We'll definitely keep working. We all have a lot of work to do lol. And you're right about all the techniques. Good eye, and knowledgeable too.
That's so good to hear. I'm glad you joined. Enjoy it and take your time with the kyu's. I'm glad you settled on Ninpo. I had the same feeling when I found it.
Hey Rob and company, this is Brian Hodges AL Fudoshin Dojo-Cho. I really like your video and I see Gary Kyoshi has been nurturing your development very nicely. Looks like alot of fun at the demo and hard practice. See you at the next Tai Kai. Your brother in Genbukan, Brian.
I don't know a great deal about Genbukan, but it would be good to see more of this kind of spirit in the Bujinkan..
Indeed. I totally agree. Much respect for Bujinkan.
@Arteanor Thanks for watching and for the comment. Don't worry about it. This isn't a debate. This is art. Enjoy it.
Thanks for your comment. Yes, it can be very aggresive. But it doesn't always have to be that way. Our goal that day was definitely to show it's aggresive side. And I enjoyed it very much. We can't use any of our techniques in competitions because its overkill and irresponsible. Can't even be considered. So it was kinda nice to do the demo and show off a little, lol.
that seems to be a common thread in other martial atrtists i have met who have entered the Genbukan,welcome to the family ! if you get a chance to attend one of the up-coming Tai Kai's take it ,it is a rare opportunity to train with Soke that should not be missed
And the song is called 'Maudam and Escape' from the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack. Everything before 58seconds is part of that song too.
The video was hard to make. I had to chop up the song too. It's all mixed up and probably twice as long as the actual song is. And then matching it to movements....so much fun though. This was my first. I think it flows ok. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Maybe I'll do more.
it's a big pleasure to see this video
@maceioninjutsu - So true my friend. We really do emphasize the traditional katas. Tradition is very important to Tanemura Soke, and so, it is important to the rest of us. :) Over the years, I've come to see the value in it, and I'm proud to keep the traditions alive as they were a thousand years ago by true warriors. I do agree through, I've always loved what the Bujinkan does. I have alot of respect for them. Thanks for the comment!
you guy demonstrated a good application of the techniques.
excelente video y la musica esta genial continuen poniendo videos asi los felicito
Great stuff guys, keep up the spirit. Your kotegash and arm-bar reversals are like nothing i've seen before. One small point I notice most guys landing on their knee with their back roll. It's not so bad on the matt, on the street it could take quite a bit of fight out of you. I found that adding a little thrusting kick with the leg that's about to land clears the knee and lets me land with the foot first. Ous!!!
exelente video ojala subueran mas video de genbukan asi
who could dislike this? i love this!
I'm glad to hear it!
You guys where great. Two things that you Genbukan guys do that I dislike is you'll seem to stick to the kata, whereas us Bujinkan guys are more into the "henka"and being able to move freely, and u guys are real traditional incomparison to us. However great job Arigato for the video.
Love the counters!
Nice enbu and a good representation for the Genbukan well.
I have to agree that the the maai seems a bit odd. This could be because of the forced perspective of the camera lens. The black Anthony is skilled in Taihenjutsu. I can assure the detractors of these methods that they are both relevant and necessary. Many of the techniques if carried to their full extent can dislocate joints or permanently maim a person. Acrobatics are sometimes the only escape left to someone in this position.Good job!
These guys have really good form
That's the understanding I have as well. I heard Soke left to preserve the tradition of Ninpo and we ARE very strict with tradition.
Well, you know what they say, "you usually don't have to go anywhere to find what it is you're looking for". That's what I've heard, anyway. :)
I started in Bujinkan and I know what you mean. But I feel now that I could have had that before. It was really up to me. I'm glad I left Bujinkan....but I didn't have to.
Nice video. Although the distance seems weird sometimes, esp. in the bokken techniques.
The tall guy with his back flips is funny. for a show. I think it's unrealistic for a real situation. but I know - in a show you have to entertain the crowd! Well done!
Thanks! I hope you practice again.
I know the feeling, but it's nice to have martial arts that don't need to show off on competitions isn't it? it says much about the fighting style,that's why i like ninjutsu jeje
I'm from Bujinkan though D=
Such an awesome video, thnx 4 the upload. Lookz like i'll be joining in Genbukan soon :P. Is there much difference with Bujinkan?
It's good to hear from you. I did just go to the Tai Kai in Canada for Kotoh Ryu Koppo-Jutsu. It was excellent. Did you go to that?
I like the way you guys move! good job. I have been a member of the bujinkan since 2005 and now Im about to go to the Genbukan not because I wanted to but my sensei stopped teaching and their isnt anymore Bujinkan schools in Chicago. Do you guys feel I might be going backwards?
@xMercuryx56 So do we! I'm happy you enjoyed this. Do you train?
@brownsound1 Sounds good
2 things: Incredible video, it certainly is aggressive.... but it's nice somehow, kind'a feel this was a showoff since it was a demonstration anyways jeje, really nice
next... any chance you could tell me the name of the song that begins at about sec. 58?
o, maybe a third point, very nicely made as a video, it went well with the song
this is so awsome how long does it take to learn this?
Where exactly is this school? I live in Columbia MD. Do you know Scott Teague? He has a school in Olney MD and I think he is part of the Genbukan. We used to train together in a school that no longer exists in Columbia MD that was associated with the Bujinkan.
@weloveyoudimebag
"you know who wasn't above drilling kata? hundreds of years of ninja."
uh, seems you are falling into some of the ideas that ninja weren't already soldiers in an army....
"They wrote it down for a reason, because it was important."
NAME ONE SOURCE for a NINJUTSU MARTIAL ART RECORD!!!
""never be wrong" because you're making it up as you go"
congratulations, you just figured out why takamatsu was accepted by hatsumi.
Thanks for the comment. Do you train?
@wasabi107 Everyone is different really. Some take 3 years, some take 6 or more even. I hope you're still training.
Because Ima Shidoshi and i will start as a mu kyu in the bujinkan not that its a big deal but Im like learning eveyrthing over while Im in the Genbukan Ima start my own ninjutsu organization its going to be mixed w elements from both bujinkan and genbukan I wonder how would that work?
It's not that Genbukan doesn't adapt to modern styles or that Bujinkan has thrown tradition out the window. Genbukan is definitely more strict with tradition than Bujinkan is but has definitely adapted to modern styles. And Bujinkan was very spiritual when I was with them and definitely paid proper respects to tradition. Genbukan is more strict based on my (limited) observations. Of course, alot has to be said about who you train with and the mentality of the student. Just gain the knowledge.
some politics and a lot of watering down in both, not just the buj
@myrddinhawk
hopefully it takes them a while
@myrddinhawk yes, i do. but not anymore :(
@myrddinhawk
to be honest, i am glad that the genbukan has not been quite so infiltrated by the poser ninjer wannabe,...
you do justice to Takamatsu's curriculum.
like i said though...
my only beef is people calling it ninjutsu, ninpo, or pretending the ninja thing from takamatsu was anything more than a marketing ploy based off of some things he may or may not have found in the kuki archive...
either way, the ninja thing needs to die out. in a real bad way...
takamatsu's creation's enough
i wouldnt say backwards, id say youre expanding your knowledge. Give it a try see what they have to offer.
this is real good guys. you should check out my trianing vids too. i wear real samurai armor and do archery and horseback and water training. etc. check out my newest vid and vid 107 for horseback and stuff. take care and great vid
You guys should try not going back in a straight line when someone repeatedly punches you....and the ukes should try to actually punch their partner rather than stop a few inches from where the head is ._. Also, use less muscle. sheesh. and for jodan uke, the point is to be grounded, not skipping all over the goddamn place. and when you throw, the point isnt to knock them so damn hard with your hips they fly over, its to take the balance and let them throw themselves. omigawd
@myrddinhawk
hey man, hate to rain on your parade... but "I'm proud to keep the traditions alive as they were a thousand years ago by true warriors." it comes across that you believe the schools you are being taught are a thousand years old... this is proven to not be the case since we can clearly see from the historical record that there IS no martial art component to ninjutsu..
its funny tho, takamatsu told hatsumi and tanemura the taijutsu was KUKISHIN NINPO, BEFORE HE MADE UP TOGAKURE
some politics and a lot of westernisation in the bujinkan
