for $175 normally $439. What if you can’t score a deal? Are there any decent big box/ Walmart bikes out there?

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  6 років тому +1

      I would say that unless its 100% the only option, people should stay away from buying a bike at a big box store if they're planning on learning to ride and sticking with it for any decent amount of time.
      The problems that will quickly arise are preventable by trying to come up with just a little more money and getting something better.
      Mongoose does make a pretty legit complete bike, but its also up there in the price range of other legit bikes.
      If strapped for cash entirely, a used bike on craigslist or the facebook marketplace is the best bet for getting something that will last and be safe for bmx.

      Wow MTB's are way too difficult. haha
      Yea in talking with a few people before making this one, they said that the first thing people have trouble with are the rims.
      Single walled rims usually bend and need attention before unsealed hubs start to go.

    Sealed hubs over chromoly....there is something wrong in the industry if that's a legit concern. Hubs should be quality enough even unsealed, but it seems these days that's not so. In the old days, non-chromoly parts wasn't even a serious consideration.

    • @Brant_Moore
